CHAPTER 66: CHAPTER 66: LET’S TALK ABOUT IT LATER WHEN WE’RE FREE

Gu Yan only left the hospital after paying the surgery fee.

Last night, Tang Yuxiu promised to pick her up in three days; now there are still two days left. While she has the time, she plans to go back and pack some things.

Tomorrow Gu’s father is having surgery; she’ll definitely have no time for anything else.

To avoid rushing and annoying Tang Yu when the time comes, it’s better to prepare in advance.

When she got home, Xue Xianglan’s call came through.

"Dear Gu Yan, guess where I am right now?" Xue Xianglan’s voice was full of energy, and Gu Yan could hear the sound of waves coming from her end.

"By the sea, huh?"

"That’s right, I’m at the Mediterranean checking out handsome guys, but sadly, not a single one is to my taste," she said with a sigh.

"What’s so great about Mediterranean hunks? We’ve got plenty of homegrown ones." Gu Yan walked to the bedroom to find her suitcase.

"It’s nice to change the scenery once in a while." Xue Xianglan said, "By the way, how have you been? Is work going well?"

Hearing this, Gu Yan’s hand paused, and she sat on the floor for quite a while before answering in a light tone, "Things have been fine lately, and work’s been smooth. I even got an advance on my salary from the boss a few days ago, so eating and drinking aren’t an issue."

Xue Xianglan didn’t catch anything from her words, "That’s good. I’m going to be out and about for a while longer. You take care of yourself alone at home and think of me often."

"Have fun, and remember to bring me back some souvenirs."

"OK, you can absolutely count on that."

"Alright, I still have things to do, won’t talk much more."

"Okay, if there’s any problem you can’t solve, make sure to call me." Xue Xianglan reminded her again, though she knew Gu Yan wouldn’t.

"Yeah, bye-bye."

Gu Yan hung up the phone and stared blankly at the floor.

Hearing Xue Xianglan’s voice made her feel like she wasn’t completely alone.

She had a good friend who hadn’t left her side for years and thought of her even from afar.

Gu Yan had experienced too much disappointment lately and only now felt a trace of warmth.

She did have things troubling her, but how could she bear to worry her friend or ask for anything from her?

No matter how wealthy Xue Xianglan might be, it’s not her money.

Gu Yan stayed in a daze for a long time, only brought back to reality by the sound of a text message.

She assumed it was spam, but a casual glance showed the name Qin Junnan standing out prominently.

Her heart skipped a beat, why would her senior suddenly text her? If it’s something important, wouldn’t he call?

Unlocking her phone screen, the message from Qin Junnan read: "Gu Yan, this is Qin Junnan. I’ve been too busy to contact you these past few days, finally have some free time today. Are you free for lunch?"

Lunch again.

Gu Yan no longer felt the excitement and thrill she did the first time.

Last time she had already seen clearly the distance between them, and planned to maintain that distance; she should stick to it.

Besides, she needed to pack and get a good rest today to prepare for caring for Gu’s father non-stop tomorrow; she really didn’t have any extra time.

So, she replied: "Sorry, senior, I’m really busy these days and don’t have time to go out for lunch. We can talk about it when I’m free later."

On the other side, Qin Junnan stared at the reply for a long time, a bitter smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

Always being turned down, it’s truly disheartening.

But he wouldn’t push her too hard, so he replied back: "It’s okay, we can arrange it for another time."

"Thank you, senior."
