Chapter 6: The Old Man’s Divine Assist
CHAPTER 6: CHAPTER 6: THE OLD MAN’S DIVINE ASSIST
Half an hour later.
Faye Turner came back from the supermarket carrying three large bags, the heavy plastic bags were cutting into her fingers.
Finally, she placed the bags in front of the fridge and shook her painful, red fingers!
Then, she put ingredients like chicken, duck, fish, and meat into the fridge, along with red dates and mushrooms, neatly arranged.
Next, she placed soy sauce, oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, vinegar, peanut oil, and salt in the kitchen.
Then she tied on the newly bought apron, took out four big bowls, and poured the minced meat she’d just bought into the bowls.
She started peeling sweet corn, dicing carrots, and chopping cilantro and mushrooms.
She planned to make some dumplings to freeze, which would be convenient for breakfast or a midnight snack later.
Since she didn’t know what filling Adrian Lancaster liked or if he had any dietary restrictions, she thoughtfully prepared four different kinds of fillings.
While making dumplings, she turned on the TV to watch a variety show, utilizing her time well and not feeling bored.
When she had filled four large plates with dumplings, and there was little filling left in the bowl, the doorbell rang.
She turned her head in surprise, quickly got up to wash her hands, and with curiosity, hurried to open the door, "Grandpa?!"
There stood Grandpa Lancaster alone at the door, leaning on a walking stick, smiling widely.
"Come in, come in, Grandpa, please come in!" Faye quickly opened the door wide to help him inside, "Weren’t you supposed to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow?"
"My grandson got married; I’m so happy that I feel perfectly fine!" The old man was full of energy, holding a gift for her in his other hand, "Where’s Adrian?"
"He... he went to the office for a meeting." Faye improvised a reason; she didn’t know where he had gone.
"What?" The old man’s face fell, it was almost six o’clock, he placed the bag on the table and took out his phone to call Adrian Lancaster.
"Grandpa..."
"Adrian Lancaster, what meeting do you have to attend on your wedding night? Hurry up and come home!" The old man’s voice was full of authority, leaving no room for opposition.
After hanging up, the old man smiled again, handing the bag to the girl in front of him, "Faye, this is Adrian’s wedding gift for you, he left it at the old house, see if you like it?"
To make the old man happy, Faye accepted it joyfully, "Thank you, Grandpa, I like everything he gives me."
"What a thoughtful child." The old man praised.
Only then did he notice her wearing an apron, and saw the homemade dumplings on the table along with the leftover dough and meat filling.
He took two steps forward, initially surprised and then overjoyed, "Faye, did you make all of these dumplings yourself?"
"Yes, Grandpa."
The girl replied with a smile, putting the gift down, "There was nothing in his fridge, so I thought to make some dumplings to keep, handy for when we get hungry, much cleaner than store-bought frozen dumplings."
The old man was deeply moved, "This guy truly married a virtuous girl!"
"Grandpa, does Adrian have any food preferences? I made four types of fillings, surely at least one he will like?" The girl handed over a glass of warm water, "Grandpa, have a glass of water first, sit down on the sofa, and I’ll clean up a bit."
"Alright, alright." The old man took the water glass, "He eats everything! No dietary restrictions."
"Then that’s perfect."
After chatting with his granddaughter-in-law for a while, Adrian Lancaster rushed back, not having time to explain before Grandpa launched into a scolding.
"Grandpa, don’t be angry, it’s not good for your health." Faye quickly mediated, smiling to cover up, "Adrian had special circumstances today, he promised he’d come back early, and if you hadn’t called, he would definitely have returned."
The old man was worried his precious grandson wouldn’t come home at night, leaving his new bride to sleep alone, so he left the hospital early to ensure they had a proper wedding night!
