CHAPTER 203: EVIL GOD’S WILL (PLEASE COLLECT)_3
"Just like Black City, that place once suffered from the erosion of the Evil God’s Divine Power, becoming a forbidden zone for all living creatures."
As a legendary captain who had explored many hidden places, he knew many secrets unknown to others.
"Only the Divine can suppress the Evil God."
Conni looked up, gazing into the distance. "Now that the Divine have fallen, fortunately, the Evil God has also vanished. However, the shadow of the Evil God, its will, still occasionally appears in various places. Only those with a divine Bloodline can suppress the will of the Evil God."
"I don’t know if Duke Ferdinand will come over. Relying solely on the Lord of Suodan might not resolve this trouble."
It was not just about not being able to resolve it; whether the Lord of Suodan himself could even escape the city was another matter.
"The essence of the Evil God is isolated from this world, but even the will of the Evil God cannot be completely eliminated." Conni sighed. "Immortality is the characteristic of these beings."
"Even a Duke doesn’t have an absolute chance of victory against the will of the Evil God, which is why Dukes rarely take action against the will of the Evil God."
"Most turn a blind eye. Fortunately, as long as certain places are avoided, there won’t be too much trouble."
Carl thought of Black City.
The strange aura that emerged from Black City must also be related to the Evil God. The Lord of Suodan’s approach was to forbid people from getting close to Black City.
Then, he put aside the issue and ignored it. Would Duke Ferdinand handle Freedom Port in the same way?
It was hard to say!
The others also wore thoughtful expressions.
If they could not rebuild Freedom Port, then everything they owned would have to be started over.
"Ah!"
A piercing scream rose, bringing everyone immersed in Conni’s story back to their senses. They looked back.
"Still following us?"
Sea God Hawke frowned. "Go!"
"To Lym Canyon first!"
Lym Canyon was situated between two high mountains, spanning several kilometers in length. The narrowest point could only accommodate a single carriage.
At the entrance and exit of the canyon, there was an old and decrepit fort at each, perfectly situated to defend against the pursuing shark-people.
The group continued forward for a short while.
"GUAH!"
A strange cry echoed from above.
The cries grew more urgent and frequent, causing people to look up, their faces changing dramatically.
Conni, drawing upon his vast experience, spoke gravely, "That is... Ghost Bats!"
"Quick, take cover!"
His warning was clearly a step too late.
Dozens of giant birds with bat-like wings appeared above the crowd, screaming downwards.
"GUAH!"
The sound waves from the screeches were visible to the naked eye, like a barrage of cannonballs, furiously bombarding the crowd.
"BANG!"
One person was hit by several sound waves, and his head exploded entirely, red and white matter splattering everywhere.
The speed of the sound wave attacks was too fast, and their range was terrifying. It was almost impossible to avoid.
Once hit, even a Knight would experience dizziness and turmoil in their stomach for a short period, losing the ability to resist.
"Fire arrows!"
"Quickly, fire!"
Conni yelled. "Curl up! Block your ears to reduce the damage, and only strike when they fly low."
"HMPH!"
Sea God Hawke snorted coldly, a stream of water appearing beneath him, carrying him towards the Ghost Bats above.
These creatures had human bodies, bat-like heads, and wings, looking eerie and unsettling.
Moreover, with their ability to fly, their sonic wave attacks were unpredictable and difficult to counter.
Fortunately, they were quite fragile. Ordinary arrows striking them could cause them to lose balance and fall from the sky.
Once they hit the ground, they would be slaughtered by the chaotic slashing of swords.
"Shark-people!"
"Another group of shark-people is charging over here!"
"..."
After a frantic battle, everyone fought as they fled. With relentless pursuers from behind, their resistance became increasingly strenuous.
In addition to the shark-people, all sorts of monsters kept appearing.
Especially without the fog to conceal them, seeing the aberrations pouring in from all directions could instantly shatter a person’s sanity.
"How could this be?"
Someone screamed. "Leaving the city is even harder than not leaving at all!"
"No, that’s not right." Conni’s eyes flickered. "These creatures have no reason. They just act on the scent of their own kind. Who among you has been tampered with?"
Everyone looked at each other.
Suddenly, a woman pointed at one of the Dragon King Chamber of Commerce’s carriages and shouted. "It’s something inside the carriage."
"Damn it!" Emma’s face changed drastically upon hearing this. With a swift move, she appeared beside the woman, her slap sending the woman flying.
Sea God Hawke squinted. "What’s inside the carriage?" he demanded. "Open it!"
"Don’t open it!" Emma shrieked. "I’ll see who dares!"
Before her words were finished, Carl had already stepped forward. With a sweep of his hand, he tore away the chains on the outside of the carriage, revealing its contents.
Inside the carriage, there was indeed a shark-person!
Furthermore, this shark-person was cradling the headless body of a child, eagerly and excitedly devouring it.
Even surrounded by onlookers, it was indifferent, as if nothing was more important than eating a human.
Or rather, it had grown accustomed to being watched while consuming humans.
"A shark-person?"
"Is the Dragon King Chamber of Commerce breeding shark-people? And feeding them children’s corpses?"
"..."
Everyone exchanged glances, their expressions changing.
"Madam."
Hawke clenched his fists tightly, his body shaking with anger. He gritted his teeth and said, "What is going on here?"
No wonder the pursuers could never be shaken off and more kept coming. It turned out there was one of their own kind here.
With it present, even if everyone fled to the ends of the earth, they could still be tracked down by the shark-people.
Someone in the crowd spoke up, "It’s the son of the former chamber president. He contracted dropsy and was kept by the Chamber. The shark-people who broke into Freedom Port were all former dropsy patients."
Carl and Ayala had speculated about this, but not many others knew. Upon hearing it, everyone’s faces turned pale with shock.
