Chapter 288 Preparing for the Future

“Kaia, I need your help sorting out a property division with Joanne,” Zane said, his voice low but steady. “Things have gotten this bad, and… I know I’m partly to me.”
Kaia nced at Lucien, who gave her a small nod.
“Alright,” she agreed softly.
The Graves Group’s shares would never end up in the hands of an outsider.
Zane had made up his mind—all of his shares would go to
Alden.
As for the real estate and liquid assets, he’d split those evenly with Joanne.
And finally, he nned to set aside an apartment and five million in cash for Ste and Harold–what he saw as the bare minimum of his duty as a father.
Even Joanne, he figured, wouldn’t have much to argue with over that.

Thanks,” Zane said quietly. “I’m meeting her tomorrow to’sign

the divorce papers. I’m done, Lucien. Thepany’s yours now.”
He was ready to retire–for good this time.
“Your healthes first, Zane. Rest up,” Lucien said calmly.
“Let Alden get a couple more years‘ experience overseas. He cane back and take over when he’s ready.”
Privately, Lucien hoped Alden would stay abroad long enough for his own kids to grow up.
But that thought, he kept to himself.
“Sounds good!” Zane’s eyes glistened with tears. “Lucien, Alden was immature before, but he’s growing. Look out for him, alright?”
Lucien chuckled. “We’re family, Zane.”
Allen, listening quietly nearby, said nothing.
For once, he felt like the Graves family might finally be finding
a bit of peace.

At thew firm, when Vanessa heard Kaia was expecting twins,

she just gave her a casual thumbs–up. “Mr. Graves is really something!”
Kaia forced a smile.
Why praise him? She was the one carrying the twins.
Maybe because of Lucien, or maybe Alex Miller just had a rare bout of conscience, he called Kaia into his office that morning.
“Kaia, now that you’re pregnant, we’ve got a new intern starting. How about letting them assist you for now?”
Kaia smiled politely. “Sure. Thanks, Mr. Miller.”
Honestly, she was all for it. An assistant would help lighten her load.
As she stepped out of the office, Kaia spotted the new guy: Jerry Greene. He had a schrly, polite air about him— fair–skinned, clean–cut, and carrying himself with quiet confidence.
“Ms. Domont, hello,” he said politely. “Mr. Miller told me I’ll be assisting you from now on.”
Kaia gave a small, professional smile. “Great. Your desk is right gyer
there. You can grab aputer from HR and get settled.”

As Jerry walked away, Vanessa elbowed Kaia hard.
“Kaia! Nice work! Your assistant’s a total hottie!”

Kaia gave her a look, but Vanessa kept going, whispering like a conspirator. “He looks slim, but I bet he’s ripped under those clothes. Young muscles! I can feel it.”
Kaia pinched her arm. “Snap out of it! You’ll scare him off. Keep talking like that and he’ll report you for harassment.”
Vanessa grinned, clearly not taking it seriously.
She was just teasing since no one else was around to hear.
But the moment Jerry returned, Vanessa mmed up and pretended to be all business.
Kaia had initially wondered if Jerry was some kind of nepotism hire, given Alex had personally mentioned him to Kaia.
But half a day was enough to change her mind.
“Ms. Domont, I’ve organized these files. The missing details for the Nexara Group case are all sorted,” Jerry said.
Looking at the neatly arranged documents on her desk, Kaia yas genuinely pleased.

“Thanks, Jerry. Good work.”
She nced at her watch. “It’s five–thirty. Time to head out.”
Kaia shut down herputer.
Since getting pregnant, she couldn’t pullte nights anymore.
At lunch, she’d popped into the mall next door and couldn’t resist buying some baby clothes. Her brain told her it was too early, but those cute outfits sparked a shopping spree.
Anyway, it was all on Lucien’s credit card, so she wasn’t exactly heartbroken about it.
She ended up with several bags, plus a coat draped over her
arm.
Jerry, ever observant, offered, “Ms. Domont, I’m taking the elevator too. Let me carry those to your car.”
Kaia hated troubling people, but his enthusiasm was hard to turn down.
“Alright, thanks. I appreciate it.”
In the elevator, Kaia wasn’t great at small talk.
“ferry,
Jerry, where do you live?”

Jerry smiled faintly, “Close by, just five subway stops. Commute’s under half an hour.”
“Oh, that’s convenient,” Kaia said, nodding.

So, she was certain Jerry wasn’t some nepotism hire after all.
No nepotism hire would be riding the subway.
The elevator dinged at the ground floor.
Kaia reached for the bags. “I’ll take them. My ride’s here.”
“No trouble, Ms. Domont. I’ll carry them to your car.”
Jerry really seemed to have boundless energy, so helpful that it made Kaia feel a little awkward.
“My car’s over there. I can take them now.”
Jerry nced behind her. “Alright, Ms. Domont. See you
tomorrow.”
Kaia smiled politely, “See you.”
But when she opened the car door and saw the stony–faced man in the back seat, a twinge of guilt hit her.

“Honey, you’re here?” she said.
“Who was that guy?” Lucien asked.
Great. Someone was inexplicably jealous again.
