CHAPTER 325: THE RISING GOLDEN WAVES OF SOUND

When he had come to the council room, Tamiko had expected everything. He knew that there would be aspects that would make him question everything that he believed in, and he figured it would all be related to Kosta.

He never imagined that his mother would be the subject at a meeting that he had hoped she wasn’t. Granted, he was out for revenge, but damn was it unsettling for him. He hated the feeling of being so weak that he couldn’t even say shit because he had never been there.

No matter what they tried to say about that attack years ago, it had obviously happened because of him. He was the heir that they had always controlled, and they had won when they took out everyone who could have saved him.

They had fucked him over from the very beginning.

"You were born, in case you’re racking your mind about what could have happened differently that day," King Zaffuto’s voice interrupted his son’s self-loathing and blaming session.

He had expected that Tamiko would be so against everything that was happening.

He had expected the little break down and frankly, a part of Zaffuto had hated the flashbacks, it was like he was being forced back into a lifetime he had done everything to get out of.

It wasn’t fair and no matter how hard Zaffuto tried to act like it was normal, they both knew that they could have figured it out with ease. This was something that Zaffuto had failed in so much and he hated himself for that.

He had spent the past twenty-six years despising himself and he wasn’t about to let his son go through that shit again. There isn’t much that Kaito could have done back then and even today.

He wanted his son to be alright and perhaps he was asking for the impossible of a broken son. The king knew his son had it in him.

"Papa," Tamiko breathed defeatedly before he rushed to his father, throwing himself into his father’s waiting arms like he belonged there. He felt so alone and so desperate, but right there in the mad king’s waiting arms, Tamiko felt like he belonged.

He felt like he was never alone anymore like the world was not trying to fuck him over.

If anything, the young prince felt protected and safe, which was a first for him. It was the realization that danced on the young Kaito as he held his father closely and even when he felt his father’s arms wrap around him tightly.

It was not possessive, but a soft and tender hug that told the kid all that the king couldn’t say out loud. He didn’t even need to say it because his eyes were glazed and it was so obvious that he was just a man who wanted to keep his pup safe.

It was easily the best thing that could have happened for the mad king and he wished that his Liana was here with them. This would have been the perfect family.

"You’re alright, little angel. You’re alright. Papa is here for you, no one is going to hurt you, not as long as I live and I don’t plan on dying anytime soon. No one will ever take you away from me.

"Many have tried to break me using family and they always, always, failed," King Zaffuto said softly as he patted his son’s back and Tamiko stiffened for a moment.

There was something about his father’s words, something about the way the king was way too calm that scared him. It was not the worst kind of fear but it wasn’t the most reassuring at the same time.

This was a man who had lost his Erasthai and his pup for years. He had never gotten over the death of the Lycan Queen and even had seen him desiccate from reality one too many items.

For a moment, a strange thing lingered in Tamiko’s mind, and however crazy it was, Tamiko wondered if it was ever true. The little thought of the possibility of his mother being alive.

It was crazy how so many years had passed and the mad king had stayed put in his place not talking to anyone for years and years. It was crazy how he had all the resources to go out there and sign his son and yet he never went out himself.

He had sent people to look for his son, which was even crazy because the Hinatas were strongly banned. Maybe Tamiko was overthinking, so he sighed in his father’s arms, letting himself feel at home right where he was needed.

This madman would protect him without so much as a doubt and Tamiko knew it one too many times. He understood that over the two years had been here, people disappeared one by one.

Granted, they didn’t disappear in a way that anyone would have noticed, but Tamiko did. No one who had talked shit to him since he came to Kawai was alive. They were all dead and with different illnesses; things so common that no one would ever raise suspicions.

But Tamiko knew.

He had seen his father’s breakdown that one time with the minister’s head and his son. He had seen what his father had done and Tamiko had understood there and then that he was the son of the devil.

The devil who lived for him.

He was the devil who never cared about anything other than his little boy. His little angel.

And it was comforting because Tamiko felt safe.

It wasn’t because he was a Hinata, but because his father had managed to make him feel safe over the years.

"It hurts so much, papa. I can’t stop thinking about mama. I can’t help but wonder if things would have been better if I didn’t exist," Tamiko said knowing so well that his father would probably lose his shit because of that.

It was kind of crazy that he still wanted to let his father know everything that had happened to him, and how he was feeling.

Sure, his father was the worst man alive, but Tamiko was his son – his little angel and that wasn’t about to change. That was all the comfort that Tamiko needed this time.

"I know, son. I will make it better. Papa got this. I swear it," King Zaffuto said in earnest as he pulled back for the hug and kissed her son’s forehead. He was the proudest of his son and there wasn’t even a way to deny it.

He knew that the shit that his son had gone through had probably ruined Tamiko’s faith in humanity and King Zaffuto wasn’t going to stand there and act like he wanted to restore it.

All he wanted was to see his son happy. To see that his son was alive and well. And with Kosta being the Erasthai Tamiko had always had, the king didn’t have that much to worry about.

He was sure his son would be alright. And just as a measure, he had sworn he would do whatever it took to see to it that his little boy found whatever the fuck he wanted.

"What if this cycle doesn’t stop, papa? What if all our lives will be just violence and endless violence?" Tamiko asked earnestly. He knew that they were royals and with the history, his father had under his belt.

The chances of peace when Kawai attacked anyone, would be slimmer and slimmer by day. Eventually, it would be war after war after war. There wouldn’t be a way out for them and a peace that would be kept.

It would be an endless cycle of Kawai conquering kingdoms and lands that would eventually get boring at some point. And they would be living empty lives without meaning just because they didn’t understand the first thing about love and life.

It was crazy what life had become for them over the years, but hey, the kid was right to ask what this would be like, right?

"It won’t. I won’t let it. Because if I did, my Lili would hang me by the balls and drag me down glass shards. She would never let me see the light of day if you’re not happy. And I wouldn’t let myself live if that ever happened to you son.

"I wouldn’t let it happen," King Zaffuto said confidently and Tamiko grimaced at the way his father talked of his mother’s punishment methods like he was talking about the weather.

Perhaps they had all been fucked up one too many times because this wasn’t supposed to be comforting, and yet it was for Tamiko.

It was one thing for Tamiko to make the promise of peace to Kosta when he knew that there were other elements of their lives that needed to be considered for that to be achieved.

However, it was another for the king himself to make that promise, because for as long as Tamiko could remember, his father never once broke a promise made to him. His father had always kept all his promises and however creepy he did them, it was the results that always mattered.

That was also how Tamiko knew that come hell or high water, his father would make sure he was happy and in truth, Tamiko would be the good son and be the good mate to Kosta too. This was what a happy ending would look like, or so they hoped.

"That’s awful, papa," Tamiko voiced.

Zaffuto let out a sigh of relief.

"Trust me, angel. Your mother would haunt me if I let you get hurt. Besides, I love you and I will do anything to protect you and your happiness... Let’s go back in," the king said.
