What's Wrong With Being An Omega Nanny?
Chapter 50: The Test! 2
CHAPTER 50: THE TEST! 2
Dr Patel’s expression grew serious as he stroked his chin.
"We’re still testing to confirm, but we believe it’s Siren’s Voice."
Jace’s brows furrowed, trying to understand what the doctor had just said.
"Siren’s Voice? What does that mean?"
He demanded an explanation, just as the doctor had with the other Omegas. Even his mother was curious, so she asked the same question.
"Well, it has a powerful effect. People are unconsciously drawn to listen, to obey, or to calm down. We’re still testing his abilities but it can soothe fear, stir desire, or weaken aggression. It’s like a natural charisma, but like the amplified version."
Jace’s eyes widened.
"Ah! I see, that’s why everyone was so quiet during his presentation,"
"What do you mean?" Dr Patel asked. "Explain further,"
"You see, everyone was listening to his presentation at first but they weren’t paying attention because they were doing it to mock him. But when his heat started and his pheromones began to leak, they weren’t just listening; they couldn’t look away from him. It’s like he forced them to do so."
"I see," Dr Patel said. "Elias’s ability is an incredibly potent ability, which is why we need to keep him safe. If word gets out about his Siren’s Voice, he’ll be a target for anyone who wants to control or exploit him. It could be mafias, CEOs and even the government,"
Mrs Voss’s expression darkened.
"We won’t let that happen. We will protect him," she turned to Jace and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Jace, you understand how important this is?"
Jace nodded, his jaw tight. "Yes, mother. I’ll keep him safe. No matter what."
Dr Patel stood, adjusting his coat.
"Good. Now, let’s proceed with the matching test. Jace, follow me. We’ll need a sample from you to compare with Elias’s."
Mrs Voss gave Jace an encouraging smile. "Good luck, sweetheart."
"Thank you, mother," he smiled and turned to the doctor. "Shall we?"
.
Jace followed Dr Patel to a small lab, his heart pounding. The room was filled with medical equipment, screens displaying data, and a technician waiting with a syringe.
"Is that metal going inside me?" He asked and Dr Patel laughed gently. "You’re not scared of needles, are you?"
"Ha! Of course not," Jace rolled up his sleeve, barely flinching as the needle pricked his arm. He lied. He hated needles ever since he was a child but his mind was on Elias, on the test, on what it could mean. He doesn’t mind getting prickled by several needles.
’As long as we’re a match...’ He pushed the thought away, focusing on the moment.
"We’ve gotten your sample. Please, remain in the waiting room and wait for the results,"
"Thank you," he said and pulled his sleeve down. He stretched his hands as he walked back to the room to nest his mother.
.
As he returned to the waiting room, Mrs Voss was on her phone. Her voice was low but she sounded excited.
"Yes, darling. You must order the chef to make tonight’s dinner grand... Because we’re welcoming our omega son-in-law."
Jace stood at the door as his ears perked up. He got a bit excited as he caught the faint sound of his father’s voice on the other end.
"What? Don’t tell me he’s..."
"A dominant omega," Mrs Voss said, her voice firm. "Which means we’ll need to protect him, not just from the Dragos, but from the whole world."
"I see. I’ll order the chefs. But, what if the result is not good?" He asked.
"Then, we’ll have to do the test with Ethan or Leo. If it’s also negative, I’ll have to take him as my son,"
Jace’s chest tightened. The weight of those words settled over him like a heavy blanket. He hoped it wouldn’t be so. It was obvious that his mother was trying to keep him in the Vosses family at all costs by not only getting him matched with his two brothers.
’I won’t let those two get Elias. Not drago, not the whole world,’
He entered the room and sat beside his mother as she disconnected the call after talking to her husband.
"Mom, are you sure we can do this? Keep him safe, I mean?"
She reached over, squeezing his hand.
"We can, and we will. You’re not alone in this, Jace. The Voss family doesn’t back down from a challenge."
