When 'God' Decides To Start Over
Chapter 571 - 241 Escape_3
CHAPTER 571: CHAPTER 241 ESCAPE_3
This time, he proceeded with caution, not rushing in directly as before.
Though the mace was somewhat strange, Li Xiu’s speed was too slow. Bai Wanli didn’t need to confront the Spiritual Mace’s attack head-on; he could just eliminate Li Xiu directly.
As Bai Wanli was about to enter the main hall, he suddenly heard a roar akin to a bull or lion erupt from within the hall.
The roar resonated through the entire hall, making it hum and ring as if the eardrums were about to shatter.
Bai Wanli’s expression changed slightly, and he couldn’t help but pause his steps.
He had naturally heard this roar before, but he never imagined it would emanate from this palace.
Li Xiu’s gaze turned to the source of the sound, which was the back wall facing the hall’s entrance.
That wall, like all the architecture, was carved from white jade, with strange relief carvings on it.
The motifs in the reliefs were neither the usual patterns of wind, cloud, thunder, and lightning, nor rare birds and exotic beasts, but rather some peculiar symbols.
The reason Li Xiu chose this area was not simply at random.
Upon hearing the roar before, he had already assessed its approximate location. While fleeing for his life, he ran into this building complex, hoping not only to use the buildings as cover but also assuming Bai Wanli might hesitate and not charge in recklessly.
Even if Bai Wanli dared to come in, perhaps the demon spirits here could offer Li Xiu a slim chance of survival.
Unexpectedly, Bai Wanli boldly charged in, yet there was no trace of demon spirits here.
Li Xiu had abandoned his previous plan, not expecting that the palace where he sought refuge was actually the source of the roar.
Glancing at the symbols on the wall, Li Xiu recognized them as the script of the Demon Kingdom. Without hesitation, he leaped up, striking the jade wall with his Spiritual Mace.
The Spiritual Mace was indeed miraculous. The jade walls of Celestial City, difficult even for Bai Wanli, who was Light Base level, to damage, were punched through right away under the mace’s blow. The jade wall, only a few centimeters thick, revealed nothing but darkness inside through the breach.
Seizing the moment before Bai Wanli outside could react, Li Xiu swiftly struck the jade wall again and again.
After several strikes, a hole the size of a bucket had been smashed through.
Bai Wanli realized what was happening and launched a Demon-Slaying Seal at Li Xiu. The massive light-imbued palm print almost enveloped Li Xiu’s entire body.
With nowhere to hide, Li Xiu made a sharp dive, squeezing through the hole.
The Demon-Slaying Seal crashed against the jade wall, causing only a vibration without the destruction the Spiritual Mace had dealt it.
Bai Wanli rushed to the hole, about to peer inside when the Spiritual Mace suddenly thrust out. Bai Wanli dodged quickly, the mace scraping past his face, startling him into a cold sweat.
He hadn’t anticipated Li Xiu being so cunning, launching an ambush from the entrance immediately upon entering instead of trying to flee.
Bai Wanli took two steps back, careful not to approach the hole too closely again. Standing outside, all he could see was the pitch darkness inside, rendering visibility impossible.
Bai Wanli’s eyes narrowed, and a Demon Spirit Ring on his finger transformed into a fiery bird ablaze with Light Flame, flying towards the hole.
As the firebird drew near the entrance, the Spiritual Mace appeared again, piercing through the firebird in a single strike, an S-ranked Radiant Demon Spirit unable to withstand even one blow.
Bai Wanli frowned. Li Xiu was even harder to kill than he imagined, despite apparently having the upper hand, he just couldn’t finish him off.
Li Xiu stood against the wall, observing the darkness, and thanks to wearing the Dark Mirror and his natural talents and skills, seeing in the dark wasn’t an issue for him.
Yet here, he still felt engulfed in darkness, only vaguely discerning some shadows.
Like a starless, moonless cloudy night, Li Xiu could just barely make out a massive shadow inside, its outline unclear, but he could hear the sound of breathing in the darkness.
"Caught between a wolf and a tiger, it seems today my luck’s run out," Li Xiu sighed inwardly.
But after waiting a while, the shadow didn’t attack him; it merely seemed to keep watching him.
Li Xiu didn’t feel relieved by this because the jade wall he smashed bore clear inscriptions stating this place held a terrifying, malevolent demon spirit in check, warning never to break the seal.
Li Xiu initially planned to break the seal to let the vicious demon spirit loose, hoping to use the chaos to escape.
Unfortunately, the plan didn’t succeed, instead forcing him inside, making the situation quite dire.
"Li Xiu, just hide in there. Let’s see how long you can last. I’ll go check if Wan Chaoxin is dead, and you enjoy your last moments here." Bai Wanli said from outside, before leaving the hall, appearing to have really gone.
Li Xiu naturally didn’t believe him and had no intention of seizing the opportunity to rush out.
With a thought, Li Xiu summoned Demigod Shana, using its radiance to illuminate this dark space.
By Demigod Shana’s light, Li Xiu clearly saw this place was another grand hall, even larger than the previous one.
There wasn’t much inside, just a few pillars, and from the jade wall in the hall emerged a Jade Linked Rings chain.
The so-called Jade Linked Rings were very similar to iron chains. However, while iron chains could be forged with each ring having an opening to link together and weld shut, the jade rings couldn’t be assembled this way and had to be carved directly as one piece.
This Jade Linked Rings chain was thicker than a human arm, one side attached to the jade wall, and the other linked to a collar around a demon spirit’s neck.
The demon spirit’s eyes were staring straight at Li Xiu.
