CHAPTER 93: CHAPTER 93: SEDATIVE

Despite the fact that Austin, using just his own strength, rescued Seraphina Sinclair that day, the opposition was numerous, and Austin was slightly injured.

Therefore, Seraphina couldn’t understand why Austin would run outside without regard for his injuries, claiming something important needed his attention.

"Mommy must be missing Second Brother, right? I’ll call him right now and get him back."

When it comes to understanding Seraphina, Jude Sinclair was evidently better than Desmond Fairchild. Knowing she was worried about Austin, Jude immediately ran to the landline and dialed the all-too-familiar phone number.

In truth, these days, Austin was also struggling inside over whether to return or not.

Though he didn’t particularly want to see that gloomy face, Austin was worried and unaware of his godmother’s condition.

After sobering up from drinking, Irene Rowe was no longer at home; she had prepared breakfast for him and left a note stating that she had gone to work.

Austin felt apologetic for troubling Irene Rowe the previous night, so he went to the supermarket to buy some fruit and daily supplies, leaving them at Irene Rowe’s door.

Afterward, Austin seemed to evaporate from the world, losing contact in Bayside City.

Even when Irene saw the fruit upon returning home and sent Austin a thank-you note via WeChat, he did not respond.

During these days, Austin was buried in the hotel, focusing intensely on attacking the electronic information network of the continent.

His aggressive methods put his subordinates on high alert, constantly worried that any neglect would result in severe consequences.

Only when he saw the call coming from Seraphina Sinclair’s house did Austin finally soften and answer the phone.

"Second Brother, where have you been these days? Mommy woke up and couldn’t find you; she’s very worried. Please come back soon," Jude quickly started telling him the whole story as soon as the call connected.

Upon hearing Jude’s words, Austin grew tense and immediately responded, "Alright, let Mommy know, I’m coming back right away."

"That’s enough. Take a break," After hanging up the call, Austin’s tone became icy, addressing the people on the other end of the computer.

The people on the other end didn’t seem to understand right away, "Shadow? What do you mean?"

"Don’t understand? Want to keep going?" Austin impatiently questioned.

"Understood, understood! Thank you, Shadow." The person on the other end immediately felt relieved, almost wanting to kneel down and thank Seraphina, their savior, for ending the relentless three-day non-stop information attack; it was unbearable for anyone, and their nerves were almost shredded!

After Jude hung up the phone, Desmond Fairchild and Seraphina Sinclair persuaded him to return to his room for rest.

In an instant, only Seraphina and Desmond were left in the spacious room.

Initially, neither of them spoke, until Seraphina felt the atmosphere was off and opened her mouth to express gratitude, "Thank you for taking care of me during this time."

Although the two had been together for quite some time, since learning about Desmond Fairchild’s identity, Seraphina felt a sense of apprehension, speaking with more caution.

Looking at Seraphina’s calm demeanor on the bed, Desmond felt a pang of heartache, with many questions brewing inside him.

Nevertheless, given Seraphina’s current physical condition, he feared she couldn’t handle further distress; revisiting the past would only be an additional blow, hence the questions troubling Desmond had to be swallowed down.

Yet some things, Desmond felt he needed to clarify with Seraphina ahead of time.

"Whatever happened in your past, I don’t care. But I hope you understand that as my wife, you can try anything, even if you fail, I’ll catch you. You don’t have to worry about anything."

Desmond did not want Seraphina to be haunted by a past riddled with nightmares; her sorrow and melancholy over past events was something he couldn’t accept.

"Desmond, I understand what you mean, but can you not bring this topic up right now?"

As soon as Desmond’s words landed, Seraphina bit her lip tightly, her hands clawing at her hair, showing signs of distress.

Desmond didn’t expect Seraphina to have such a strong reaction to mere words, startling him into grabbing her hand, "Seraphina? Calm down!"

"Stay away from my godmother!"

During Seraphina’s emotional turmoil, Austin arrived at the doorway and witnessed her painful expression unfold.

As soon as Austin spoke, he quickly charged at Desmond, pushing him away.

"Godmother, are you alright?" Austin deftly pulled a bottle of medicine from his pocket and placed a pill into Seraphina’s mouth.

Next, he picked up the cup on the table and helped Seraphina take a sip, allowing her emotions to gradually settle.

Soon after, Seraphina’s gaze turned vacant, and she quickly collapsed onto the bed, drifting into sleep.

"What did you give her?" Desmond, noticing Austin’s practiced movements, naturally realized this was not the first time, growing more anxious with a heavier tone.

Austin responded, looking directly into Desmond’s eyes without fear, "Mr. Fairchild, I think we need to talk."

Given that Seraphina and Desmond planned to be together, Austin felt it was time Desmond learned some things; otherwise, Seraphina might still suffer in the future.

Normally indifferent or opposed, Austin’s formal demeanor at this moment compelled Desmond to take it seriously.

Nodding, not refusing, they went down to the living room.

"What exactly did you give her just now?"

"Nothing, just a tranquilizer," Austin sighed.

Having witnessed Seraphina’s situation countless times, especially when she first came to Diamond Island, her condition was extremely poor.

In efforts to treat Seraphina, the three brothers from the White Family sought numerous renowned physicians, yet ultimately emotional hurt requires emotional healing, thus the problem was for Seraphina to solve herself.

Hence they later brought her to Bayside City, hoping she could slowly heal by resolving past matters.

However, given that Seraphina hadn’t relied on medication in recent times, just when they thought things were fine, she suddenly relapsed, causing concern.

"Desmond, even though I hold no fondness towards you, since my godmother has chosen you, some things need clarifying."

Austin initiated the conversation seeing Desmond remain silent.

After a pause, Austin continued, "Regarding the privacy concerning my godmother, I have no authority to elaborate, yet since you intend to care for her in the future, it’s imperative for you to know she suffered from depression for years, only showing slight improvement before returning to the country."

Upon hearing this, Desmond’s brows furrowed deeply—depression?!

Seraphina, always cheerful, sometimes whimsical like a child, appeared to merely react to a shock; he presumed her abrupt emotional response was due to a brief trauma, yet had it all been her façade?

"So Desmond, if you truly want to be with my godmother, I hope you can be mindful of her feelings and avoid what happened just now."

Initially, Austin wasn’t planning on sharing this; the scene he witnessed earlier made him feel for Seraphina intensely.

"I understand."

After an uncertain length of time, Desmond suddenly spoke, his dark pupils dimming.

"OK, that’s all I have to say. Godmother will likely wake up later, I’m heading upstairs for a rest."
