Chapter 114 Second Thoughts
Kaia knew exactly what Lucien meant. She just hadn’t expected bim to show this yful, roguish side of himself.
She decided to stop being coy. Closing her eyes, she leaned in to kiss his cheek.
Lucien’s deep eyes fixed on her pink lips, and in that split
second before contact, he tilted his head and offered his own lips instead.
The warm sensation on her mouth made Kaia’s eyes fly open in panic. “You-”
Lucien pulled back with perfect timing, running his thumb along the corner of his mouth. “Thanks. I really like this prize.”
Kaia huffed in annoyance and marched down with his ck
umbre.
Lucien watched with a smile. “Damn it. She’s so cute.”
Tomorrow, he’d officially be a married man.
At the bottom of the mountain, Kaia found Tobias and the others still waiting. “Dad, you guys go ahead. I drove myself.”
Tobias fixed his intense gaze on Kaia. “You finished?”

“Mm,” Kaia responded coolly.

He wanted to know, but he couldn’t ask with Sally and Kimberly standing right there.
“You’re heading back to the Domont Vi?” Tobias asked.
“Yeah.”
Tobias nodded. “Good. Stay a bit longer then. I’lle back after I drop Sally off at home.”
Kimberly’s lips twitched. She hated how Tobias talked like this -as if she and Sally were outsiders while he and Kaia were the real family.
Kimberly red at Kaia in frustration.
Kaia smiled to herself with quiet contempt. “Sure thing, Dad. I’ll head out now.”
“Drive safe.” Tobias acted like the perfect caring father.
Kaia only found it ridiculous.

bBack /bat the Domont Vi, Kaia found herself drawn to bire’s /bphoto again. She reached out to touch it, feeling a wave bof /bemotion wash over her.
Sue saw Kaia return and knew they’d been visiting ire on the mountain. “Ms. Domont, you’re back!” she said warmly.
“Sue, I’m pretty hungry. Do we have anything to eat?” Kaia smiled.
“Of course! I made soup this morning just in case you came back hungry. Should I get you a bowl?b” /b
Kaia beamed, “Sounds good, Sue. Thanks.”
After ire’s mourning period ended, she wouldn’t be spending much time at the vi anymore. Especially once she got the marriage license with Lucien.
She headed to Tobias‘ study to find her documents. Her address was still linked to Tobias, so after getting the marriage license, she’d find time to change it.
All the documents were kept in the desk drawer in Tobias‘ study. And before long, she noticed a yellowed notebook in the drawer that looked familiar. When she opened it and saw the handwriting, her eyes widened in shock.
This was her mother’s diaryb. /b

[Tobias and I got married today. We had dinner with the bfamily/bb, /band I feel so happy. My only regret is that Dad and my brother didn’te. -Lillian.]
[September 9th.]
[I’m pregnant! Tobias is thrilled. He says he hopes this one’s a boy, and then we can have a girl next. That way, when we’re old, the big brother can look out for his little sister. -Lillian.]
[October 10th.]
[For the first time, I understand what despair feels like.]
[I don’t know what to do. I asked the doctor if I could terminate the pregnancy, but he said if I do, it’ll be very hard to get pregnant again.]
[I never thought Tobias would cheat on me.]
[This is ridiculous! I hurt my own family for this man, and he goes and cheats on me!]
[I don’t know what to do, baby. If I get rid of you, will you me me?]
Kaia’s blood ran cold as she read those words. Her face went

pale in an instant.
Tobias had been cheating during the pregnancy.
She thought about her mother’s face in her memories–always sad, always withdrawn. The realization hit her like a knife to the heart.
After Lillian died, Tobias married Sally just three monthster. And he’d been cheating all along.
Lillian hadn’t died from poor health–she’d died from
heartbreak and emotional exhaustion.
Tobias‘ voice drifted up from downstairs. “Kaia-”
When Kaia didn’t respond, he turned to Sue. “Sue, have you seen Kaia?”
“Mr. Graves, I think Ms. Domont is upstairs,” Sue replied.
Kaia’s blood boiled as she quickly shut the drawer and stuffed the document and diary into her bag. She grabbed her things and tried to calm the rage building inside her.
Tobias spotted her as she got out. “Kaia, what are you doing up there? Come to the study. Dad needs to ask you something.”
Her stomach churned at the word “dad“. It made her sick to hear it. She took a deep breath before saying, “Fine. Make it

quick. I need to get back to thew firm.”
Tobias didn’t notice her change in attitude. He just looked
excited as he asked, “Was that Lucien I saw earlier? I caught a glimpse of someone who looked just like him!”
Kaia felt a coldugh rise in her throat.

She watched the barely contained joy on Tobias‘ face, her eyes turning ice–cold.
“Yes, it was him. What if I told you we’re getting our marriage license tomorrow?” Kaia said.
“Really?” Tobias‘ voice cracked slightly.
“Dad, I’m having second thoughts. 20% for wedding gift wouldn’t work. Shouldn’t Mrs. Graves get at least 30% of the
shares?”
