CHAPTER 34: A FIGHT TO REMEMBER

"So, what are you going to do now?" she asked with a cunning smile on her face.

"That depends on the person in front of me," I answered. "What was your reason for doing this? What benefits could you possibly get by disguising yourself as Allison?"

"That’s simple. I wanted to see if her werewolf brothers are trustworthy. Your sister is a bit ditzy, but she’s a good person. I trust her. Who I don’t trust is you and the other one."

"Your trust hardly means anything to me. You’re like an annoying ant that latched itself onto my flesh and won’t let go."

She chuckled and shook her head.

"Did you forget what I can do to your kind? Don’t be too cocky just because you defeated that monster."

The shapeshifter stared at me coldly as she spoke.

"As long as you don’t have any ill intent toward the other students, then we should be fine," she continued.

To be honest, I wasn’t too keen on trusting a shapeshifter. Her kind wasn’t known for being the most trustworthy. Maybe the smart thing to do here was to kill her. As if sensing my thoughts, shards of pointed crystal began to form in front of the shapeshifter. They were pointed straight at me.

...

On the other side of the campus, Derrick and Isabella’s group took shelter inside a classroom as they tried to evade the beast that was on their tail. Derrick and Isabella made sure the others were safe inside the classroom before coming out to face the demogorgon prowling around for them.

The full moon effect had caused Derrick to be shrouded in yellow aura, and yellow tattoos covered his entire body. A long white tail, similar to that of a wolf, sprouted between his legs, and it was matched with a set of pointed white ears.

Beside him, Isabella didn’t have any visible reaction to the full moon, except for her skin, which was bright pink. She felt as if her body was burning up from the inside as a large amount of sweat trailed down her face. She didn’t have time to worry about her discomfort, though, as there was a monster unlike anything she had been trained to fight before, standing in front of her.

As a servant of the Veylmont clan, she had been trained to kill every supernatural creature that reigned under the sun. But this behemoth in front of her was something different. Something that came from God knows where.

She felt every hair on her body stand on end as she gazed at the demogorgon. While the boy beside her was grinning from ear to ear. The boy who was supposed to be the brother of her alpha. She felt a mixture of emotions inside of her.

The prominent one being not wanting to see Derrick get hurt. Her connection to Liam was one such that his pain was her pain. It annoyed her at first, sharing such a strong emotional connection with someone else. But her heart slowly began to soften as she came to know his family and how much he cared for them.

These few days had been the first time in a long while that she had felt that she was a part of a family. She had found what true familial love was supposed to be, and even though unbeknownst to her, she would sacrifice life and limb for their safety.

For that reason, an anger inside her began to boil as she stared at the demogorgon with her killing intent leaking out. The demogorgon screeched loudly before charging at them at full force.

Derrick’s grin grew wider as he moved to face the beast head on. The two of them clashed in a powerful display of strength. Their attack rippled through the air, sounding like a small explosion had gone off. The building shook from the shock wave that ensued after.

The demogorgon was left flying through the walls of the building. Isabella watched on with a bit of shock and awe. She knew how powerful werewolves get during a full moon, but this was only the first transformation. Such increase in power; how could it be possible? She shuddered to think what they would be like later on.

Isabella rushed forward in that very instant. Her sole purpose was to make sure that beast stayed down for good. When she moved, it felt as if she was significantly slower than she was before, but instead of worrying about that, she took out her daggers and attempted to stab the demogorgon in the heart.

She put her full force into the attack, but the blade stopped before it even broke the beast’s skin

’How?! Why am I so weak?!’

She couldn’t wrap her mind around what was happening to her, but before she could question it, the demogorgon’s needle-like hand reached out and grabbed her. Her eyes widened as she braced herself for what was to come, but just before the demogorgon’s other hand reached her neck, it was stopped in its tracks.

"Keep your hands to yourself, ugly." Derrick grinned as he grabbed the demogorgon by the hand before its fingers tore through Isabella’s neck.

In just one flick of his wrist, he broke the beast’s hand. The demogorgon screeched in agony as Derrick proceeded to lift the 7-foot behemoth into the air and slammed it into the concrete floor below. The floor cracked underneath the weight of such a monster.

Derrick reveled in watching the beast suffer. For him, this was revenge for what transpired at the hospital. For the crime of attacking his family, he wanted the demogorgon to suffer. He didn’t care that it was a different beast, since for him, they were all the same.

Derrick raised his claws into the air to deliver the final blow to the wounded monster, but just then, he felt a sharp pain stab through his side along with the squishy sound of flesh being penetrated. His vision blurred for just a second, and when it settled, he saw a sharp object protruding from his lower body.

No, this wasn’t any object. It was a long needle-like finger belonging to a demogorgon. Isabella’s eyes widened when she saw what was happening, but she was too helpless to stop it. Instead, she was forced to look on in horror as another demogorgon emerged from the shadows and pierced Derrick through the back. What more was that this demogorgon was twice the size of the others.

...

The shapeshifter and I stood at a standstill as I watched her ready her attack. The lethal crystals she produced danced in the air in front of her, ready to strike at any moment. Right now, my eyes were on her neck. Particularly, the artery that was supplying blood to her brain. With just one blow, I could end her life instantly but just as I was about to make my move, I saw something.

Tens of heat signatures surrounded us from all directions. A cold chill worked its way up my back when I realized what those creatures were.

"Demogorgons."

A whole swarm of them had circled around us, ready to attack at any moment.
