Chapter 47 No Way To Turn Back

SERAPHINA

Lily was silent for a long time as she listened to me. Then her voice was soft but bsharp /bas a dagger. “Sera is the Alpha who is suspicious of you the same one who triggered your heat?”

I froze.

“No.” I said immediately. Too fast. Too defensively.

Lily narrowed her eyes. “Are you sure! bYou /bknow heat is directly connected to a she wolf’s emotions and bthat /bis ny nine percent triggered by a male that we are attracted to. I already told you that before. Of course, a girl like byou /bthat no male had not been able to attract bso /bfar is attracted to an Alpha here is a huge danger_

“I told you bI /bbam /bnot.” I sharply cut her off. “How could he trigger my heat when I can’t even pick up his scent due bto /bmy own perfume.” I reasoned.

But bthe /bbheat /bsimmering under my skin told a different story.

A sh of memory hit me–the faint scent under that cologne, dark and maic, pulling me under. The way my pulse raced when he was near. The way my control shattered when he touched my forehead or check

I clenched my fists. No. It wasn’t him. It couldn’t be him. He could not trigger my heat. bAnd /bwhy the hell he would? Why only

him?

I forced the words out. “It was Dante. He tampered with the cologne using some kind of berry to mess with me. That’s bwhat /btriggered my heat.

Lily tilted her head, curious. “Dante? Who’s that?”

“Another jerk Alpha like bRonan/bb,/bb” /bI muttered. Thanks to himb, /bI was babout /bto be expelled, med for in–fighting and violence”

“What an bevil /bact to perpetrate,” Lily frowned. “What’s his bfull /bbname/b?”

“bAlpha /bDante ckwood,” I answered casually.

Lily went still. “ckwoodb?” /b

“What’s wrongb?/bb” /bbI /braised an eyebrow.

Her expression darkerled with something close to brm/b. “Sera, that’s not bjust /bbany /bbname/b. If he is the heir from the ckwood family then hees from The Bloodfall Pack, one of the most powerful parks in the East brealm/bb. /bTheir wolves are feared by everyone and the heirs bare /bseen as the biggest threat to bthe /bwerewolf realm. Especially Dante ckwood-

I frowned, “bWhy/b?”

“Because his mother’s side they always made people buneasy/b!

I blinked. “What do you mean?”

“No one knows bmuch /babout her, just whispers. bThat /bshe was once part of something bdark/bb. /bSome say she was a shadow–walker. Others say she bvanished /bafter bgiving /bbbirth /bto bhim/bb. /bbThe /bcouncil never btalks /bbabout /bher openly”

I felt a chill ripple down any spine. I bknew /bDante had secrets, but this… bthis /bbwas /bmore bthan /bI bexpected/b.

He always suuled like he had a de hidden bbehind /bhis bback/bb. /bBut now that de felt real

Lily kept watching me, as if expecting me to connect the dots. But my thoughts drifted, spiraling

Dante bHis /bobsession bwith /bbkicking /bme out of the Academy. His bhatred/b. And of bcourse /bhis bst /bthreat. Then there was..his ryes his bwolf /bwatching me during the btrial/bb. /bhis silent states it bwas /bsomething

A sudden bang mmed against the door.

Both Lily and I jumped out of our bskins /bin surprise,

My heart leapt into my throat as I stared at the door. No one bused /bthis room so no one bshould /bhavee this way unless I held my breath tightly, realizing bthat /bsomeone bhad /bbeen watching this whole time.

“Who is itb?/b” Lily quickly got up band /brushed beside me as we stared at the door.

Another bang louder. Heavier. Something pounded against the door like a battering bram/b.

“They’re breaking in. Lily hissed.

My heartbeat quickened and I quickly blooked /baround.

“bWindow/b, Now.” I bsaid/b, shoving her toward the back. “bDon’t /bbget /bbcaught/b.”

“Sera

“Go! We can’t be seen together. bYou /bknow what’ll happen.”

Another blow shook the entire frame.

bLily /bdidn’t argue again. She nodded once and rushed to the window, slipping out just as the door burst open, mming against the wall with a deafening crash.

My eyes snapped to the door where Dante stood.

His eyes scanned the room like a hawk. He caught the faintest glimpse of someone escaping through the shadows of the windowb. /b

He smiled. “Having a secret meeting, huh?

He started walking towards the window.

I moved.

Before bhe /bcould take a step forward, I was in his bway/bb. /bbSolid/b. Unmoving.

“Dont,” I said, voice low.

“So desperate. You really have a lot of secrets, huh?” He tried to sidestep. I blocked him again.

His jaw tensed. “Who was that?” his eyes darkened.

“None of your business.”

“I think it is-

“No, it’s bnot/b,” I bsaid /bbsharply/b, and then–bbefore /bI could think better of itb–/bb1 /bshoved him hard bagainst /bthe wall seeing as Lily was bnot /bin her disguise band /bwe both could be exposed if Dante saw her. His back hit it with a dull thud

He bwas /bbtaken /bbaback /bby my sudden move but I did not care. I had to bstop /bhim or I waspletely fucked bat /bthis point.

I bcaged /blum ini, pressing my bhands /bto the wall on either side of his shoulders, any body angled dangerously close to his. Too

cluse

“If you’re so desperate to chase someone.“I whispered, my breath brushing his bcheck/b, “maybe you bshould /bstart bchasing /byour bsannty /bfirst. I’m not your game. bAnd /bthis bisn’t /byour den”

His eyes bchanged/b, locked with mine,

I bcould /bfeel the shift in him. The bcrack /bin bhis /bmask or whatever it was. The sudden bre /bof heat bthat /bsparked behind his eyes blike /bwildfire. His scent spiked, rich and feral

Then I realised how dangerous the situation I bwas /bin was. bBut /bI casually put my hands down to free him from the cage and took a step back just enough to make sure he couldn’t look away

Lily was goneb, /bprobably outside of the Academy’snds and bhe /bwas surprised enough to not chase after her.

“Don’t act like a rogue, just to tell me bhow /bmuch you bhate /bme. I murmured, beach /bsyble slow. “Or I’ll remind too.”

you I hate you

bSaying /bthat I tore my gaze from his unblinking one.

I grabbed the mattress and walked through the busted door, not sparing him another nce. Not until I was safely out of sight. Out of the room.

And as I walked down the corridor, I bfinally /blet out a breath that I bhad /bnot realised I had been holding behind the calm facade. And my heart…it was drumming in my chest. But thankfully things had not gone wrong.

At least that’s what I thought. But unknown to me back in the room, Dante had his head lowered, the half of his face bin /bshadow before the corner of his lips curled up and a smallugh escaped his lips.

Dark. Unsteady. Almost hungry.

He slid down on the ground, against the wall, biting his lip.

“You should not have gotten that close, Dante murmured bto /bhimself, eyes gleaming, ears flushed red, his wolf wing just bbeneath /bthe surface.

He grinned, wide and wicked as his head tipped back against the wall.

“Now there’s no way to turn back…”
