CHAPTER 602: DIVINE PRINCE
Finally, her fingers brushed the cold metal, and she wrapped her hand around the grip. In one swift motion, she lowered it and pulled the trigger.
The bullet flew through the dark, striking Xiang Yu’s arm. He groaned in pain but Peng Xiu was very displeased. She had been aiming for his chest but it struck his arm instead. Xiang Yu loosened his grip and eventually he let go, falling into the horde of zombies.
The crowd of flesh-hungry creatures surged over him, their growls mixing with the chaos of the falling debris. Xiang Yu was momentarily lost in a sea of bodies.
Meanwhile, Peng Xiu scrambled back, a bitter smile on her face despite the pain. The trap door slammed shut with a resounding thud. She lay on the ground, breathing heavily, her mind racing. Suddenly, a soft chuckle escaped her lips. But soon it turned into a manically bone chilling laugh. The sound was wild and exhilarated, almost unhinged. She had finally won. With as many zombies as there were, she was sure he would die a miserable death.
Granted, she would rather have him suffer as much as she suffered in the previous worlds but this was also satisfactory.
As she pushed herself into a sitting position, a loud noise shattered her moment of victory. The door burst open, sending debris flying. Instinctively, Peng Xiu grabbed her gun, aiming it at the entrance, her heart pounding with adrenaline. She prepared to squeeze the trigger.
But then she froze. There stood Han Xin, his rifle raised, looking extremely livid. His clothes were stained with blood, and his eyes blazed with determination. He had fought his way through the building to reach Xiang Yu, and now he was here to save the person. The person he came for, though, was nowhere to be seen.
"Where is he?" Han Xin demanded, his tone sharp and commanding.
Peng Xiu felt a wave of conflicting emotions wash over her, a softness creeping into her heart amidst the chaos. She had failed to win Han Xin’s heart in every past encounter, but here she was, desperate for his attention.
"You only care about him?" she replied, her voice thick with emotion. "Did you know I was the one who was supposed to marry you? But he took my place to assassinate you."
Her voice cracked, the hurt spilling out like a broken dam. She had told herself to be strong and not show her emotions when she met Han Xin. She had even gotten a substitute to fulfil her desires and harden her heart but when she laid eyes on him, the ice around her heart melted instantly.
She didn’t want to feel vulnerable in front of him, but the truth of her desires was too heavy to bear.
Han Xin stood there, confusion etched on his features. He struggled to process her words. Why was she acting like they were in love and had promised to be with each other forever when he had never met her?
"I won’t ask you again," Han Xin said, his voice low and dangerous. "Where is he?"
Peng Xiu clutched her chest, the pain in her eyes unmistakable and raw. "Xin-ge!... He tried to kill you," she said, her voice trembling.
"Yet here you are, fighting for him. Why?... Why can he be the worst and treat you badly but you still love him?"
She took a step closer, desperation etched on her face. But Han Xin’s gaze turned fierce, his aura growing cold, a storm brewing within him.
Without warning, he pulled the trigger, firing at the ground beside her feet. The sound echoed in the room, a harsh reminder of her current predicament.
Peng Xiu flinched, stepping back as if struck. She looked up at him, eyes wide with a mix of hurt and confusion. "Xin-ge!" she cried, tears spilling down her cheeks.
"Do you even know how you ended up in this situation?" she continued, her voice breaking as the reality of her feelings spilt out. But Han Xin ignored her, moving around the room, searching for Xiang Yu.
He checked the tracker built into his wrist, its display flashing with the information he needed. Xiang Yu was inside this room but where?
"You are an immortal, the divine prince of the heavenly realm," Peng Xiu said, her voice rising with urgency. "Why are you running after a demon who brought you here? He is the reason you, an immortal, have gone through several worlds, suffering like a pathetic mortal. Yet you follow behind him as if you are bewitched!" She resorted to lying to him to tarnish Xiang Yu in Han Xin’s eyes but would it work?
Han Xin suddenly stopped his expression extremely ugly. In a terrifying, deep voice, he commanded, "Shut up!"
With the snap of his words, the once calm skies erupted into chaos. Lightning flashed, illuminating the room for a split second, followed by a thunderous roar that shook the very ground beneath them. The wind screamed through the shattered window, sending papers fluttering and debris flying.
Han Xin’s breath trembled—shallow, savage, like a cornered beast. The air around him thickened, humming with unspoken rage. He hadn’t spoken yet, but his fury hung heavy, a storm brewing in the silence. Veins on his neck throbbed visibly, and his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles threatened to split.
Peng Xiu stepped back instinctively, feeling a pressure in her chest, a tightening like gravity doubling down. Then it happened.
Without warning, Han Xin’s pupils dilated, flooding with an incandescent blue so piercing it seemed to burn. It wasn’t light, it was divine judgment.
Pure, unfiltered power he didn’t know he possessed. His aura erupted like a shockwave. The velvet drapes flapped madly. The heavy oak table cracked. A vase levitated, then shattered in midair.
Peng Xiu’s knees gave way. Not from fear but awe. She had never seen him like this. She tried to speak, but her voice was drowned under the weight of his presence.
Han Xin didn’t notice. He was trapped inside his fury, inside a question that tore at reality itself. His voice exploded like a thunderclap, "Where is he?"
The room vibrated. Not just the walls but space itself warped, as if the boundaries of their world trembled under the demand of that question. His blue-lit eyes scoured everything looking for someone very important.
