CHAPTER 137: CHAPTER 137: IS IT LOVE OR OBSESSION? (7)
Sheng Jianan’s expression changed slightly, no longer having that awkward stinky *** look. His eyes flashed, his handsome brows furrowed slightly: "Why?"
Zhou Chengze smiled faintly: "There’s a new project opening over there, and they need someone to take charge. Anyway, I’m just idling around, so I might as well go and have a look, save my old man from accusing me of being lazy every day."
Zhou Chengze’s tone was very normal, as unserious as always, but the hand he had resting on his knee unconsciously tightened a bit. Some words couldn’t be said aloud, and some things must not be done.
When it came to having feelings for Tang Yanqi, Zhou Chengze knew clearly that this must become the deepest secret in his heart, hidden from the light and unknown to others. He liked Tang Yanqi, though he couldn’t say why, but he knew that he hadn’t fallen so deeply for her - not to the point of pledges etched in stone. Compared to Tang Yanqi, Zhou Chengze’s ultimate choice was still the brotherly bond between him and Sheng Jianan.
Sheng Jianan’s questioning made him feel a bit guilty and nervous, but Sheng Jianan’s focus was obviously different from Zhou Chengze’s. After a brief silence of a few seconds, Sheng Jianan spoke up: "Getting pushed into marriage again? Running off to D City, going big?"
Zhou Chengze relaxed his grip, then waved dramatically: "Of course! As they say, to die under a peony is an admirable death. Why would this young master ignore the whole field of flowers for a single bloom? That’s too cruel."
Sheng Jianan shot Zhou Chengze a disdainful look. Having grown up together, Zhou Chengze had always been a playboy type, and in everyone else’s eyes, he was just that. But Sheng Jianan knew that this guy was actually quite similar to himself. There could be women around him, but he would never get involved with any of them. The difference was that Zhou Chengze liked to talk nonsense, always up for some banter.
Turning his gaze back to his phone, Sheng Jianan suddenly thought of something and a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth: "Alright then, let’s meet up tonight."
"Deal!"
Zhou Chengze didn’t stay much longer in Sheng Jianan’s office and left soon after. Qiao Zi came in to deliver lunch, but Sheng Jianan had little appetite. After a couple of bites, he glanced again at his phone, his lips pressing into a thin line. Finally, unable to resist, he picked it up and called Tang Yanqi.
After a couple of silent seconds, the phone connected, and it was no longer the cold "The number you have dialed is currently switched off." Sheng Jianan’s brow relaxed slightly.
It rang a few times before someone answered, and before Sheng Jianan could say anything, there was a burst of chatter: "Hello, this is Tang Yanqi’s phone. She’s in the bathroom right now. If it’s urgent, please hold on. If not, please call back later, thank you."
The youthful and vibrant female voice sounded much more lively than Tang Yanqi’s, but subconsciously, a comparison flitted through Sheng Jianan’s mind, one he hadn’t noticed himself. Hmm, he still preferred that woman’s voice. It wasn’t noisy; this one, too loud!
"Hello?"
Receiving no response from his side, the voice on the other end repeated "Hello?" which prompted Sheng Jianan to clear his throat and lower his voice: "Who are you?"
"Clang."
Sheng Jianan didn’t receive any answer; instead, he heard this sound, likely the phone dropping to the ground.
Then he faintly heard someone over there say: "Tangtang, it’s a call from a bad guy, bad guy call, Tangtang, come out quickly."
