SERAPHINA

    “Stay with me.”

I gasped as he buried his face in my neck, his lips brushing against my ski

“What-what are you doing?” I stammered, staggering back as his borly leaner heavily against mine. His breath scorched my skin, hands grasped at my waist like I was the fast tether keeping him from fating “Hey. stop that! Or I will kick you!” I growled, feeling his weight press info mepletely trapping me between him and the cold stone wall.

“So warm,” he murmured, his body burning against mine.

My heart thundered. Again with the warmth? My perfume should’ve masked my scent, still he continued to act like this. I guess the human part could be deceived but the wolf could always sense the opposite gender even if it was notpletely sure and confused.

“Hey, you are burning up. Get off me!” I coldly growled, pushing him away. “I am not your personal heater of something warm that you can cling to during your rut!”

Ryker’s low chuckle rumbled through his chest. His lips hovered just above my skin. “Don’t treat me like some other Alpha who can go into rut at any time. This is the first time this has happened and it is all because of you.”

I was taken back, “Because of me?” I red down at him unamused, “Has the rut gotten into your brain? How could I trigger your rut?!”

“It’s becasue II followed you,” he murmured, his voice hoarse, nearly broken with restraint.

“What?!” I looked at him in disbelief, “So you are telling me that you stalked me and you went into your rut because of it?” that did not make any sense but he still nodded.

“Yeah, so take responsibility. If not as a heater then be my pillow.”

    My patience snapped.

    The arrogance of this Alpha!

1 pushed him away with all my strength and grabbed him by his cor. “I really admire your guts. First you stalked me and then med me for your rut?!”‘My fingers balled into his cor, dragging him slightly off me. “And now you want to snuggle? And what, make me into your pillow?” I red at him.

He grinned, deliriously amused. Sweat beaded on his brow. His pupils were blown wide, body trembling with the effort of not giving in. The scent of desperation, heat, and barely restrained hunger rolled off him in waves. It was as if his wolf was about to take control over and pounce on me.

He just barely held onto the edge of control like it was thest thing he owned.

“Okay,” he rasped, raising a shaky hand, palm out. “I am sorry. Not as a pillow. I swear. Just hold my hand? Your warmth is really calming me,” he whispered, his voice broken and hand hot and shaking.

I stared at it in pure surprise this time. Ryker Wraithe actually apologized for being yful and begged for help.

I looked at his flushed cheeks, sweaty face and burning state. If it was another wolf they would have shifted into their wolves long ago to survive the rut but his self control was beyond what I had seen in other male wolves.

“No?” he whispered, his eyes never wavering from mine.

I finally blinked and looked at his hand. Earlier he saved me from that wolf in rut. He had not been arrogant

like before but had actually made a request.

With a soft exhale, I slid my fingers into his. “Fine, you helped me and now I am helping you. We are even

His shoulders dropped as if that simple contact gave him relief.

“You can hold my hand,” I whispered, “But I’m not staying here. I can’t be in a room soaked in rut. It’s suffocating.”

“Good,” Ryker muttered, eyes fluttering half-shut, “I hate sharing a room with other men anyway. I will go to mine.”

Saying that he turned around, his hand holding mine but his knees buckled slightly. Subconsciously, I reached out to catch his arm before he facented into the corridor wall.

“You’re barely standing,” I looked up to him.

    He looked a little ashamed.

“I’m fine,” he lied, wincing as another tremor rippled through his body, “I just… need to get to my room. I hate to smell other wolves rut,” he growled, the disguise so obvious in his eyes that made me realize something.

He had been raised in an environment with no male wolves around when they were in rut. That was kind of strange.

Our shadows stretched and tangled across the walls as we moved slowly, awkwardly, my hand still tangled in Ryker’s. Thankfully the moonlight was slipping in. Ryker leaned on me more than I expected, his body dangerously hot, heart hammering too fast.

And mine… mine wasn’t any better.

I was too aware of how tall he was beside me. How his rough breathing filled the silence. How this was the closest I’d ever been to another man who wasn’t Ronan.

“I am not allowed to enter the hierarchy room corridor,” I pointed out to him.

“I will take care of it if someone causes trouble.”

My head snapped at him, “Why always go for violence? Don’t do anything to anyone for something small!”

He met my eyes for a moment and stated, “Okay.”

My heart started running wildly in my chest at his sudden obedience from this dominating Alpha. Was it the side effect of rut?

“What’s with you? No ring, shooting threats from his gaze, or acting ass like always?” I looked at him doubtfully.

He chuckled so softly that I could not help but look at him twice. Pulling away from my hold, he pushed me softly into the hallway of the hierarchy rooms and caged me between his chest and the cold wall. “I just realized that to win the heart of a strong guy like you, I have to be obedient and submissive.”

    My eyes widened slowly, “What?”

“I am saying…” He looked at my lips and then back to my eyes, “I am chasing your heart and want to make you mine.”
