Sister 24

Maxine honked the horn, but the car in front showed no sign of moving.
Thinking about what she had nned for tonight, Maxine swallowed her anger and got out of the car.
She walked up to the McLaren and knocked hard on the driver’s side window.
As expected, the driver was Sebastian’s chauffeur and assistant, Charles Howell.
Seeing her, Charles forced a slightly awkward smile. “Ma’am-
“Move the car. I have something urgent.” Maxine didn’t want to waste words, not even caring if Sebastian was in the backseat.
She just wanted to leave quickly.
Charles instinctively nced at the rearview mirror, breaking out in ba /bcold sweat. “Ma’am, um… Mr. Mason is here.”
“I know. So what?” Maxine’s expression was icy.
The backseat window slowly rolled down, revealing half of Sebastian’s face in shadow, his emotions indiscernible.
He stared at Maxine coldly. “Where are you going?”
“What’s it to you?” Maxine scoffed.
Sebastian looked away, his tone carrying an inexplicable weariness. “Maxine, you still haven’t given up on the idea of reopening Ivanna’s case, have iyou/i?”
Hearing Sebastian’s tone, Maxine suddenly felt ilike /ishe was the one being unreasonable, while Sebastian was just helpless.
It was always like this. Every time he got too close to Kathleen and she felt unhappy, Sebastian would give her that face and tone.
As if they weren’t in the wrong, but she was.
Maxine clenched her hand slightly and said in a deep voice, “I never nned to give up. Now that Kathleen has made a big mistake, I don’t hold it against her only because of you. Are you going to stop me now?i” /i
Sebastian turned his head and frowned at Maxine. “Because of me? Maxine, even now, iyou /istill doubt me and Kathleen?”
In that moment, anger surged through Maxine’s heart. She wanted to ask Sebastian why he was looking bat /bher like she was the one being irrational.
But when the words reached her lips, somehow, she swallowed them back.
She’d talked enoughtely.
“I don’t wanna argue about this right now. No matter what the oue isb, /bwe’re getting a divorce anyway.” Maxine’s face was filled with obstinacy.
“Even if I ended up with nothing, I still want to divorce you, Sebastian. Do you understand?
“If you get it, tell your people to clear the way for me now. And don’t bother me again, or I’ll apply for a restraining orderb. /bbYou /bbknow/b–I’m awyer and there are a thousand ways to keep you away from me if I want to.”
The reason Maxine hasn’t done this yet was because of Brian.
She didn’t want to escte the matter, fearing it would make Brian subject to strange looks from others.
This was her final act of love and tenderness as a mother. She got into the car instantly after her words.
