CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: DIVINE ASSIST

Seeing him looking in his direction, Jude Sinclair was caught in the act but showed no fear; instead, he openly smiled.

Sure enough, experience comes with age, Great-grandma’s trick is amazing!

Now that Dad is back, his job is done, and it’s up to the two of them to spend time together.

He quietly stepped back two steps and kindly closed the half-open door.

Desmond Fairchild’s eyes showed a hint of amusement, "No need, I checked when I came back, no one was there. That rascal Jude just put on a show because he saw you were unhappy..."

As for why he did that, it wasn’t hard to guess. Seraphina Sinclair’s tense nerves relaxed a bit, feeling quite helpless. She looked up and suddenly noticed how intimate their positions were.

She was enveloped in Desmond’s embrace, so close that if she moved a bit further, she could kiss his chin.

Noticing her discomfort, the man pulled back slightly and paused, saying, "Sorry."

"About last time, it was my fault." He looked into her eyes, their gazes meeting. "I shouldn’t have investigated you without asking your opinion."

He spoke straightforwardly, his demeanor honest and sincere.

He was the first to bow his head to her, but compared to such matters, Jude made him realize that losing her over a squabble would be more terrifying.

Seraphina Sinclair was momentarily stunned, not expecting Desmond to do this, and lightly bit her lip, lowering her voice, "Actually, I was also at fault. I shouldn’t have said such harsh words. That’s not what I wanted to say, sorry."

At that time, she was overwhelmed with anger, blurting out words without considering their consequences.

By the time she calmed down, it was already too late.

Now...

She blinked, the gloom accumulated disappearing as they talked, and she said lightly, "Since we’ve cleared things up, can you leave now?"

The man’s body stiffened imperceptibly, his gaze landing on her silk pajamas, his eyes darkening and his expression gradually turning languid.

He didn’t want to leave; he wanted to stay.

He had drunk quite a bit at the old house just now, and now, with warmth in his arms and his mind affected by alcohol, Desmond Fairchild felt more reckless than usual.

In Seraphina’s surprised gaze, he naturally lay down on the bed, "Not leaving, what if a thief shows up at night? I need to protect you."

Seraphina Sinclair: "..."

Is this reason serious?

She disagreed, her tone emphasizing, "Desmond Fairchild!"

The man turned over, pretending not to hear, clearly showing his determination, and Seraphina lightly sighed.

Since he wouldn’t leave, she could, couldn’t she?

She got out of bed sideways and headed straight out the door. She raised her hand to turn the doorknob, but the door wouldn’t budge.

Somehow, it was locked from outside, and there was no one else who could do it except Jude.

The brat really went all the way with his good deed. Desmond’s lips curled slightly; Seraphina certainly gave him a great son, so clever, truly remarkable.

She bit her lip, finally turning over and lying down on the other side of the bed. Seriously, she said to Desmond, "You can sleep here tonight, but don’t do anything inappropriate, or the consequences will be severe."

"Okay." The voice responded close to her ear, and Desmond took advantage and hugged her, his breathing steadying.

"You..." Seraphina wanted to free his hand.

"I’ll just hug you for a while. I drank a lot today and feel dizzy. If you push me, I really might not know what I’ll do," Desmond’s voice was deeper than usual, making Seraphina stiffen.

Seeing him quiet down, her anxious heart settled, sleepiness enveloped her, she closed her eyes, and had a dreamless night.

When Seraphina woke up the next day, the space beside her was cold, already losing its warmth.

It seemed Desmond had been up for a while.

Her eyelids lowered, feeling somewhat empty inside, she nonchalantly washed up, got up, and prepared breakfast.

In the living room, Desmond hadn’t left early, and Seraphina glanced at him faintly, seemingly finding nothing unusual compared to before.

But in the end, there were subtle signs.

Jude noticed Seraphina’s eyes flash with light when she saw Desmond hadn’t left, and his cheeks puffed with food as his mischievous eyes darted between the two, his eyes turning. He said brightly, "Dad, I’m full, take me to school."

After receiving permission, he picked up his backpack and dashed out the door.

Once thoroughly outside the house, Jude lifted his little head and cleared his throat, "Dad, about last night’s event, what reward do you plan to give me?"

He and Great-grandma had put quite a bit of effort into scheming this plan.

His eyes sparkled with expectation, those eyes resembling Seraphina’s.

Desmond curled his lips and suddenly knocked on his little head, "You want a reward for scheming against me?"

"Why can’t I get one?" Jude replied clearly, "You lost your judgment because you care. Otherwise, how could you not notice my little tricks? If it weren’t for me, who knows how long you’d have cold war until speaking honestly, let alone last night in Mom’s room, didn’t it have an effect?"

"Yes." Desmond acknowledged his claim, his brows slightly raised, meeting his eager gaze, he said, "How’s your learning at the base?"

Seeming to anticipate what would happen next, Jude’s heart pounded, the light in his eyes brighter.

Sure enough, in the next instant, the man slowly continued, "So, do you want to go, and try some real practice?"

"Yes." Almost as soon as he spoke, Jude eagerly answered, "I want to go!"

Desmond looked at his son, a slight smile forming on his lips, and then pulled out his phone to dial a number.

"Go wait for me at the base."

The other end agreed, Desmond smoothly hung up the call, and then looked at Jude, lowering his voice, "Are you ready?"

Jude didn’t know who Desmond was calling, but at least he understood what he was about to face.

Since Desmond transferred him from kindergarten to the secret base, he’s been learning various special skills, yet had never truly encountered real combat. This curiosity made him even more fascinated by these things.

He took a deep breath, giving a determined reply with his gaze.

Seeing this, Desmond stopped asking further, withdrew his gaze, and as he started the car he said, "Fasten your seatbelt."

They returned to the base location, winding around for about five minutes before Desmond led Jude to stop before a tightly closed iron door. Desmond pressed the button on the right-hand side, and after registering his fingerprint, the iron door gave off a screeching sound as it slowly opened.

Heading inside, Desmond pushed open one of the doors. The room was spacious, with no exercise equipment, no place to rest, only a tall, muscular, unsmiling man standing in the center.
