Warhammer Divine Throne
Chapter 448 - 191: Conceptions Regarding Artillery
Early November, Brittania, Baron Gene's Domain, in the prayer room on the third floor of Laine's Baron Castle.
Since the renovations are not yet completed, the Lake Fairy's tower currently has only two floors, far from the minimum of five floors the Lake Fairy demands. The craftsmen estimate it will be completed by this time next year.
Laine did not blame these craftsmen, as most of them he hired are from Montfort and Boldro. To help him maintain and rebuild the castle, the great merchant Ismail recruited not necessarily the best craftsmen in Brittania, but certainly first-rate ones. Ismail's strategy is to first repair the castle, then build the new tower, because in his view, the new tower requires a lot of manpower and energy, while the old Baron Castle already has the entire outline and stone walls. What is needed is mainly internal decoration, re-planning of areas, and repairing some places that are old and damaged.
Considering that Laine had no place to live, Ismail's consideration was undoubtedly to first complete the repairs of the Baron Castle as soon as possible, then construct the tower.
The prayer room on the third floor has always been a forbidden area for the castle's servants, especially after Laine returned to the territory. Laine stipulated that no one except Ollica was allowed to enter the prayer room, which was always kept locked.
Inside the prayer room, the original structure remained unchanged, with only the Lake Fairy and Laine sitting opposite each other. At this moment, the Lake Fairy looked different from usual; her originally rosy complexion was slightly pale. Her delicate hands that always held the Holy Grail were clasped with Laine's right hand, and the Holy Grail was placed aside.
Laine's condition was also not good; the Holy Grail Knight Commander's spirit was somewhat lethargic, yet he continuously transferred his spiritual energy to the Lake Fairy.
Normally, deities exist in the subspace, where the emotional fluctuations of their followers form energy, gathering to create the deities. For deities to interfere in the mortal world, they must expend a lot of divine power to enter the Prime Material Plane and find a suitable vessel, making it indeed difficult for them to meddle in the matters of the Prime Material Plane. Many things, mortals have already done their best; many things mortals must rely on themselves, and that is the truth of it.
However, Laine's presence equates to opening a backdoor for the Lake Fairy between the subspace and the mortal world. The Lake Fairy can traverse between the subspace and the mortal world unimpeded, and as Laine's power grows, his increasingly formidable soul can ensure the Lake Fairy can unleash her divine power to the fullest.
"Indeed, Musillon's walls, under magic and seal protection, cannot be breached." After a long while, the Lake Fairy's complexion turned increasingly pale, and she motioned to Laine that it was enough.
The flood, after sweeping through the Duchy of Connaught for an entire day, still could not breach Musillon's walls. So, after a substantial consumption of divine power, the Lake Fairy decided to abort the action, retracting her hand: "Alright, Laine, my champion, let's leave it at this for now."
"Alright!" Laine also withdrew his hand, his spiritual energy mostly depleted. In the prayer room, both the human and the deity looked somewhat weary. The Lake Fairy extended her arm toward Laine, beckoning him to sit beside her, sighing deeply: "This way, the Blood Red Duke and his allies won't be able to start a war on their own initiative for a while, and we've at least secured more time."
"Thank you, my lady." As Laine was about to retract his hand, the Lake Fairy immediately linked his arm, leaning against him. The goddess's voice was full of fatigue: "My champion, I need to rest for a while."
"Alright, I think I also need to rest for a while. I have to say, my lady, you're not exactly sparing when using my spiritual energy," Laine joked, feeling quite exhausted himself.
"You're my champion; if I don't use yours, whose would I use?" The Lake Fairy jested with Laine. With Laine's help, the Blood Red Duke and his so-called Black Knight allies in Musillon cannot do much temporarily. They must quickly restore their army and production within the territory, for although the undead no longer need food and sleep, assembling an undead army still requires a large amount of weapons and magical cost. The vampires also need substantial human blood to satisfy their bloodthirst. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the Holy Grail Knights will collectively set out to retrieve those Holy Grail relics and inter them in the Holy Grail Cathedral in Kulona.
This matter did not concern Laine anymore, as the Lake Fairy had explicitly stated that he would not be needed for the next part; Morgiana and her subordinates, the Holy Grail Knights, would handle it.
A thought crossed Laine's mind, although he did not show it on his face.
He had an idea, which was to use the Black Chalice Knight situation to attempt to control and command the Holy Grail Knight Order. If he could strengthen his ties with the Holy Grail Knight Order, he could accomplish much more in the future.
He had already established a good foundation in Brittania, but it was not yet solid enough.
The Lake Fairy seemed to perceive his thoughts and softly said, "Not yet, my champion, not yet..."
"My lady, I plan to equip the army with artillery." Laine knew some things could not be rushed. In this year's knightly war, he had already made a significant impression, arousing dissatisfaction among many conservative nobles. Especially after the wood elves and dwarves appeared openly in his domain, some dukes had a lot to say about it. For example, Duke Montfort, who guards the Axe Bite Pass, expressed strong opinions, being hostile to any race other than humans and not allowing any non-human life forms to reside in his domain.
