Chapter 49: There’s No Such Thing as a Free Lunch
CHAPTER 49: CHAPTER 49: THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH
The man’s eyebrows unconsciously tightened, "I just don’t want to wear a hat, don’t want to give the media a chance to write nonsense!" But when emotions run high, he couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty.
"Okay, I’ll pay attention from now on." Faye Turner nodded, agreeing readily.
He corrected her, "Not pay attention, but eliminate."
"Okay, I’ll eliminate it from now on." The girl quickly changed her words, "Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?" She wanted to avoid conflict, to stay clear.
Also, given that he signed that big contract with her today, she decided to be kind for once.
"Are you feeling guilty?" Adrian Lancaster’s sharp gaze turned to her, "Why is your attitude getting so good all of a sudden?"
"You..." Faye was momentarily speechless, "What would you prefer I say? Because I know there’s no benefit in offending you!"
That was indeed true.
Adrian Lancaster didn’t know what was wrong with him either, in short, extremely displeased! Annoyed at heart! Just wanted to latch onto her.
Actually, he knew she hadn’t done anything to betray him.
Faye Turner took out her phone, prepared to play the recording.
"By the way, there’s an issue here that needs attention too, I really went to the store within two hours after eating, and I saw Ivy Jennings."
Seeing that he didn’t interrupt, she continued, "Are you unclear about the boundaries with your female secretary? Letting her hold unrealistic fantasies about you?"
"Nonsense." Adrian Lancaster replied in a deep voice.
Just knew he would deny it!
"Then listen to it yourself." So, Faye Turner played the recording—
"I don’t allow you to use tricks to get close to him, because you are not worthy!"
"Ah, what identity do you have to warn me again and again? Haven’t you positioned yourself correctly?"
"Faye Turner!" Ivy Jennings was practically exploding, raising her voice, "I am reminding you! You are not worthy of the president! Don’t delude yourself! Mind your own business!"
Hearing this, Adrian Lancaster’s eyebrows furrowed slightly again.
"Then don’t meddle in my business either! Who do you think you are?" Faye Turner retorted in the recording, "You’ve been by Adrian Lancaster’s side for so many years, if there was any possibility, you should have shown signs of being together! The one who truly needs to wake up is you!"
When Faye heard her voice, she wanted to quickly turn it off, but in a panic, unlocking delayed it more, embarrassingly!
Adrian Lancaster finished listening!
After turning off the recording, to cover her inner panic, she swiftly said to him, "She’s warned me like this more than once! I’m really afraid that someday I’ll snap and just say I’m your wife! Legitimate! Legally recognized!"
Adrian Lancaster scrutinized her, "Your tongue isn’t bad either, huh?"
The girl angled a smile, "Mr. Lancaster, you’re too kind. I’ll go make you dinner!"
With those words, she turned around and walked towards the kitchen.
Adrian Lancaster sat alone on the sofa, recalling what Ivy Jennings had said, and his entire demeanor became much colder.
Because her tone and attitude truly went beyond his expectations.
After dinner.
Adrian Lancaster’s bad mood subsided a lot because he rarely ate homemade dishes, which carried the taste of family, a taste of home, something he always longed for.
Before Faye Turner moved in, there was no hint of life in here.
But now, the kitchen was full of ingredients, and the refrigerator had everything.
"Don’t you find it puzzling?" Adrian Lancaster placed his hands behind his back, standing at the window, gazing at the bustling night view outside, "A contract exceeding the limit by 50%, I signed it for you without saying a word."
Faye froze for a moment, actually quite moved, "Thank you, I only found out the contents of the contract later."
The man turned his gaze to her and asked, "Do you think there’s such a thing as a free lunch in the world?"
She met his gaze in confusion, silent.
As their gazes met, Adrian Lancaster’s lips curled slightly in a cold sneer, "You wouldn’t be thinking I fell in love with you, would you?"
At that moment, he was exceptionally clear-headed; this woman was not Sienna.
"I dare not dream." Faye put down the neatly folded blanket, sighed lightly, straightened up, and looked at him again, "If you have something to say, say it directly, don’t beat around the bush."
"Do me a favor." Adrian Lancaster said directly, "Tomorrow, make a fresh batch of ’Sun-kissed sweetness’ that will satisfy Mr. Mark."
"Just this?" Faye was surprised, she almost thought she heard wrong.
The man nodded, "Yes."
"You scared me to death." Faye breathed a sigh of relief, "I thought you were going to ask for my life!"
