CHAPTER 97: CHAPTER 97: PROMISES ARE SOMETIMES FRAGILE

"Yes," Mr. Kerr knew there was no need to hide it; the inn wasn’t large, and they’d soon run into each other.

But to avoid any misunderstandings, he explained, "Secretary Jennings is also here. There’s a project to be developed in this area, and we’re here for some field research first."

"Oh, I see." She smiled, her tone light.

If Sienna didn’t care, would she care about an Ivy Jennings?

Faye Turner knew her position as Mrs. Lancaster was secure. She had a companion for her old age, so she wouldn’t be left unnoticed if she died. The rest of her efforts could be devoted to her career!

While Mr. Kerr was helping her check in, she asked him, "Are the old houses around here far from the inn?"

"Not too far, just behind. But it gets slippery when it rains, and many of them are uninhabited. What kind of inspiration can you get here?"

"It’s even better that no one lives there!" Faye was looking for exactly that kind of cobwebbed place; she was very excited as she took the room card from him, "Thank you, I’ll transfer the payment to you!"

"No need, your expenses for food, clothing, and accommodation can be reimbursed by the company," Mr. Kerr told her. "Call me when you need a car; I’m also around here."

"No, no, no," Faye quickly waved, smiling. "He’s here on a business trip, so he definitely needs the car too. You don’t need to worry about me, and don’t tell him I’m here. I’m just here to take some photos and leave. Checking in with luggage is just a precaution."

"Alright then, you go ahead with your work." Mr. Kerr quite liked this girl. "Do you need any help with your luggage?"

"No, no, it’s very light, I can manage," the girl’s smile was contagious. She really didn’t like troubling others, but she was very happy when people treated her well.

Faye had just carried her suitcase upstairs and was at her room door, ready to swipe the card and enter, when Ivy Jennings came out of the next room with a tray of strawberries and happened to see her.

Ivy’s face darkened, "Faye Turner?"

The girl swiped the door open, turned her gaze at the voice, and the two women’s eyes met.

Ivy asked disapprovingly, "Why do you keep haunting me? You’re everywhere!" It felt like all her plans were ruined.

Faye opened the door, pushed her suitcase inside, and turned to look at her, "Some things never belonged to you in the first place, yet you always fear someone will take them, isn’t that laughable?"

These words made Ivy’s face flush red then pale, undoubtedly mocking her.

Faye didn’t want to argue with her, turned around and entered the room, locking the door behind her.

If Ivy didn’t provoke her, Faye would treat her as air.

But every time she heard the woman speak with ill intentions, Faye’s fiery temper couldn’t hold back.

Forget it!

Don’t let someone irrelevant affect your mood. She sat by the window, took out her phone, and admired the photos she took of the cobwebs that day, truly exquisite and beautiful.

The rain was still falling outside. She glanced out at the rain-soaked view, all lush greenery. The vegetation was abundant, and the air was particularly fresh, making it a suitable place to calm her mind.

Once the rain lightened up a bit, she would take an umbrella and go for a walk.

Adrian Lancaster was also sitting by the window, admiring the same rainy scene. He couldn’t help but think of Sienna, recalling that evening under the camphor tree when they sheltered from the rain—

"Sienna, on your 22nd birthday, I want to gift you the world’s most beautiful necklace! It’ll be called... A Glance of Eternity! Custom-made just for you."

The girl teased him casually, "What if we break up? There’s still five years to go, and the future is unpredictable!"

"I’ll keep my promise," Adrian Lancaster said, tenderly cupping the girl’s face. They smiled at each other.

He cherished her in his embrace, "Even if we break up, I will still do it. I’ll let the whole world know, and hope that when you see it, you can still remember the happiness we once shared."

"Silly! We won’t break up! I want to marry you! Graduation is our wedding!"
