When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster
Chapter 20: Not Giving Her a Chance
CHAPTER 20: CHAPTER 20: NOT GIVING HER A CHANCE
After a while, Adrian Lancaster sat back in his office chair, distinguished and calm, steady yet unassuming.
Ivy Jennings followed up, handing over a document with both hands, "President, this is the financial report for last quarter."
"Is Dustin Shepherd’s hand getting better?" Adrian Lancaster took the report, his long fingers distinct and clear.
Concerned, he said, "If it’s not, let him rest a few more days. You’ll have to work a bit harder then."
"I spoke with him over the phone this morning. He said he would return to work tomorrow. It shouldn’t be a big deal."
"Mm." The man nodded, continuing to look at the report, "Once he’s back, your work will be much easier."
Ivy Jennings nodded, said nothing, and left after bowing.
Soon, she brought over a cup of coffee for him, gently setting it down before leaving again.
On the 11th floor, in the large office of the design room.
Faye Turner reviewed the related materials of the "A Moment in Eternity" series once more. She felt quite interested, perhaps she could really showcase her skills.
Though she hadn’t designed jewelry, she had designed clothing; design is essentially connected.
All require integrating the designer’s own emotions; only emotion-filled things have soul.
Just as she was brimming with enthusiasm and wanted to give it a try, Nancy Jennings handed her a thick pile of documents, "Faye, please help make three copies."
Looking at the thick documents Nancy casually tossed on her desk, they almost slipped off. Fortunately, she quickly caught them. Must be thousands of pages!
Nancy left without turning back, leaving Faye stunned!
She glanced around confusedly; does the design department not have assistants?
Why is she being asked to do such tasks?
But she felt as a newcomer she should adapt to workplace rules, so Faye went about the task without complaint, taking her a whole hour.
When she handed the copied materials to Nancy Jennings’ office, "Director Jennings, it’s done!" Just as she was about to leave.
"Wait, Faye!" Nancy called out to her.
The girl turned her eyes, smiling as she asked, "Director Jennings, is there anything else you need?"
"The information about the ’A Moment in Eternity’ series was given to you just to understand, not for you to participate in designing."
"Why?" The girl furrowed her brows, quickly heading to the desk, "I am a designer too!"
Nancy focused her gaze on her, the expression seemed as if she had heard a joke. She took a sip of water from her cup, scrutinizing Faye, "Are you a designer? So do you have works? Have you won any awards? Do you have any historical achievements?"
This string of questions left her speechless.
Just as Faye was gathering words in her mind, wanting to say something for herself, Nancy spoke again, "You’re still in the internship period. So start with menial tasks, and take some time to polish yourself."
The internship period is two months, yet this series needs to be submitted within a month! She doesn’t want to miss out.
"Director Jennings, I..."
"Go out."
"Nancy..."
"Go out!"
Nancy spoke again with a cold and heavy tone, interrupting her once more.
At this moment, the office phone rang, Nancy started answering the call, leaving Faye no choice but to leave.
She felt somewhat dejected and returned to her workstation, feeling quite upset.
Soon, the ringing phone brought back her thoughts. When she checked the display, it turned out to be Grandpa Lancaster.
So she composed herself, quickly stood up, and found an empty corner to press the answer key.
"Hello, Grandpa." The girl’s voice was soft and sweet.
"Faye, about what I mentioned to you before, have you thought it over?" The old man asked kindly, "When can we arrange for both families to meet?"
She knew she couldn’t escape from this matter, so she thought for a moment and said to the elderly man, "Saturday then, Adrian has just taken office recently, he should be quite busy."
