When The Moon Hides Her Crown
THE ALPHA’S DAUGHTER 148
SERAPHINA
On the tenth day, the Alpha instructor appeared in the morning not with the usual brutal training or punishing drills, but with something entirely unexpected. His announcement left us all bewildered.
“Gather all of your belongings and hand them to the dormitory assistant,” he ordered, his voice clipped andmanding.
Immediately, everyone scrambled to obey, though murmurs rippled across the group.
“Are we finally leaving this damn forest?” one whispered eagerly.
“I think so!” another replied.
“Fuck yes! I can’t wait to sink into my cozy bed and eat something that isn’t crawling or half raw!”
I had little to pack, just another set of clothes and a few necessary items I’d stashed in the branch of a tree. Slipping them into the bag the dormitory assistant provided, I handed it over like everyone else.
i“/iSomething seems off,” Phina said in my mind, “This brutal training, taking away our belongings but not talking about returning to the dormitory or Academy.”
I nodded in response. I believe that I was not the only one who noticed that. My eyes swept over Asher, Finn, Ryker and Ronan once.
When the assistant left, the instructor continued, his tone sharp.
“Today, you will hunt your own meal.”
A collective grin spread across the Alphas‘ faces, hunger sparking in their eyes.
“Yes! I’ll hunt a damn elephant if I have to!” someone shouted.
Starvation had turned us feral. Alphas required more food than ordinary wolves, yet over thest few days, what we’d been given amounted to little more than scraps, a cruel tease for our ravenous bodies.
The instructor’s lips quirked with amusement. “Hunt and eat whatever you wish. Just remember, this forest is more dangerous than you can imagine. No

one hunts alone. Pair up.”
At once, everyone scattered into pairs, some joining their closest friends, others grabbing whoever was avable. I, however, remained still, scanning who was left. My stomach tightened when I realized only two stood without partners. Ryker and Ronan.
My heart plummeted.
Both of them. Both watching me.
I turned away at once, heat rising in my chest. I would rather face the beasts of this forest alone than be forced to pair with either of them.
But in looking away, I noticed someone else, Asher. He was striding silently into the forest, alone, as though the rules meant nothing to him. Something about the way he moved made unease coil in my gut. He was wrong. Off. Dangerous in a way I couldn’t name. Thankfully, the instructor’s sharp eyes didn’t catch him.
Soon, pairs began to vanish into the shadows of the trees. The instructor’s voice rang again. “Alpha Cassius, paired with Alpha Seth. He has no partner.”
I froze. My gaze darted to Cassius at the edge. I had nearly forgotten him. Since Reed’s expulsion, he had been alone, silent, brooding, and unsettlingly withdrawn. He hadn’t spoken much or tried to mingle. Now, I was ordered to hunt with him?
My skin crawled at the thought, but an order from an instructor wasn’t one I could refusei. /iMy legs refused to move, every instinct screaming against it.
Then a broad shoulder blocked my view, followed by a hard chest and a voice that made me blink in disbelief.
“Seth Darven, let’s go.”
I snapped my head up. “Finn?”
It was the first time he had spoken to me in ten long days.
“Let’s go,” he repeated/gesturing to the forest before striding forward with quiet confidence.
My gaze, unwilling, flickered back to where Ryker and Ronan lingered, still watching. Their eyes clung to me like a weight, but I tore myself away and

followed Finn into the trees. Of all the choices, Finn was the safest, mostfortable option.
Or so I thought.
Walking beside him, I found myself stealing nces at his sharp profile. His face, his jawline, the way his gaze swept the trees with quiet focus, he was calm yet alert. Too calm. He hadn’t spoken since that one word.
“Wait,” he murmured suddenly, extending an arm across me to halt my steps. His hand brushed against my chest, too high, too firm, right across my breasts.
I jerked back instantly, heat ring up my neck. His eyes flickered ito /ime, and for the briefest moment, I feared he had noticed something unusual in my form. Though he said nothing, his expression remained unreadable.
“What is it?” I asked, forcing steadiness into my voice.
His gaze shifted past me, his wolf glinting in his eyes. “A bear,” he murmured, pointing toward the trees, “with cub,” he gestured to the marks on the ground.
The moment I focused, I sensed it too. The heavy musk, the restless shuffle of something massive nearby.
“Then we shouldn’t disturb them. Let’s take another path,” I whispered.
He nodded, and together we slipped silently away. This route, however, was treacherous. The forest floor was gnarled with exposed roots, and every step carried the weight of distant predators circling on the edges of my awareness. The instructor had not exaggerated, the forest pulsed with danger.
My stomach wed with hunger, and the gnawing ache inside me begged for prey. I wanted, no needed, ito /icatch something soon.
That’s when a shadow flickered through the trees above, drawing my gaze upward. My foot caught on a root, and my ankle twisted violently. I pitched forward with a gasp.
“Seth!” Finn’s voice rang out sharply as his hand shot out, seizing my arm before my face could m into the earth.
Breathless, I looked up at him. “Thanks…”
Only the word died in my throat. His face was inches from mine, his sharp

eyes locked onto mine with unnerving intensity.
“Are you okay?” he whispered, his breath brushing warm against my cheek.
He steadied me, one arm firm around my waist. He didn’t let go. The proximity, the heat of his body, sent my heart careening wildly.
“I–I’m fine,” I managed, trying to step back. Instead of retreating, he leaned closer, shrinking the space between us to a single, fragile inch.
“Finn, what are you…” I pressed a hand to his chest, panic, fluttering inside me, while his hand rose to my head.
“You’ve got something in your hair,” he murmured softly, fingers brushing through the strands. He held up a single leaf between his fingers.
I froze, breath caught. He was… just removing a leaf?
“Ah…thanks,” I stammered, forcing a weak smile. My hand swept nervously over my hair as if to ensure nothing else was stuck.
He chuckled low in his throat. “Let me help you.”
My hand halted. I tilted my head up at him. He still hadn’t moved away. He was far too close. Were Alphas always thisfortable with another man’s body, or was Finn different?
“I thought you were angry with me,” I whispered, testing the waters.
His gaze softened as it dropped to my face. “I could never be angry with you,” he replied, his ivoice /ias soft as velvet.
“Then why didn’t iyou /ispeak to me for thest ten days? Who does that?”
“A jealous man,” he said simply.
My eyes widened. “What?”
Before I could process, his fingers slid from my hair down to my cheek, tracing lightly along my skin as he leaned in closer. His eyes burned into mine with a strange, heated tenderness.
“I was jealous when you were surrounded by so many men,” he murmured, lips curving with the faintest smile. “I did not want to show you this side of me but now…I can’t help it.”
