CHAPTER 407: CHAPTER 407: I DON’T KNOW HOW TO CHEER PEOPLE UP, BUT I WANT TO CHEER YOU UP (PART 7)
The small interactions between the two didn’t draw much attention from others, but they didn’t escape Shen Yao’s eyes.
Those gentle and calm eyes now showed a trace of coldness, but it quickly disappeared in endless gentleness, as if nothing had happened or been seen.
Mrs. Sheng and Mr. Sheng had gone out to attend a friend’s birthday party and weren’t home, so at noon, only the four young people accompanied Mr. Sheng.
Shen Yao helped the servant set the table and preemptively served Mr. Sheng a bowl of soup: "Grandpa, your soup."
Mr. Sheng received it with a smile: "Thank you, Yaoyao, sit down quickly."
The elderly man was growing weaker and coughed several times during the meal. Although Mr. Sheng still looked mentally vigorous, he was inevitably being tormented by illness.
Having taken just a few bites of lunch, the old man left the table with the help of a servant: "I’m getting old and useless. Jiyan, I won’t keep you company, feel free to do as you please."
With Mr. Sheng gone, the atmosphere at the dining table suddenly chilled. Tang Yanqi noticed that there was almost no interaction, not even eye contact, between Sheng Jianan and Shen Jiyan.
But they knew each other, right?
Even if they’re not childhood friends like Zhou Chengze and Xu Muyun, people who know each other shouldn’t be like this.
Though she found it strange, Tang Yanqi didn’t ask further.
After the meal, Shen Jiyan and Shen Yao took their leave, and only then did Sheng Jianan speak to them: "Take care, no need to see you off."
After Shen Jiyan and Shen Yao’s car left, Tang Yanqi finally voiced her curiosity: "Do you have a grudge with Mr. Shen?"
Sheng Jianan glanced sideways at her and suddenly grabbed Tang Yanqi’s wrist, pulling her behind the big tree in the yard, placing his hands on either side of her head against the trunk.
His dark eyes squinted: "Mrs. Sheng, I’ve heard there are many men, do you want to look at all of them?"
Tang Yanqi: "..."
Hey, hey, she was just joking, isn’t this too much?
She pushed Sheng Jianan’s chest with her hands: "I was joking, you... mmm..."
Her lips were sealed by him; Sheng Jianan’s kiss was fierce, as if he wanted to swallow her whole.
After a long while, Sheng Jianan finally let her go, his forehead still resting against hers: "If you dare look at other men again, I’ll lock you up."
His tone was sinister yet curiously childish with a hint of pettiness.
Tang Yanqi couldn’t help but laugh, boldly lifting her head: "Mr. Sheng, are you jealous? Or just not confident?"
"Not confident? Ha... What a joke."
"So, you’re jealous?"
"..."
Not responding to Tang Yanqi’s question, Sheng Jianan straightened up, turned, and began to walk back haughtily. Tang Yanqi hurried to catch up, watching his awkward expression, she was amused.
Sheng Jianan didn’t leave; he waited until Mr. Sheng finished his nap, then played two games of chess with the old man and stayed for dinner before finally leaving.
As they reached the old house’s entrance, Sheng Jianan glanced back at the lights inside the house, and the smile on his face gradually faded, replaced by a frown.
Tang Yanqi looked up at him, noticing that from noon till afternoon, he had maintained a nonchalant demeanor, speaking to the elderly with his usual irreverent manner.
But now, she could clearly feel the loneliness and tension in Sheng Jianan’s expression.
Mr. Sheng’s health had been declining day by day; although everyone was mentally prepared for this, watching the elderly gradually deteriorate was still heart-wrenching.
