CHAPTER 39: CHAPTER 39: SO YOU SOLD ME?
Gu Yan gradually felt her body getting a bit warm. She shifted uncomfortably, thinking it must have been because the air conditioning in the room was set too high.
Gu Qin and President Liu pretended not to notice her discomfort, smiling and chatting happily.
Throughout, Gu Qin kept giving Gu Yan meaningful looks, urging her to be proactive. Gu Yan had no choice but to toast President Liu with a few more drinks.
She wasn’t good at drinking in the first place, and her alcohol tolerance was very low. After a few cups, her cheeks began to flush, and her gaze grew hazy.
A drunken woman appeared even more charming, and President Liu couldn’t help himself, boldly placing his hand on her shoulder.
Gu Yan reflexively brushed President Liu’s hand away and stood up in a panic, frowning.
President Liu was made uncomfortable by her strong reaction, "What? Is Miss Gu unwilling?"
It took Gu Yan a moment to grasp the meaning behind his words. She frowned and said, "President Liu, I’m grateful you are willing to lend us money, but please respect yourself."
"Respect myself?" President Liu sneered mockingly, his greedy eyes unabashedly fixed on her, "Why do you think I agreed to lend money for your father’s surgery? Do I have money to throw around? Even for friends, a million is not a small sum. It’s not something easy to lend just like that."
Hearing this, Gu Yan suddenly had a bad premonition, "What do you mean?"
"It’s quite clear. Your mother has agreed to marry you to me, or rather, sell you to me." President Liu bluntly revealed the truth, and those last three words struck Gu Yan with a deep sense of malice.
She widened her eyes in disbelief, "How could this be?!"
She looked at Gu Qin, who showed no signs of unease or guilt, evidently aware of everything from the start. It should be said that the current situation was orchestrated by them from the very beginning, and she was the only one kept in the dark. She had genuinely thought a kind person was willing to lend them money to tide over the crisis, when in fact, it was all a premeditated plan to sell her off for money.
Gu Qin rested a hand on the back of a chair, crossing her legs, an air of infinite charm about her.
She toyed with her fingernails, looking at Gu Yan and saying, "Gu Yan, don’t blame us for making decisions on our own. Auntie didn’t mean it. Now that Uncle is lying in the hospital critically ill, even if we sell everything we own, we can’t come up with a million. She’s at her wit’s end, and now there’s this opportunity; just seize it. You wouldn’t want Uncle to pass away from prolonged illness, would you?"
Gu Yan clutched the straps of her backpack tightly, veins bulging on her hands, holding back her anger as she retorted, "So you just sold me off?"
No wonder Mrs. Gu showed her a lot less attitude today and just kept urging her to come over. So that’s what it was all about.
Gu Yan’s whole heart seemed wrapped in ice and snow, chilled to the bone, trembling.
Gu Qin was indifferent, "As long as we can save Uncle, so what? Plus, President Liu is wealthy; you won’t suffer by being with him."
The most important thing is, sacrificing you paves the way for my future, so why not do it?
President Liu chimed in, "I won’t treat you badly. Don’t resist, or you’ll just watch your father die in the hospital."
Gu Yan looked at them angrily, the heat in her body starkly contrasting with the coldness in her heart. She suddenly realized something, her body going weak as she stepped back two steps, her eyes widening further, "Did you drug the wine?!"
"Isn’t it obvious?" Gu Qin chuckled lightly, exchanging a glance with President Liu, feeling particularly thrilled.
"Despicable and shameless!" Gu Yan cursed weakly.
