CHAPTER 342: STILL DON’T KNOW MY NAME

[THE FREE LANDS]

The battlefield was harsh, to say the least.

The Kawai warriors were armed to the teeth and were not taking hostages.

The demand was clear – move, or be moved – and yet even with that so certain, there were wolves who still thought there would be a chance for them to try and fight back.

They wouldn’t win.

They knew it, but maybe they wanted to say they never went down without a fight.

But then with a battalion that was unleashed to clear the free lands no matter what the price was, was it really smart to be challenging the likes of Igor Konstantin, Akila, and even Floki? This was peak madness.

"Enough! Who is in charge?" Gabriel Grealor’s voice boomed as he made his way into the center of the chaos.

He knew what he was doing was easily the craziest of things, but if this was how they had to end their alliances, surely there had to be better ways around it all, no? They couldn’t be bound by murder all the time when there was still room for talks.

Then again, would it ever really matter at the end of the day, when the Lycan warriors were never going to leave unless the free lands had been claimed and were back under the reign of the Lycan royals?

"Gabriel Grealor. Come to beg knowing you are next?" Igor smirked, openly inviting the Grealor alpha into whatever mess the Grealors would be tempted to trigger just to get out of their current predicament.

The fact that Gabe had once been an omega even just for a while was something that no one would forget, no matter how much time passed. And if Gabriel tried to mess with Konstantin today, the history books on the shelves would not be as kinder to the man.

It wasn’t even open for negotiation anymore, and Gabe stared at the barbarian who was not bothered by his presence. For a moment, Gabe was taken aback, clearly not expecting Igor Konstantin to be on the battlefield.

He had known that the omega wouldn’t be allowed out, because of the little stunt that Zula had succeeded in, but perhaps he had underestimated the kind of trust the Lycan warriors had in Igor Konstantin.

Omega or not, after the royals, Konstantin was the best strategist and even the war Lord ministers knew it like the back of their hands. Perhaps the young Grealor was not here to try and battle it out, no?

"I need to talk to the man in charge, Konstantin," Gabe said, his stance not wavering even though Kosta could hear the man’s heart almost beating out of his chest. He couldn’t even blame Gabriel, because this was the beginning of their end.

"That would still be me, Gabriel. Tell me, what brings you to this side of the realm? I thought you never interacted with rogues. Or did the Grealor forest finally open up so you could create more cabins for the outcasts you can’t make into slaves?" Kosta asked spitefully.

Gabe groaned.

He should have known that the Lycan Chief position was never going to be taken from Kostantin and now he had to deal with the man and his taunts. But even then, there was no denying that there was some truth in Konstantin’s words.

The line had been drawn and there was no going back. The fact that Tamiko had been the one to draw it, made it even worse, because that was the only truth Gabe needed to understand that there was no going back after this.

"I came for a truce," Gabe said.

Igor laughed at the absurdity.

Only that this time, it wasn’t just Kosta.

The Lycan ministers on the battlefield along with the Lycan warriors had joined in. This was easily the worst joke that the Grealor alpha had made and yet he seemed so confident that this would work.

Then again, maybe he thought that this was one of those days when Kawai was willing to step back and let the wolves leave peacefully. But the white flag was not here. It was just ruthless bloodbaths from here on out.

"You could have thrown in the wet towel about twenty-six years ago, when you used the rogues to bring down the one place that could have saved your lives, Gabriel. The history books are open for everyone I suppose you can read, no?" Igor mocked.

He could see the way that Gabe was losing his footing and the way that the Lycan warriors were clanking their swords and sharpening their blades without so much care as they waited for the rogues who insisted on not leaving to come at them.

They had waited for this day for so long and they were not going to go home just because a suddenly righteous alpha figured that his race would be having the worst losses if they didn’t stop.

There had been time for that, countless times, and the wolves had never honored the freedom they were given.

Instead, they kept poking and prodding, and now, here they were on the battlefield to doom, and without anyone to stop them from giving back what the other factions had given Kawai that fateful morning in the birthing hall.

"You know I was young back then. I can make things right at this moment, Igor. Please let me take them," Gabriel pleaded and Igor burst out laughing. This little wolf had some audacity coming here with his record.

He was the highest target on their list and while his doomsday was not here yet. Gabe needed to sleep with one eye open because, at the end of the day, it was coming. Retribution would call and Gabriel would have to answer regardless.

"Young, eh?" Igor snickered.

"How about two years ago, Gabriel? Or let’s go back a few years back, say six? How about then? Were you still young? When you didn’t stop, despite all the signs being there that he was from Kawai. Did you stop?

"Or do you want to talk about the evening your father sat you down and explained why keeping HIM in your home was the only play you had then? Were you still young? Cut the bullshit and pick up your sword Gabriel," Igor insisted.

He was raging for Tamiko’s pain. He was determined to make sure no one forgot what the Grealor bastards had done and he was here to see to it that fate didn’t try to get the wolves out of this one. It was not their time just yet, and Kosta would see to it.

"You don’t want war with Grealor, Konstantin," Gabe laughed humorlessly, the pleas that were evident in his eyes changing to the cruelty that their Kaito had been shown in the lands that had snatched him up.

"You had the chance to clear that up. The chance to make the right amends. You had time, and HE didn’t. Hell, He didn’t even know who he was until a few years ago. You could have changed the narrative, but you didn’t.

"Now pick up your sword or I will run you through," Igor said and that was all the Lycans needed to get back to fighting the rogues who had insisted on staying.

They had been here for three days already and they had one more, before they had to go all fatal combat on them.

They were giving the wolves the chance to save themselves, but the bastards were still fools like they had been two days ago, and even worse, twenty-six years ago.

"Fuck," Gabriel groaned as he unsheathed his sword and joined the unwinnable battle.
