CHAPTER 149: CHAPTER 149: SKY LANTERN

After this day, Ethan Lloyd never returned home again, and Melanie Lloyd was stopped by security at the company, saying it was a direct order from President Lloyd not to allow her back in.

Melanie Lloyd blocked Ethan Lloyd several days in a row at the company’s entrance.

"Ethan, Melanie is still waiting downstairs. You’re not going back today, are you?" Avril just came upstairs from the lobby and sat on Ethan Lloyd’s lap, asking.

Ethan Lloyd wrapped his arms around Avril’s waist and buried his face in her shoulder: "Of course I’m not going back. How could she ever compare to you, Vicky?"

"Oh, you’re so annoying." Avril lightly punched his shoulder, her face flushed with shyness.

"Ethan, staying in hotels all the time isn’t good. There’s no one to take care of you. Why don’t you move into my place? I can take care of you." After a bit of flirting, Avril suddenly suggested.

Ethan Lloyd thought for a while and agreed. After work that day, he sat in Avril’s car and went to her house.

However, when it happens frequently enough, others are bound to notice. Having planted a person at Lloyd Group before, Seraphina Sinclair received the news.

"Ethan Lloyd is still the same. After work today, if he leaves in Avril’s car again, take a few photos for me." Seraphina Sinclair sneered coldly and then said.

Now, come to think of it, Melanie didn’t know whether to laugh or pity herself; perhaps she should have expected this when she cheated with Ethan Lloyd behind her back.

If Ethan Lloyd can abandon his wife today to have an affair, he could abandon her with someone else after they marry tomorrow.

Ultimately, it’s just her own fault.

But, if she could help fan the flames and watch them tear each other apart like wolves, it would be another situation entirely.

A few days later, Seraphina Sinclair received a pile of photos, all of Ethan Lloyd in Avril’s car, even including some explicit images.

Seraphina Sinclair felt disgusted even looking at it, and found an opportunity to sell them to Melanie Lloyd. As for how Melanie Lloyd reacted after getting the photos, it didn’t concern Seraphina.

Today is New Year’s Day, and Jude Sinclair’s kindergarten is holding a New Year’s performance. Seraphina Sinclair had agreed the morning to go with him to school.

"Mommy, when is Daddy coming home?" Jude Sinclair always worried about Desmond Fairchild still being away.

"He should be back in the next few days. Am I not enough to make you happy?" Seeing Jude’s worried face, Seraphina Sinclair teased with a jealous expression.

"No way. Having you here is the best," Jude cooed.

Because of her busy work schedule and having Desmond Fairchild pick up Jude, Seraphina Sinclair rarely showed up at the kindergarten.

On top of that, Jude’s class had a new teacher, so she decided to say hello to the teacher and stayed in the office for over half an hour. When the performance ended, it was already around 6 PM.

Just as mother and son left through the kindergarten gates, Jude became excited: "Mommy, look, it’s Daddy!"

Seraphina Sinclair looked up and saw Desmond Fairchild standing not far away, involuntarily smiling.

"Didn’t you say you’d be back in a few days? How come you’re here today?" When Desmond Fairchild walked over, Seraphina Sinclair immediately asked.

"I got everything sorted out, so I came back a day early," Desmond Fairchild said while taking Jude’s small backpack from her.

Once in the car, Desmond Fairchild nudged Jude to the passenger seat, while he and Seraphina Sinclair sat in the backseat. Out of Jude’s sight, they held hands.

"Behave, okay? You’re getting more out of line," Seraphina Sinclair reddened, giving him a glare.

"Ace, head to The Crimson Pavilion." Desmond Fairchild put Jude’s backpack aside and said, while not letting go of Seraphina Sinclair’s hand.

"You haven’t missed me at all these days we haven’t seen each other?" Once the car started, Desmond Fairchild leaned closer and spoke softly.

"You were only gone for a few days. Is that ’many days’ to you?" Seraphina Sinclair shot him a glance.

But no matter what, when Desmond Fairchild is around, her heart inexplicably calms, and Seraphina Sinclair inched closer, resting her head on his shoulder, lightly closing her eyes.

Once Desmond Fairchild took them out for dinner, it was already 9 PM. Just stepping out of the restaurant, Seraphina Sinclair happily noticed it was snowing.

"It’s snowing. It’s the first snow of the year!" Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t help but extend her hand to catch a snowflake, watching it melt into a droplet in her palm.

"Mommy, look! People are releasing Sky Lanterns." Jude excitedly pointed to the lanterns drifting up to the sky, tugging Seraphina’s clothes.

"It seems to be coming from the square. Desmond Fairchild, let’s go light Sky Lanterns too. I heard you can make wishes when lighting Sky Lanterns, and during the first snow, you can make wishes. Combining these two wish-making times may increase the odds of the wishes coming true," Seraphina Sinclair said excitedly.

Desmond Fairchild naturally wouldn’t refuse her request, so the family of three headed to the square, where they found many couples lighting Sky Lanterns.

Seraphina Sinclair eagerly bought three Sky Lanterns, but then faced a dilemma.

"I’ve never lit a Sky Lantern before. How does this thing work?" she asked, somewhat bewildered, staring at them.

"Mommy, don’t look at me. How would I know when I’m just a few years old?" Jude shook his head.

Finally, mother and son turned their heads, looking to Desmond Fairchild for help.

Desmond Fairchild, the domineering CEO, who had never lit a Sky Lantern: "..." Don’t look at me, don’t count on me, I don’t know anything!

The family of three stood there staring at each other for a while. Desmond Fairchild pulled out his phone, turning to Quentin Jennings for help, who replied with a string of: "Hahaha, you, the omnipotent Desmond Fairchild, are stumped today!"

After taking a screenshot to share on social media, Quentin calmly explained how to light a Sky Lantern.

After successfully launching one, the remaining two became much easier. All in all, three Sky Lanterns successfully soared into the sky.

"Quick, make a wish, or once the Sky Lanterns disappear it’ll be too late," Seraphina Sinclair urged, clasping her palms at her chest and silently closing her eyes.

"Mommy is so childish, aren’t they, Daddy?" Jude remarked, watching Desmond Fairchild gaze intently at Seraphina.

His dark eyes, filled with tenderness, seemed to completely ignore Jude’s comment.

Jude: "..." Clutching himself, trembling, with the chill of unwelcome dog food tossed randomly.

Despite averting his eyes, his body honestly mimicked Seraphina’s action, obediently closing his eyes to make a wish.

The snow fell heavier, and the shimmering orange Sky Lanterns rose higher, carrying the wishes bestowed upon them, slowly disappearing into the night sky.
