Why Did You Provoke Her? She Can Tell Fortunes!
Chapter 16 - 15: Marriage Contract
CHAPTER 16: CHAPTER 15: MARRIAGE CONTRACT
Chen Yuting waited for Su Nian to finish speaking before he shook his head in denial.
He couldn’t accept this answer.
"How could I, just fine, be haunted by a female ghost."
"Why would a female ghost want to haunt me?"
His whole life, he might not have been a saint, but he was definitely upright and honest. He had never done anything to wrong anyone.
Mu Yunchu looked at him deeply, and instead of answering, asked, "You said before that this is the seventh day since he fell into a coma after the car accident."
"Yes." Su Nian nodded.
The doctor had said that if he didn’t wake up in seven days, he might never wake up, so she remembered the date very clearly.
Mu Yunchu then said something that instantly sent a chill through them.
"It’s today."
"What do you mean by today?" Mrs. Chen craned her neck.
"If nothing unexpected happens, that female ghost will come looking for him tonight."
Everyone: !!!
After Mu Yunchu said this, whether it was their imagination or not, a chill instantly rose from their feet and crept up their backs.
The whole room became eerily cold.
Since some things were inconvenient at the hospital, Mu Yunchu still let them handle the discharge first.
But actually, even staying here wouldn’t change anything.
When the doctor learned that Chen Yuting had woken up, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Great, as long as he’s fine after a few days of observation, everything will be okay."
But upon learning that they wanted an immediate discharge, the doctor frowned with concern and tried to persuade them to stay. Finally, upon hearing they had a private doctor at home, he agreed to let them leave.
...
As Mu Yunchu had thought, both their families were quite affluent.
Standing at the entrance of the duplex courtyard, Mrs. Chen stood out front to open the door.
With the sound of the electronic lock, the door gradually creaked open.
Suddenly, a red piece of paper slipped to the ground.
Startling everyone.
"What happened?"
"Could it be an ad someone slipped in?"
But when they opened it, they found it covered in dense black calligraphy brush strokes. Due to the traditional characters, none of them could read it.
They didn’t pay it much mind, thinking it was scrap paper and were about to throw it away.
Then Mu Yunchu suddenly stepped forward, picked up the red paper. As her eyes moved over it, everyone noticed her gaze becoming increasingly complex.
When she raised her head again, there were furrows between her brows.
"This is a marriage contract."
"The female ghost is here to claim you as her groom."
Mrs. Chen: "Ah?"
As Mu Yunchu’s words fell, she almost fainted. Fortunately, someone nearby supported her, preventing her from collapsing.
Though she didn’t faint, she was genuinely scared stiff.
Once she regained some composure, she grabbed Mu Yunchu’s hand and started crying.
"Miss, no, Master..."
"Please, you must save my son."
"He is my only son!"
...
For a moment, although the large room had only three people, it became unusually lively.
There were those crying, those comforting others, those making bold promises, and others calling their husbands to explain what was happening.
Before long, Chen Yuting’s father, Chen Hai Zhou, rushed back hastily.
He went to the hospital every day, but the company was simply too demanding, so he had to return after half a day.
It turned out he was just in a meeting when he heard that his son had woken up, and before he could feel happy, he heard about the subsequent events.
A female ghost...
He squinted, quickly formulating a plan.
However, he heard over the phone that his wife had already invited a master.
When Chen Hai Zhou saw that Mu Yunchu was such a young woman, he immediately decided to use his connections and find another Daoist with stronger mana.
Probably because of his long tenure in business, there was always a certain sense of superiority when he spoke to people.
His scrutinizing eyes fixated on Mu Yunchu, "I’ll be straightforward, I don’t trust you."
Before Mu Yunchu could speak, Su Nian stepped forward first.
Steadfastly protecting her, "I’m sorry, Uncle, but she’s someone I trust very much. No matter what, you can’t drive her away."
She had already once made the mistake of not trusting Mu Yunchu.
She absolutely couldn’t make it a second time.
Seeing his future daughter-in-law like this, Chen Hai Zhou softened significantly.
"I wasn’t trying to drive her away."
The first sentence was directed at Su Nian, the latter at Mu Yunchu.
"What I mean is that I’ll find another Daoist and let each of you do your best, is that acceptable?"
Of course, Mu Yunchu had no objections.
This kind of approach wasn’t uncommon in this line of work.
She could also understand the other’s caution.
But correspondingly, many people in such situations might feel that their abilities were being looked down upon and would leave in anger.
However, she wasn’t someone to deliberately seek approval from an indifferent face. If the family completely distrusted her, she would leave without a backward glance.
Seeing Su Nian’s hopeful yet pleading eyes, and Mrs. Chen’s praying gesture, she finally nodded.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Chen Hai Zhou turned around and called his secretary.
By the time they got home, it was already afternoon. When the Daoist Chen Hai Zhou had invited arrived, the sun had already set.
The man arrived leisurely, with a young Daoist in tow.
As soon as he entered, he put on a grand show. Stroking his beard, chin held high, he scanned the room with his small eyes.
He exuded an aura of ’I’m the best’ in every move.
Yet Chen Hai Zhou particularly appreciated this demeanor, pampering him with food and drinks, believing he must be truly skilled.
"They always depict it like this on TV; truly capable people always have lofty self-regard," he whispered to Mrs. Chen, then thought of the absent Mu Yunchu, "Think about it, how could someone with real skills be so gentle and polite?"
Mrs. Chen was somewhat swayed by him.
Yet she couldn’t help thinking about the scene where Mu Yunchu had woken her son in an instant.
"Perhaps it was a coincidence or a little trick."
Chen Hai Zhou wasn’t calling Mu Yunchu a fraud.
He simply thought she had some minor abilities but wasn’t capable of handling a female ghost.
So he orchestrated this situation.
As the sun set, when the last sliver of sunlight disappeared over the horizon, night fell.
During this time, Mu Yunchu rested for a while in the guest room.
Besides her, everyone else was on edge, not daring to sleep, with even going to the bathroom alone requiring considerable mental preparation.
Chen Yuting looked haggard, his eyes shadowed as if he had been tortured. Any slight noise startled him nearly to the point of jumping up.
The elderly Daoist stroked his beard and tossed a toothpick into the trash, "Rest assured, as long as this humble Daoist is here, no ghost would dare approach!"
After saying this, he made a show of having the young Daoist beside him pull out dozens of talisman papers from his pouch.
"Stick these talisman papers on every entrance to the outside world, many of them."
"With these, the ghost won’t dare come near."
Hearing this, Chen Hai Zhou quickly took them and distributed them to his family.
The old Daoist added, "Normally, these each cost ten thousand, but today I’ll give you a big discount."
"Alright, alright." Chen Hai Zhou slightly bowed, "Thank you, Master."
In his hurry, someone didn’t hold onto a talisman paper tightly, and it fluttered to the side.
It landed right at Mu Yunchu’s feet.
She paused, picked it up.
The old Daoist across the room instantly assumed an aggressive stance, "Whose junior are you?"
"Didn’t your master teach you not to overestimate yourself, to dare take on such tasks?"