"What do you then mean by getting him matched with Ethan and Leo? Do you really have to do that?"
Jace managed a small smile as he asked.
"Of course. If it’s a way to keep him in the family, I’ll do it," she replied.
"I... see. That’s a great idea, mother," he faked a smile as he took out his phone and pretended to be busy. He can’t afford to see Elias together with any of his brothers. All he could do was sit and wait for a positive result.
.
.
An hour later, Elias stirred in the sealed room, his eyes fluttering open. The suppressant injection had worked... his scent was fainter now and his body was no longer warm. But it was just temporary. He blinked, taking in the sterile white walls, the soft beeping of a monitor nearby. His head felt foggy, but the burning ache in his chest was gone.
"Where am I?"
He sat up slowly, his heart racing as he remembered the classroom... the presentation, the stares, the moment his pheromones had betrayed him.
’Shit! Everyone knows.’
Panic surged through him, but the door opened, and Jace stepped inside, his face lighting up with relief.
"You’re awake," Jace said, hurrying to his side. "How do you feel?"
Elias swallowed, his voice hoarse.
"Better. Where are we?"
"The matching centre," Jace said, sitting on the edge of the bed. "They gave you a suppressant to stabilise you. And... they tested you. You’re a dominant omega, Elias."
Elias let out a sigh.
"Dominant omega, huh? I already know what I am, but does it mean I’m locked in here?"
Jace hesitated, glancing at the door as if expecting Dr Patel to walk in.
"It means your pheromones are... special. According to the doctor, you have an ability called Siren’s Voice. When you talk, especially when your pheromones are active, people can’t help but listen. It’s why everyone was so focused on you during the presentation."
"What?" Elias’s face paled. "That’s... that’s too much. I don’t have that kind of ability. Is this a prank?"
Jace reached for his hand, his touch gentle but firm.
"It’s not a prank, Elias. Believe me. However, we need to keep this quiet. If people find out, it could be dangerous."
Elias nodded, his eyes dropping to their joined hands.
"I don’t know, Jace. Viktor’s already after me. If he knows about this..."
"He won’t," Jace said fiercely. "I won’t let him near you. And we’re doing the matching test right now. If we’re compatible, it’ll give us a legal shield. He can’t touch you if we’re matched."
Elias’s cheeks flushed, and he pulled his hand back, his voice soft.
"Why are you doing all this for me? You barely know me."
Jace’s expression softened, a hint of vulnerability in his eyes. He pulled his hand to his mouth and secretly kissed it.
"I know enough. You’re kind, you’re smart, and you don’t give up, even when things get hard. I... I care about you, Elias. More than I probably should."
Elias’s heart skipped, and he looked away, his throat tight.
"I don’t know what to say to that."
"You don’t have to say anything," Jace said, his voice gentle. "Just let me be here for you. That’s all I’m asking."
Elias’s lips trembled into a smile as he tried to think of Viktor. Almost. But he pushed him out of his thoughts. Nothing was going on between them after all. He nodded, his eyes stinging.
"Okay. Thank you."
They sat in silence for a moment, with no one saying anything. A lot of things have already happened today, but the idea of becoming a dominant Omega is what got him even more anxious. So does the result for the matching test.
"What would you do if the result was low?" Jace asked.
"I... I have no idea. Am I supposed to do anything? I’m thinking of starting a job or..."
"That won’t be possible," Dr Patel returned, holding a tablet. "The matching results are ready," he said, his tone neutral. "Would you like to see them now?"
Jace glanced at Elias, who nodded hesitantly. "Yeah," Jace said, his voice steady but his hands trembling slightly. "Let’s see them."
"Hold on, before we see the results, what do you mean by... ’That won’t be possible?’" Elias asked.
"We’ll discuss in private, Mr Elias Kane," he said with a smile as he handed the tablet to Jace. Jace’s eyes scanned the screen, his breath catching. Elias leaned closer, his voice barely a whisper. "What does it say?"
