CHAPTER 245: CHAPTER 177: SIMPLE APPLICATION OF ELECTRIC ELEMENT_2
Greeting him was a voluptuous woman with snake-like eyes.
Every time Jacob saw her, his heart couldn’t help but flutter; the scent emanating from her body always fascinated him.
"Miss Xiangwei."
He greeted her. This was not the woman’s real name; people from the Empire always had some strange titles, which seemed ridiculous and old-fashioned to those from the Western Continent, yet the Empire took pride in it.
What a pity, such a beautiful woman had taken on such a serpent-like title!
Jacob could only sigh silently in his heart.
The enchanting woman gave him a slight smile and led him into the drawing-room of the mansion, locking the door behind them as they entered.
Jacob steadied himself; he knew now was not the time to be captivated by beauty. "I’ve done as you said; that Yak is seriously injured and may not last long. The Sub-human on Paradise Island reacted fiercely to this incident; there was almost a riot yesterday."
"You did very well."
Miss Xiangwei’s praise made Jacob a bit excited. He couldn’t resist this subtle feeling; a few simple words seemed to affirm his value, causing him to momentarily feel that no matter what Miss Xiangwei asked, he would gladly oblige.
However, there was still a sliver of doubt in his heart, "Are we really going to provoke a war?"
The political landscape of Ophira had always been the art of balance. They had to frequently present conflicts that could spark without letting things escalate, so that each member of parliament could benefit from it. Jacob was aware that what he was about to do was akin to flipping the table, dragging down at least three parliamentarians, including Lewis, into the war.
"Not us, it’s you, Mr. Jacob. This is your only opportunity. We have learned that your competitor this time is coming on strong and very well-prepared, while you are gradually losing the support of district residents due to the Paradise Island case. The only thing you can do now is delay the verdict of the case, but surely you know better than anyone what the final judgement will be."
Miss Xiangwei paused, then continued, "So you have to drag everyone down with you. From what we know, half of the guests on Paradise Island are human. Not all districts in Ophira have a hostile attitude towards the Sub-human. But once you provoke the war and escalate it, those neutral parties will be forced to make a choice. You can ensure that this war escalates, pulling those neutral residents into it as well."
And the outcome of this war is obvious.
Although the Sub-human have a natural combat prowess, they are too few in number, whereas Ophira is a Kingdom ruled by humans.
"When this war escalates into an ethnic conflict, they will be exterminated."
"I... I understand."
Jacob took a deep breath and made a decision.
This was not his original intention; he personally held an indifferent attitude towards the Sub-human on Paradise Island. All conflicts were merely tools for him to garner votes.
However, to secure his position as a parliamentarian, he must "fight desperately," even if it means dragging everyone down with him!
If sacrificing these Sub-human could exchange for the continuation of power in his hands, he would certainly do it.
The first thing Jacob did after leaving the mansion was to visit a Pure Society outpost, believing it to be invigorating news for them.
The shopkeeper, Sam, was an extremist who had always desired to drive the Sub-human out of Ophira.
Yet the conversation went in a way Jacob did not anticipate.
No revelry, no passionate cries; everyone in the Pure Society seemed very calm, a demeanor that gave Jacob an ominous foreboding.
He didn’t want these people to calm down; they should’ve been like madmen, losing their reason and storming Paradise Island, biting chunks out of the Sub-human even if they died at their hands.
They were like a pack of rabid hunting dogs, faithfully tearing at their master’s designated prey.
"So, you hope that we will ignite this war."
Sam patiently listened to Jacob’s speech, admitting it was invigorating. Under usual circumstances, they would have probably stormed into the Sub-human territory by nightfall.
However,
Heisenberg was their true ally, and after hearing Heisenberg’s plan, mere emotional speeches could no longer sway them.
Jacob retorted, "Isn’t this what you’ve always wanted?"
He felt that the people from the Pure Society were acting strangely today.
"Of course, we can do it," Sam nodded, "But we need weapons, the protective suits and firearms equipped by the law enforcement. I know some of the Sub-human are innate Casters, so we also need anti-Magic equipment. I know you can get those for us. Besides, we need a war fund, just look at them, they’ve been living in poverty all along."
Jacob could hardly believe his ears.
These insatiable hunting dogs dared to make demands of their master. Compared to reckless extremists, Sam today was as calm as a Mercenary negotiating terms with him.
Under usual circumstances, he would have left, cursing them before storming off.
But now, with the election day imminent and his rival having seized the initiative, he desperately needed someone to ignite this war for him.
In Ophira, only the people from the Pure Society were willing to do so.
