CHAPTER 85: CHAPTER 85: THE ENEMY WHO KILLED MY FATHER

She didn’t know why, but looking at Austin White’s cautious eyes, she always felt uncomfortable in her heart.

Perhaps Desmond Fairchild had already, invisibly, become a "one of her own" in Seraphina Sinclair’s mind.

Upon hearing Seraphina Sinclair’s words, Austin White couldn’t help but look a bit surprised.

Does it seem like Godmother is serious this time? She usually wouldn’t simply define someone as one of her own.

But he didn’t regret his decision, after all, this matter was of great importance to Seraphina Sinclair.

Austin White raised a smile, curled his lips, and spoke in a tone as if acting coquettishly, "Alright, Godmother, I’ll be more careful next time, okay? I called you here today because I have something important to discuss with you."

As soon as he finished speaking, Austin White immediately pulled out a folded piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Seraphina Sinclair.

Looking at the paper Austin White handed over, Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t help but feel curious and immediately reached out to grab it.

When she unfolded the paper and saw the writing on it, her face instantly changed dramatically.

The paper Austin White handed over actually contained records of Ethan Lloyd bribing some board members back in the day, as well as his records of going in and out of the hospital to purchase medications.

"Godmother, since I came to Bayside City, I’ve been investigating your father’s past. It was just yesterday that I finally found a clue."

Initially, Austin White focused on investigating within the company and did not delve too deeply into the cause of Mr. Sinclair’s death.

Until yesterday, he discovered in the network of a board member that Ethan Lloyd had been secretly contacting that this member’s wife was the hospital director. Suddenly, everything became clear.

It turned out that about six months before Mr. Sinclair’s death, Ethan Lloyd had already tampered with some of Mr. Sinclair’s health products by adding drugs with slow-acting suicidal effects in them.

Seraphina Sinclair carefully read every line on the paper, clenching her fists tightly, crumpling the paper until it was almost destroyed.

She had thought Ethan Lloyd’s actions back then were outrageous enough, but she hadn’t expected that the man had planned to harm her father so early on!

"Godmother? Are you okay?" Austin White, seeing Seraphina Sinclair’s body trembling uncontrollably, couldn’t help but worry and tentatively asked.

Austin White had been conflicted about whether to tell Seraphina Sinclair the truth. His greatest fear was that she would be blinded by hatred and take some actions that weren’t worth it.

"I’m fine, don’t worry." Soon, Seraphina Sinclair responded to Austin White in a deep voice, the tone icy cold.

Following that, she looked up at Austin White, forcing a smile on her lips, though her eyes were hollow and lifeless.

Since Austin White informed Seraphina Sinclair about Mr. Sinclair’s matter, her attitude had been off. She even locked herself in her room for an entire afternoon, unresponsive to Austin White’s attempts to get her out.

"Keep investigating, dig up any dirt on the Lloyd Family, no matter how insignificant!" Austin White dialed a number, his demeanor just as cheerful and optimistic as usual before Seraphina Sinclair, but now his dark eyes were filled with rage, sending chills down one’s spine.

When Desmond Fairchild came back, he saw Austin White pacing back and forth in the living room, evidently agitated, raising some suspicion.

But thinking of their unfamiliar relationship, Desmond Fairchild didn’t pay much mind, initially planning to go upstairs without greeting him.

However, seeing Desmond Fairchild return, Austin White looked at him like a savior and quickly approached.

"Desmond Fairchild."

"What is it?"

Faced with Austin White, Desmond Fairchild indeed had no good feelings, his tone flat and nonchalant.

He was curious about Austin White being an adult, having an age gap with Seraphina Sinclair yet not to the extent of a mother-son relationship.

That’s why Desmond Fairchild was even more curious about what experiences Seraphina Sinclair had gone through abroad.

Despite his anxiety, Austin White was a composed person, carefully choosing his words while speaking with Desmond Fairchild.

"My Godmother is not in a good mood and locked herself in her room. No matter how I tried persuading, she wouldn’t come out. Could you go see her? Considering Desmond Fairchild’s different status, maybe she would listen to him a little more."

Austin White only mentioned Seraphina Sinclair’s mood but didn’t bring up the events of the past year.

Desmond Fairchild, being astute, knew that Austin White didn’t want to discuss it and didn’t force the issue.

"I understand." After saying that simply, Desmond Fairchild spoke no further and headed upstairs on his own.

Austin White felt a bit uncomfortable seeing his cold demeanor.

Forget it, Godmother’s emotions are more important, he thought generously, nodding to himself.

Meanwhile, after Desmond Fairchild went upstairs, he went straight to Seraphina Sinclair’s room, knocking a few times but receiving no response.

Fortunately, Desmond Fairchild was prepared in advance, immediately taking a key from his pocket and unlocking the door before him.

At this moment, Seraphina Sinclair was barefoot, sitting outside on the small balcony, staring blankly into the distance. Perhaps hearing the sound at the door, she turned to look towards it.

Her watery eyes were shattered, lacking the brilliance they once held, now resembling stagnant water, hollow, vast, and as if the entire world was being rejected.

Desmond Fairchild’s heart suddenly ached.

Seraphina Sinclair regained her senses, noticing Desmond Fairchild standing motionless at the door, her emotions complex, her eyes carrying scrutiny: "How did you get in?"

"Don’t misunderstand. This key was left with me during the renovations a few days ago. I just forgot to return it to you."

Her intense vigilance always made Desmond Fairchild feel something was amiss, so he explained the key’s origin immediately.

Seraphina Sinclair said nothing more, instead turning her eyes away, hugging her legs as she sat on the balcony watching the distance.

Seeing this, Desmond Fairchild assumed Seraphina Sinclair silently permitted his entrance. He first closed the room door behind them and then walked through the French door to her side.

"What’s wrong?" Desmond Fairchild looked at Seraphina Sinclair’s swollen eyes and knew that she had cried.

Although Seraphina Sinclair heard Desmond Fairchild speak, she remained silent, continuing to look outside on her own.

The sun had already set, and the outdoor temperature was constantly dropping. Seeing her in just a pair of casual shorts gave Desmond Fairchild a chill just looking at her.

After waiting for a while with no response from Seraphina Sinclair, Desmond Fairchild directly bent over and lifted her from the ground, carrying her sideways.

"What are you doing? Put me down now!"

Seraphina Sinclair obviously hadn’t expected Desmond Fairchild’s actions, shocked she quickly patted his back, trying to make him let her go.

Unfortunately, the man disregarded her attempts.

Desmond Fairchild directly threw Seraphina Sinclair onto the bed, then covered her legs with a quilt. Initially resisting, she eventually let him do as he wished, like a broken doll resigning to the world.

"I can understand if you’re feeling down, but please take care of yourself. Don’t forget Jude Sinclair still needs your care to grow up!"
