CHAPTER 343: OF SHAKY BRIDGES THAT STOOD

[GREALOR]

"Your stupid son is fighting Konstantin," Zula said to Ashton who was currently watching the remaining Grealor warriors train. They knew that the war they had been running away from for years was here.

Time had gone by a little too fast for their liking and no matter what they tried to do, they had to face their truths. The army that had left with Gabe was just a quarter of them all and with some of the rogues already in Grealor—

They needed to come up with a plan on what they would do if the Kawai Lycans found their way through the borders of Grealor.

Then again, it wasn’t just an assumption anymore. They didn’t have Tamiko who they could use against the mad king and they didn’t have Danny who they could use to coerce Tamiko into helping them out.

They had nothing but a bunch of warriors who were ready to fight and were undertrained. None of them had the skills to match that of the laziest Kawai warriors and it was appalling, to say the least.

Perhaps there would come a time when they would be better, but with the first battle in the long war already being fought in the free lands, it was just a matter of time before shit hit the fan and they wouldn’t have a way out.

"He is buying us time," Ashton said confidently and Zula snorted disrespectfully. It was like she couldn’t believe that this was what they had all been reduced to. It was not what they had risked everything for, but what was the point then?

Everything would be over anyway if the Lycans made their way here. The least they could do was secure Grealor and see to it that the innocents were protected first because there was no telling who could be attacked.

The logic of innocent women and children being saved in the war between the wolves and the Lycans was out the window the moment the Lycans figured out it was the Grealor wolves who had sliced up their mothers like pieces of chicken for an heir that they had no business taking because time had already bested them either way.

This was their greatest lesson, but their punishment was coming, and it would be covered in a royal gown and a Hinata staff that would melt anyone to combustible liquids. It was just something that they all expected and were still scared of facing even then.

"You do realize Konstantin won’t spare Gabriel no matter what you try to do, no?" Zula asked and Ashton turned towards his friend. He could see where she was coming from but she was a tad too pessimistic with him.

"Gabriel is Tamiko’s to kill. Konstantin knows that. The king knows that. Hell, even the Lycans themselves already know that. The only thing Igor can do is harm Gabe, but he won’t kill my son.

"That will be enough time for us to have migrated all the vulnerable of Grealor and put them in safer places that the Lycans wouldn’t reach," Ashton insisted and Zula scoffed.

She couldn’t believe that this was what she had been reduced to along with the wolves whose side she had taken instead of her brother.

Maybe if she had been smart enough, she wouldn’t have tried to take something that belonged to Zaffuto because not only was he left with a dumb alpha but here she was stranded with a pack of wolves who had nothing but fear in their eyes even as their warriors trained.

What the fuck was she supposed to do with them then?

"You are fucking hopeless, Ashton," Zula huffed before she left for her hut on the border of Grealor, and the free lands.

She was aware that no amount of her magic would work on the Lycans now that Konstantin and Tamiko had finally completed the mating bond, which meant that he had to think of a way to eliminate the Lycan army out there.

But what use would it be for her, when at the end of the day, she knew that Zaffuto would win regardless?

It didn’t matter how hard she tried.

She had betrayed him first and she knew he was not a forgiving man, and with his son also the prince of doom there was no denying that hell was coming for Grealor and Zula was unfortunately part of that damn Grealor itself. She was doomed.

"Are you giving up on the plan to take out Konstantin and ruin Lord Sadako?" Ciel’s voice interrupted Zula’s thoughts the moment she stepped into her hut. She hadn’t been expecting anyone.

However, if she had been attentive enough, she would have smelled the tardy wolf in her den from miles away. But that wasn’t the case and she didn’t know how to go about it just yet.

She needed Gabriel on her side and if she took out Ciel, she would have to deal with the wrath of a Gabriel that never played when it came to his loyal friends.

The warlock was at a crossroads, but perhaps it wasn’t that complicated, given Ciel had been willing to go on whatever hell-bound mission they had for him, as long as it ended with Lord Sadako dead, dead and dead.

Would it ever be possible or were they counting on the fates to help them now that they had gotten the help years ago?

But then betrayal forma Hinata only sprung once, given the endless count of failures the wolves had amassed over the years they tried to best the house Hinata. It was pointless either way, but trials had to be made and Ciel was determined to see to it that he got what he needed.

"Why, you got other pans on your own, kid?" Zula asked amusedly when she finally got a hold of herself. It was pointless for her to think of the chaos that would ensue if this reached Kawai and her damned brother because then mercy would be the worst of illusions.

"That is not an answer, old warlock. Do you and your Furfantes intend to keep it going or should I start making plans on my own?" Ciel asked impatiently.

He knew he could use this war to his advantage because one of these days, Lord Sadako would find himself on the battlefield and if that day came, Ciel wanted to be the one who struck a sword into the old Lycan’s heart.

But did the young wolf know of Zaffuto’s protective spell or was he so determined that he was hoping his determination would break through the endless loops of sins that he had committed to get to this point?

Would it all even be worth it when all of this ended? And even better, would he be alive long enough to get to his mission’s completion or would he wind up as collateral damage in the battle between the Lycans and the wolves of Grealor just like his poor loyal mate then?

"You’re intelligent, kid. I’m assuming you came here from the Free lands. Instead of helping your best friend fight you are here in an old warlock’s house, hiding. Is that what loyalty is to you?" Zula asked even though she never expected any sensible answer.

"It is if I got information from the battlefield that will be relevant to the mission with the Furfantes and whoever Lycans you have in Kawai at the moment," Ciel said confidently, and once again, Zula scoffed. This kid was audacious, she had to give him that.

"And what would that be?" Zula asked disinterestedly.

"I saw Sanjiro bleeding on the battlefield. He looked pale enough to die and yet he was fighting the rogues. I thought he was your leader, or has the leadership of the Furfantes changed?" Ciel questioned.

Zula faltered.
