CHAPTER 8: CHAPTER 8: I’M NOT LEAVING TONIGHT

Soon, the sound of running water came from the kitchen.

"Grandpa, I’ll go take a look." Faye Turner was a bit worried, smiling as she held the old man’s hand, "I’m sure he’s never washed dishes before, I need to teach him."

After saying that, she got up and headed to the kitchen.

Adrian Lancaster was standing at the sink, squeezing dish soap.

"Can you do it? Want me to help?" Faye knew all too well that living under his roof, she couldn’t afford to offend him.

"With Grandpa here, how dare I bother Mrs. Lancaster?"

Faye felt a bit awkward at his sarcastic remark, stood by him for a moment, then sensibly turned and left.

Adrian Lancaster was puzzled, whose grandpa is this old man anyway?

Soon, the sound of Grandpa’s joyful voice came from outside—

"Faye, Grandpa won’t leave tonight! Staying to watch you spend your wedding night!"

The man’s hand trembled as he washed his wrist, the bowl almost slipped, Adrian’s eyes darkened; he was nearly shocked to internal injury.

Faye didn’t think much about Grandpa staying over tonight, she figured the house was big enough to accommodate everyone!

"Faye." The old man suddenly turned serious and said to her, "See if you can find a suitable time to arrange a meeting between both families’ elders? Even though you and Adrian Lancaster have registered your marriage, the bride price, the wedding, these should all follow the proper process."

This was something Faye had been worried about and Grandpa brought it up.

"Grandpa, I don’t need a bride price, nor a wedding." Faye frankly admitted, "My family is a bit of a mess, my foster father is a gambler and owes a lot of debt."

"My foster mother is busy with my brother, who’s in his final year of high school, and doesn’t have time for my affairs. I got married... just to have company in old age and a place to live, thank you, Grandpa, for your appreciation."

Old Master Lancaster listened to this description, not surprised, nor did he look down on her, instead, he thought she was honest.

He had actually already investigated her family situation.

"Faye, no matter what, etiquette-wise, as elders on the groom’s side, we need to do our part, can’t possibly go a lifetime without meeting, right?" The old man understood her.

"..." Faye felt a bit troubled.

The old man wasn’t in a rush, with a kindly smile, "Grandpa won’t pressure you, just promise Grandpa to consider this matter, alright?"

"Okay." The girl could only nod.

Soon, Adrian Lancaster finished washing the dishes and came out, "I’m going to reply to an email." After speaking, he went into the study.

On the living room sofa, Grandpa held Faye’s hand, telling her many stories about Adrian’s childhood, but she realized that she still didn’t know much about this man.

She only knew he was smarter, more diligent, and ambitious than the average kid.

Around nine in the evening, Grandpa personally boiled milk in the kitchen, saying it helps with sleep, poured a cup for Faye, "Faye, drink it while it’s hot, it’ll help you sleep well."

"Thank you, Grandpa." The girl smiled sweetly, regardless of who she married, at least she got the right Grandpa.

The old man held the other cup, about to knock on the study door, and there appeared his beloved grandson.

"Adrian, stop working, have some notion of your wedding night, will you?" The old man handed him the cup of milk, "Drink it while it’s hot, sleep soundly."

"Thank you, Grandpa." He reached out to take it, without thinking much.

After the two young people unsuspectingly finished their milk, the old man sat down on the sofa, waving them off, "Go to bed, don’t worry about me, I’ll sleep on this sofa tonight."

"Grandpa, there’s a guest room." Faye was worried he’d catch a cold.

"No, I like sleeping on the sofa." As soon as he finished speaking, the old man set down his cane, laid on the sofa on his side, and stared fixedly at the master bedroom door, "You two go in."

"..."

Adrian really admired him; Grandpa clearly was forcing him to share a room with his flash-marriage wife!

Faye stood by, seemingly understanding the implication, suddenly feeling quite awkward.

Silence lingered for a few seconds.

Adrian turned and went into the master bedroom, leaving the door open.

Grandpa furrowed his eyebrows at Faye, "Faye, what are you waiting for? Go in and rest early! Hurry in, a night in spring is worth a thousand gold, don’t waste it!"
