CHAPTER 5: CHAPTER 5: HER HOME FROM NOW ON

"Mom, he’s a good man. He’s the one who sent people to bring you out." Faye Turner calmly put away the marriage certificate, "Don’t worry about me for now, just take good care of Milo. I’m already of age."

"Faye..." Chloe Gable’s emotions were complex as she held her hand tearfully, "I’m sorry you had to suffer with our family."

"No regrets about our encounter, no talk of debts." The kind-hearted girl promised her, "Don’t worry, I will take care of you in old age, as long as I have even a morsel, you and my brother will too!"

Chloe Gable felt deeply comforted, her heart was sour, and she turned to tightly embrace this adopted daughter.

After a while, Faye soothed her, opened a big box, and began tidying her belongings.

"Are you really going to move in with this Mr. Lancaster?"

"Yeah." The girl acted swiftly, her tone light, "Now that we’re married, we should live together, right? He’s really good to me, and his grandfather likes me a lot too."

"Faye!" The middle-aged woman was still full of worry, "Is that man truly reliable? What’s his situation? Does he have any bad habits? You should at least get something out of it, right? You must have your reasons, right?"

"Just because he saved me today, saved you, he’s worth trusting." Faye stuffed all her clothes into the suitcase, pulled the zipper forcefully, deciding to lean on Adrian Lancaster.

To keep her mother from worrying, she always kept a cheerful tone, even sporting a blissful smile.

Chloe Gable thought that with this Mr. Lancaster, her daughter would be happier than staying with the Turner Family.

"Mom, please don’t be swayed by Vincent Turner, take good care of my brother. I’ve paid the rent for a year, and I’ll send you living expenses on time every month."

"Faye, you absolutely must be happy." That was Chloe Gable’s greatest wish.

"Okay, Mom, I’m leaving now!" Faye dragged the suitcase and was ready to go, and with a click, a wheel fell off.

Seeing this, Chloe Gable quickly said, "Get another suitcase? This one’s broken."

"No need, I can carry it. That good suitcase is left for you to use!"

Afraid of running out of time, she picked up the suitcase and walked out, turning her head with a smile to remind her mother, "Take good care of yourself! I’m off!"

Chloe Gable leaned against the doorframe, watching as her daughter’s figure disappeared, recalling Faye’s words about taking care of her in old age, her nose tingled with sorrow and guilt.

Ever since finding Faye after she got lost from her family, Chloe had spent half a year living steadily with her at kindergarten, and blindly married Vincent Turner, causing this child to suffer alongside.

Looking out at the scenery shattered by passing cars through the car window, Faye held the key and access card given by Adrian Lancaster, feeling somewhat uncertain about the future.

This man had an imposing aura, combining elegance with aloofness. Even if it was just cohabiting, she felt a sense of being beside a sovereign, making her hesitant to make direct eye contact.

The taxi couldn’t drive into the high-end complex, so it stopped at the entrance.

With the suitcase wheel broken, it couldn’t be dragged, so Faye had to carry it.

Her plainness and awkwardness clashed against the upscale environment, yet she remained undaunted, filled with inner energy.

She exerted significant effort to carry the suitcase into the elevator, leaving her panting heavily, but at least she was self-sufficient.

As she stepped out on the 28th floor and stopped at unit 2801, she used the key to open the door.

No mistake, this was it.

It was a spacious duplex apartment, about three hundred square meters over two floors? Surely valued over five million.

The black, white, and gray tones were simple yet chic, favored by the young people today.

Faye walked around the house feeling it lacked a lived-in vibe, silent and desolate.

She couldn’t find any trace of him having lived there.

Even the kitchen didn’t have seasoning jars or any food supplies.

Opening the fridge, it was just as empty.

This made Faye’s brow furrow. If it weren’t for the fact that the key opened this door, she’d suspect it was just a model unit in a housing project.

But as this is to be her future home, it needs the warmth of life.

She casually shut the fridge, took the key, and stepped out the door.
