CHAPTER 346: THE CRUDE TALE OF CHOICES

[GREALOR]

"Zula, no!" Gabriel tried and Zula just scoffed at him.

"Let’s settle this, one-on-one, Igor. If you beat me, you can kill the remaining rogues. But if I best you, you give us Sanjiro," Zula said, ignoring Gabriel’s attempts to stop her. She wasn’t going to stop, not for anyone.

Maybe Zula had lost her mind with all of this. There were no other explanations for the most daring challenge right now. She knew what this would lead to and yet even then had still remained adamant about it all.

It was like she didn’t care that there were lives at stake and that so many people would be ruined because of her little stunt. Or maybe, just maybe, she was done waiting for the plan to mature.

Maybe she was so drunk on revenge and the desire to remind Igor that he owned him, and could manipulate him, that she forgot what it meant to be on the battlefield, truly.

It was the worst possible thing for a woman like her, but she wasn’t even bothered by it.

"Are you sure you want to do this, Zula?" Igor asked as he stared at the woman who seemed so confident that she would beat him in his.

There had been days when Konstantin had hated himself for being bested. Days when he despised the power he had that hadn’t been able to save him from their enemies.

Those were the days when he wished he had just been a normal Lycan and not just an omega who was meant to be used against his people.

He had despised that truth for a while, but then with the help of Tamiko and his people, Igor finally got over the weakness of being the omega of the crown.

He was an omega, sure, but he was a powerful one.

He couldn’t let himself be manipulated by Zula again, not even if this was the end of the road for him. Perhaps that was why he was giving her the chance to back down, because this wouldn’t end well.

"Are you running away from a direct challenge, barbarian?" Zula said and Igor smirked at her. He knew what she was doing, he had done it to many other people over the years and he wasn’t new to the dirty games.

Was that something that he wanted to explore with the woman right now? Was she worth whatever the fuck was headed for them or was she just a distraction now that Sanjiro was here?

The fact that she wanted Sanjiro was even appalling. The woman was shameless in her quest for the one person who had betrayed the Lycans for them. Or maybe betrayal ran in their blood.

Maybe that was why Konstantin wouldn’t ever be able to understand their thinking. They were maniacs, with a determination to ruin everything they touched. No one would ever want to be a part of the chaos willingly.

Hell, even the people they had come to save had been skeptical about their alliance until a high-ranking warrior had come up with it. Maybe it was a lie, but it was the lie that they had easily bought into. That was why they were all here.

Oh, but fate was a sick joke for so many, right now.

"I wouldn’t even dream of it, Zula dear. But since you want Sanjiro, and he clearly doesn’t want to be a part of the Lycan kingdom, anymore— How about you fight him to the dead? The last one standing will choose where they go, regardless of the rules.

"It might take days or months, but someone must win in the end, don’t you think?" Igo said and Gabriel stiffened. He knew this tactic. He knew what Igor was doing, he knew what this was aimed at, and honestly, for the first time, he felt terrible for Zula.

Zula wasn’t aware that Sanjiro couldn’t die, no matter what was targeted at him.

Gabe had seen the way Sanji had fought with the rogue wolves and he had seen so many of them stab the Lycan but the man just couldn’t die. It was as if they had cast a spell on him.

And that made this the most dangerous of them all. Perhaps it was time for Zula to step back and let fate take its course. Besides, Konstantin hadn’t been the one to pose the dare, which meant that Zula had the power to step back.

She could end this before it even started and Gabe hoped, for the love of the goddess, that she did. Because if she didn’t, this was an immortal long road for them. This was going to be the worst if the worst out there and it wouldn’t be pretty.

Zula had to think.

"What do you say, Zula? Igor asked.

Zula stared at the man in question. She could see the way he was battered and poked all over. She could see the way that he was ruined and yet was still standing. Even with their Lycan abilities, Sanjiro wasn’t supposed to be standing.

He wasn’t supposed to even have that much strength to be trying to make sense of the impossible. He was supposed to have been buried hours or perhaps days ago. It was that simple, and Zula could see it. This was not the right plan of action.

"I wanted to fight you, for Sanjiro, Konstantin. I didn’t want to fight Sanjiro, for Sanjiro. No one goes to the market to fight for the same goods they want to buy. We both know I might ruin him and I don’t want ruined products.

"He won’t be useful to me if I ruin him. So, I’ll pass," Zula said and everyone stared in silence while Gabe let out a sigh of relief. This was the most dangerous thing that anyone could have probably suggested, but this was the smartest decision from Zula herself.

The traps had been laid out well and if Zula had given in, they would have been doomed. For the first time in a while, Gabe let himself breathe freely. He didn’t want to think of what the plan had been for Zula after the win or possible loss.

He didn’t want to imagine how fucked up they would have been if Zula had insisted on sighting Konstantin. That would be dangerous, and no one would have survived it, save for the high-ranking royals who didn’t have an issue with leaving everything behind.

"Are you sure about that at this point?" Konstantin asked mischievously.

"I am certain. From this point on, I shall go back and you won’t attack us. Those who are beyond the barrier are already home," Zula said as she looked at the remaining rogues on the other side of the barrier.

She knew so well that they were doomed no matter what she said to them. Those rogues who had been left outside were at the mercy of the Lycans and no one knew what the Lycans would do to get Grealor in exchange for them.

"You’re sacrificing your warriors?" Floki asked amusedly.

"We all know they are already dead either way," Zula said stiffly.

"Alright. Looks like you won’t mind me taking them with us," Igor said before he created a huge portal and took with him his entire army and the rogues who had just been abandoned by Zula and Gabriel.

"We’re fucked," Gabe breathed in despair.
