"Mr. Karl."
Jacqueline bowed respectfully. "The father of Knight Yas wants to meet you. You mentioned Great Divine Grace last time, and he happens to have a few."
"Oh!" Karl stopped concocting potions and turned to look, his eyes showing contemplation. "Is that so?"
"Yes," Jacqueline nodded. "Elder Henry suggests that if it’s inconvenient for you, we can arrange the meeting at the tavern of the Dragon King Chamber of Commerce."
"No need to trouble yourself," Karl smiled lightly. "I’ll tidy up, and I’ll be right over."
He then gestured for the other party to wait outside and called for Ayala.
"Uncle."
Upon hearing the situation, Ayala frowned subconsciously. "Meeting with someone from the Scythe Brotherhood at this time... might not be too good. Miss Lula is probably not going to be happy."
"Eagle Henry is a qualified merchant, and Yas is my friend; it’s no problem to meet him." Karl straightened his clothes. "Our cooperation with Lula is just that, a cooperation. We are not subordinate to each other, and she’s well aware of that."
But... Henry wants to meet me proactively?
Karl shook his head slightly but did not say much more.
If this had been before he became an Advanced Wizard Apprentice, he might have had some concerns. Now, having advanced, he possessed enough confidence to face dangers. Besides, for the sake of Great Divine Grace, a special trip was worth it.
"Tell Crow about the meeting place; he will know what to do."
"Yes," Ayala complied.
Among the Dragon King Chamber of Commerce’s Great Knights, Crow was the most mysterious. He had a unique Dharma Seal, rumored to even protect his life against peak-level Great Knights.
「...」
"BANG!"
Emma slammed her wine glass to the ground in anger, shattering it and startling the serving staff around her.
"Karl!"
Her facial muscles twitched. "Being of the Dragon King Chamber of Commerce, yet he privately meets with an elder of the Scythe Brotherhood. What is he thinking?"
"Mother," Lula said softly. "Mr. Karl values relationships highly. He’s on good terms with Eagle Henry’s son Yas, and we have no reason to stop him."
"Moreover, since he had Uncle Crow inform us of the meeting, it can’t be considered a private one, and he also wants us to be at ease."
"At ease?" Emma snorted coldly. "If he really wanted people to be at ease, he wouldn’t meet at all!"
"It seems Karl is also not completely trustworthy. You’ll have to find a way to acquire the formula for the Fury Potion, then... Hmph!"
"Mother!" Lula sighed. "The place where Henry arranged to meet Mr. Karl is not far from the slums; it could possibly be a trap."
"Let’s prepare then."
"Mr. Karl is very important to our chamber of commerce. We must not let him come to any harm, no matter what."
The saying goes that a camel, even when emaciated, is still bigger than a horse. The Dragon King Chamber of Commerce had yet to decline, especially after taking down Jasper’s influence, so it was easy to dispatch some Knights.
With a group of Knights accompanying him, there would be room to maneuver even in the face of danger.
"Prepare? Prepare what?" Unexpectedly, Emma raised an eyebrow, her thoughts taking a different turn. "If it really is a trap, it could also be an opportunity for us."
"Hm?"
Lula looked surprised.
「...」
Eagle Henry was known for his steady character and morality, tested by time, which had earned Karl’s trust.
The carriage lumbered along the road.
The muddy, uneven path put the carriage’s shock absorbers to the test.
Inside, incense had been lit and a blanket laid down, creating a warm ambiance that allowed Karl to slowly relax.
No one’s coming!
It seems that I, as a Great Knight and Pharmacist, am not taken very seriously by the Dragon King Chamber of Commerce.
Given Lula’s character, she would not fail to send someone. So... was it Lady Emma’s decision?
Karl gently shook his head.
In his view, both Emma and Lula had their flaws.
Emma was too domineering, and sometimes even unreasonable, which explained why many had grievances against her.
Although her strength exceeded that of both vice presidents, no one had ever suggested she take the chairwoman’s place.
Lula, on the other hand, was the opposite.
Her character was too weak.
Perhaps it was the presence of a domineering mother that caused her to lack resolution at crucial moments.
If Lula truly wished to grow, she likely had to free herself from the shadow of her imposing mother.
Hm?
"Stop the carriage!"
"WHOA!"
Jacqueline pulled the reins, bringing the carriage to a halt. "Mr. Karl, what’s the matter?"
Unbeknownst to him, a light drizzle began to fall, and a thin mist spread through Freedom Port.
Karl flipped the carriage curtain and stepped out into the rain, looking forward.
Up ahead, there was a long street, not much different from other places except for fewer pedestrians due to the rain.
However, in Karl’s perception, the air was filled with a deadly aura, like a vast, interwoven net quietly waiting for prey to fall into it.
His powerful spiritual sense could even ’see’ figures hidden on the street and in the buildings.
They held bows high and gripped weapons tightly, holding their breath and listening intently for the signal to strike.
These men had the skill to conceal their life force, but they couldn’t hide their spiritual fluctuations.
Their fervent spiritual power was almost completely laid bare to an Advanced Wizard Apprentice like Karl.
Karl bowed his head.
He looked at his own arm.
The hair, which normally lay flat against his skin, now stood on end, and his spider sense also signaled a warning.
Karl sighed deeply, shaking his head in resignation. "Forget it! Let’s go back."
Eagle Henry had betrayed his trust. Maybe there were other reasons, but Karl was not interested in finding out.
Only, their relationship was likely not going to return to what it was before.
