CHAPTER 386: CHAPTER 359: SHARING A BED
Su Jingchen enjoyed the tender care Yu Xiaolian lavished upon him, her hands roaming all over, until he grasped the restless little hand on his chest and sighed helplessly, "It’s the arm that’s injured!"
Yu Xiaolian felt slightly embarrassed; she merely intended to check if Su Jingchen’s ribs were injured, but her hand drifted from chest to stomach, then to the ribs—it felt too good, she couldn’t quite control herself.
"Hehe..." Yu Xiaolian laughed awkwardly, "You have abs!"
"Hmm?" What’s abs?
Yu Xiaolian poked Su Jingchen’s belly with another hand, "It means there’s no excess fat here."
Su Jingchen understood suddenly. He certainly didn’t want to end up like his father’s round, chubby figure.
"Do you like... my abs?" In the darkness, Su Jingchen blushed.
Yu Xiaolian nodded enthusiastically, "I do!" Who wouldn’t like abs?
Though if muscles are overly exaggerated like those big guys at her police station, she tends to keep her distance.
She just preferred someone like Su Jingchen, who appears slender in clothes but has some flesh when unclothed.
Su Jingchen lowered his head, whispering, "Then after we get married, you can touch them to your heart’s content!"
Yu Xiaolian giggled secretly, "Of course, you’re mine; I’ll touch whenever I want!"
When they arrived at the inn in town, it was already past eight o’clock at night; Yu Xiaolian booked a top room and ordered two bowls of beef noodles.
As soon as they entered the room, Yu Xiaolian started to take Su Jingchen’s clothes off.
Su Jingchen held Yu Xiaolian’s bold little hand, "Behave!"
Yu Xiaolian hastily explained, "I don’t want to take advantage of you; I just want to see your injuries."
Su Jingchen sighed lightly, "I know, but I’ve promised Uncle Yu to maintain propriety, so I can’t show you my wounds."
His entire body ached; he was sure there were plenty of bruises. If he showed them all to Yu Xiaolian, wouldn’t he be exposing himself completely?
"You’re injured, what’s this propriety you’re keeping? I need to see where you’re hurt to apply medicine," Yu Xiaolian said, producing red flower oil and Yunnan Baiyao from space.
Su Jingchen, helpless, had to lie, "It’s just my left arm that hurts, it might be fractured; otherwise, I’m fine!"
Upon hearing it was a fractured arm, Yu Xiaolian became anxious; her medicine couldn’t heal broken bones, "I’ll get a doctor for you!"
Su Jingchen grabbed Yu Xiaolian, "No need for a doctor. I’ve already set it myself; it just needs some time to heal!"
"That’s not okay. You’re not a doctor; you don’t get to decide!" As Yu Xiaolian spoke, the waiter arrived with their beef noodles, and she tossed him a five-tael silver piece, asking him to fetch a doctor.
The waiter had intended to say that at such a late hour, where would he find a doctor, but seeing it was a five-tael silver piece, he cheerfully ran out to fetch one.
Five taels, that’s half a year’s salary for him. He would drag a doctor out of bed if need be.
As Yu Xiaolian and Su Jingchen finished their beef noodles, the waiter returned with the doctor.
The doctor, placing his medicine chest down, didn’t complain but promptly went over to check Su Jingchen’s injuries.
"Why is your body so wounded, and all of them external injuries? Did you accidentally roll down a hillside?" the doctor asked while examining Su Jingchen’s wounds.
Su Jingchen nodded, "Went hunting in the mountains and accidentally slipped."
"Looking at your attire, you don’t seem like a hunter, which family’s young master are you? Often it’s you delicate ones who get hurt seriously whereas hunters are tough," said the doctor, who had heard from the waiter that the injured was someone wealthy, now curious about Su Jingchen’s background for his own gossip at home.
"My arm’s not seriously injured, right?" Su Jingchen didn’t follow up on the doctor’s probing.
"How could it not be serious? Your arm is the worst injury on your body," the doctor grumbled angrily.
Su Jingchen remained silent.
He knew, otherwise he wouldn’t have focused on just his arm.
The doctor applied ointment to Su Jingchen’s other injuries, using bamboo to brace the arm, working meticulously for over an hour before finishing.
After settling the bill and sending the doctor off, Yu Xiaolian entered the room to find Su Jingchen covered with a blanket, lying on the bed.
The doctor had applied medicine to his scrapes; he was almost completely unclothed now.
Seeing Yu Xiaolian come in, Su Jingchen felt somewhat awkward.
Before Yu Xiaolian could approach, Su Jingchen said, "You should book another room; this place reeks of medicine."
Yu Xiaolian pulled over a chair, sitting by Su Jingchen’s bed, "Don’t be shy; don’t ignore the sick, if you’re uncomfortable, just tell me. If you feel itchy, I’ll scratch for you; if you want to drink water, I’ll pour it. Don’t be polite; I’m not going anywhere tonight, I’ll be right here; call for me if you need anything!"
Su Jingchen chuckled, "I can walk and lie down, you didn’t sleep at all last night. Go book a room for proper rest, don’t worry about me!"
Yu Xiaolian shook her head, "No way. You’re injured, wearing a brace, how can I sleep soundly?"
Saying this, Yu Xiaolian lay down beside Su Jingchen’s bed, emphasizing again, "Call for me if you need anything!"
Then, shortly thereafter, Su Jingchen heard the steady breathing of Yu Xiaolian as she slept.
Su Jingchen got up, dressed in his pants, and gently moved Yu Xiaolian inside the bed, himself clothed and lying at the edge.
Uncle Yu, I did my best; tonight shouldn’t count as me being disrespectful, right?
Yu Xiaolian and Su Jingchen both hadn’t slept for two days and nights, so they slept particularly soundly.
When Yu Xiaolian woke up, she found one of her legs draped over Su Jingchen and an arm on his chest. She withdrew them timidly, seeing Su Jingchen still asleep, she sighed in relief.
Yu Xiaolian had slept deeply, her dreams mixed and hectic; she dreamt she hadn’t escaped the Witch Clan, couldn’t distinguish which Su Jingchen was real or fake, and dreamt Su Jingchen was bitten to death by the Gu Worms, crying sorrowfully.
Yu Xiaolian reached out and pulled the blanket over Su Jingchen, feeling a slight sense of guilt that she had hogged most of it yesterday, leaving Su Jingchen half exposed. She had vowed to look after the patient, yet had slept like a log.
As soon as Yu Xiaolian adjusted the blanket for Su Jingchen, Su Jingchen slowly opened his eyes; he hadn’t slept well at all last night.
Initially, he was too excited about sharing a bed with Yu Xiaolian, finally drifting to sleep, only to be awakened by her cries. He ended up soothing her with soft words and wiped her tears until she fell asleep again, though he couldn’t follow suit.
