CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 31: THE MOTHER-IN-LAW’S STRANGE ATTITUDE

Mr. Kerr drove the car closer and closer to the old mansion.

This was a villa nestled beside the mountain and water, with European castle-style architecture. The immense yard had beautiful landscapes, lush green lawns, and several towering trees.

As the car entered through the gate, Faye Turner looked out at the scenery and felt a sense of tranquility and solemnity.

The Lamborghini stopped steadily in front of the villa.

The car door opened. Adrian Lancaster and Faye Turner got out. It was far from the city’s hustle and bustle, green and silent, with fresh air—an ideal place for retirement.

Grandfather greeted them with a dragon-headed cane and a warm smile, "The kids are back? That’s great!"

Adrian Lancaster proactively took Faye Turner’s hand, transmitting warmth through his palm, causing a slight stir in Faye’s chest as she turned to look at him.

The man’s handsome face was gentle, his fringe slightly curled; she knew he was doing it for Grandpa to see.

The girl snapped back to reality, looking at the approaching elder, "Hello, Grandpa."

"Grandpa."

"Good, good, it’s nice you are back, come in! It’s getting windy outside!" Especially seeing their fingers interlocked, the elder was overjoyed.

Adrian Lancaster released her hand, staying on the elder’s left side. Faye Turner took Grandpa’s right arm naturally, making small talk as they walked inside.

The villa was impressive and immensely beautiful. Faye couldn’t gauge its worth, but suddenly she understood why so many women wanted to marry into a wealthy family.

Behind the main villa, less than 100 meters away, there was a shorter three-story building.

When Nanny Warren saw the Lamborghini stop, she turned hastily towards the small building behind the main villa.

The elder led the children into the living room, and the servants respectfully saluted Adrian Lancaster, "Hello, young master."

Grandfather introduced with a kindly smile, "This is the young madam. She and Adrian Lancaster have registered their marriage."

"Hello, young madam."

Faye Turner smiled sweetly, "Hello everyone."

In the back yard’s smaller building, the moment Nanny Warren stepped into the Buddha hall, she reported to the middle-aged woman handling Buddha beads, "Madam, the young master and young madam have returned."

Eliza Hayes dressed in plain clothes, compared to people her age, her face showed some weariness. Hearing this, her expression remained unchanged, showing no intention to go to the main villa.

Nanny Warren sighed softly, gently advising, "The elder is very happy, you should go out and see."

The middle-aged woman disdainfully gazed at her and then withdrew her glance. Facing the Bodhisattva, she closed her eyes, mind unfettered, focusing on turning the Buddha beads in her hands.

"..." Nanny Warren was anxious, "Madam!"

The middle-aged woman’s brow furrowed, "You go out." Her words were icy.

Nanny Warren stood aside, still diligently persuading, "Eliza, how many years have passed? Adrian is married now... could you please...?"

"No." Eliza Hayes’ tone was extremely cold, "Leave."

Nanny Warren didn’t want to provoke her, "Okay, okay, it’s my fault for speaking out of turn, don’t be upset." She sighed heavily and then stood by with her eyes downcast, "I will wait for you."

Eliza Hayes faced the Bodhisattva, still turning the Buddha beads in her hand, recalling certain memories that felt like a knife carving pain in her heart, blood gushing, unbearable anguish.

Nanny Warren could understand her actions but always believed time should be a good thing, some things would eventually be let go, right?

After Adrian Lancaster and Faye Turner entered the main villa, Grandpa had already prepared delicious pastries for them and brewed Earl Grey tea.

Grandpa played chess with Faye Turner and asked the servant beside him, "Where is Nanny Warren?"

"Back to the elder, Nanny Warren went to the backyard after seeing the young master and young madam return, probably to notify madam."

The elder nodded with satisfaction, "Okay." and didn’t inquire further.

Faye Turner played chess with Grandpa and chatted with him, everything seemed tranquil, while Adrian Lancaster accompanied them.

An hour passed quickly, and the girl felt somewhat puzzled.

Where was Adrian Lancaster’s mother? Wasn’t she the one who requested to see her? Why hasn’t she come out despite being informed long ago?

Until dinner was ready and the servant announced that everyone could dine.

The chess game ended just in time; Grandpa led Adrian Lancaster and Faye Turner to the dining room, again instructing the servant nearby, "Go call madam for dinner."

"Yes, elder." The servant received the order and promptly turned to leave.
