CHAPTER 22: CHAPTER 22: MEMORIES ARE MEANINGFUL BECAUSE OF HIM
Gu Yan couldn’t resist Qin Junnan’s insistence, so she reluctantly got into the car.
Honestly, she felt a bit guilty; she had just been splashed with water, and although it was hot and she dried off quickly, she still felt quite dirty. Sitting in Qin Junnan’s expensive car made her uncomfortable.
"So, senior, when did you come back?" Gu Yan, awkward by herself, started a random topic to distract herself from the discomfort.
Qin Junnan had been Gu Yan’s senior by one grade during high school. After they graduated, his family sent him abroad for studies, and it had been five years now. Gu Yan hadn’t contacted him for five years either.
"A couple of days ago."
"Oh." Gu Yan nodded, "How’s life abroad? Any adaptation issues? Any beautiful foreign girls pursuing you? Ah, with a senior as outstanding as you, there must be many who like you."
Five years ago, Qin Junnan was recognized as the school heartthrob. He came from a good family, was handsome, had a gentle manner, and was extremely popular. Nearly all the girls in school liked him.
And five years ago, Gu Yan was one of them.
But she had a secret crush.
Moreover, she was always busy working part-time to earn living expenses and didn’t have the time or energy to do anything for a boy she liked secretly. It wasn’t until he graduated and left that she felt a vague sense of regret.
But it was just regret. Since then, she had always kept him in her memory.
She didn’t want to forget because Qin Junnan was the only person ever to stir her heart, encompassing those feelings of youth, naivety, and the purest secret of a girl’s inner world.
Because of him, her memories had a lingering flavor.
"Not bad," Qin Junnan replied, "But I’m not very interested in foreign girls."
"Ah? Have you had a girlfriend over these years?"
"No." He answered straightforwardly, and for some unknown reason, Gu Yan felt a small bit of happiness in her heart.
"How could you not? Even if you’re not interested in foreign girls, there are excellent Chinese girls abroad too."
"Busy with studies, no time for romance." Qin Junnan said and cast a meaningful glance at Gu Yan’s face reflected in the rearview mirror.
"I see." Gu Yan understood and turned her gaze to the window. She recognized the street outside and hurriedly asked Qin Junnan to stop the car, "Senior, I’ll get off here."
Qin Junnan glanced outside. It was a narrow street without streetlights and appeared very dark. He frowned slightly, "Should I walk you inside?"
"No need; I walk this road every day, nothing will happen." She unclasped her seatbelt and prepared to get out.
Suddenly, her arm was grasped by a hand, and Gu Yan turned her head in confusion. Her arm felt somewhat warm.
Qin Junnan’s gentle gaze pierced into her eyes, causing a subtle, strange sensation in her heart.
"Let’s exchange contact info, in case we can meet again, okay?"
"Okay." Gu Yan nodded. At this moment, it seemed she would agree to anything Qin Junnan said, because his gaze was just too tender, just like before, as if it hadn’t changed at all.
It was this kind of gentle gaze, intoxicating enough to make her secretly fall for him.
Gu Yan recited her phone number to him. After he dialed it and saw that Gu Yan also saved the number, he felt relieved.
"Send me a text when you get home." He instructed.
"Mm, okay." Gu Yan smiled and nodded, then got out of the car, waved goodbye to him, and walked down the small street.
