Wizard: I Can Refine Everything
Chapter 837 - 141: Civilization Possession
CHAPTER 837: CHAPTER 141: CIVILIZATION POSSESSION
After snuffing out the last of the resistance in the Galaxy Great World, the world did not fall silent but instead became tumultuous.
Black slime continuously spread across the land, until it turned the entire world into a black ocean.
Until all life in this world became a part of it.
This process was slow, and from a large enough perspective, the spreading of the slime truly seemed like a blob slowly expanding.
But when observed on the scene, the spread of this slime was unparalleled even by the Wizards’ War Airships.
Within an hour, all living beings of the Galaxy Great World had become part of this black ocean.
The World Origin of the Galaxy Great World was forced to choose slumber to preserve itself.
Yet, it still underestimated the abilities of this slime.
Once the black ocean covered the entire world, it began to devour the material of Galaxy Great World. And as it devoured, black tentacles like infusion tubes pierced into the earth veins of the Galaxy Great World.
However, unlike infusion tubes, the sole purpose of these black tentacles piercing into the earth veins was to absorb the abundant energy within—
Even the Civilization Devourer could not survive in a material form without requiring energy.
Along with the extraction of earth vein energy, a great lament echoed throughout the Galaxy Great World.
That was the Galaxy Great World weeping.
But the weeping couldn’t stop anything.
After starting to extract earth vein energy, the black ocean suddenly began to churn.
Desecrating runes surfaced in the black ocean; it actually used a world as a formation base to initiate a massive summoning ritual, or rather, a receiving ritual.
Because the entity about to appear in the present world was not summoned, but had chosen to come to the Material World voluntarily.
The summoning ritual operated silently, a gigantic fissure slowly opened in the Galaxy Great World.
Behind that fissure, an unspeakable great existence slowly squeezed into the Material World.
...
"Damn, what the hell have you done!"
Richard felt the gaze of the Civilization Devourer, and his whole body instantly tensed, the Miracle Fire erupted towards the Mayfly dimensional avatar like a volcanic explosion.
As the Miracle Fire approached, the Mayfly dimensional avatar’s body shook, struggling to break free from what seemed like a possessed state.
"Ah, fate is truly cruel." The Mayfly dimensional avatar said softly.
Hearing this, Richard felt his blood rushing straight to his head, his entire being heated up.
"Hell, stop the cryptic talk! What have you done?! How did you get tainted by the Civilization Devourer!"
"He buried hidden schemes inside the relics we were researching. Just now, those schemes activated, exploding at a time when all Dominators were absent."
The Mayfly dimensional avatar’s voice sounded very calm, as if the matter wasn’t very serious.
"The Galaxy Great World has already fallen; all living beings within the world have become part of that black hand. And it’s still expanding, devouring other worlds’ mayflies along the wormhole."
"Hmm!?"
Hearing this, Richard was stunned.
Such a massive event, and you can still sit so calmly? You almost got possessed just now!
Seemingly sensing Richard’s thoughts, the Mayfly dimensional avatar continued, "The situation is irreversible; the contamination has already spread in the Mayfly Dimension, haste and anger are of no use.
This is a matter concerning the survival of species, and it cannot afford urgency."
"Irreversible?"
Upon hearing this, Richard felt a sudden chill. He tried his best to calm his emotions, letting reason take over his mind.
"So what exactly happened?"
"First, some relics shed their disguise; they were originally part of the Civilization Devourer but were deliberately disguised as relics and placed in the ruins of previous civilizations.
The Civilization Devourer used this part of its body to sabotage our research facility, devoured the researchers there, and by using the Quasi-Emperor, transmitted a meme curse into the web of minds.
The rest doesn’t require me to elaborate."
Richard shuddered.
Indeed, no elaboration needed.
The meme curse spread rapidly through the web of minds, and quickly infected batch after batch of Galaxy Mayflies.
Upon completing the infection, the meme curse erupted, the entire world engulfed by the limbs of the World Devourer.
The Mayfly dimensional avatar looked at Richard, and a sudden intense dimensional power fluctuation burst forth within him.
"Wizard, you’re the fire seed of prophecy, the one to kill that war black hand. Although we’ve been adversaries in the past, the Galaxy Mayflies still hold value.
I have a deal to strike, if you agree, I’ll gift you a rare treasure."
Richard felt a chill in his heart, knowing that anything available for trade at such a time would definitely not be simple.
"What do you want?"
The Mayfly dimensional avatar solemnly said, "The Galaxy Mayflies need continuity. They can be cannon fodder, they can be food, but they must not go extinct.
I need you to lead the Galaxy Mayflies to continue on; as long as you don’t die, the Galaxy Mayflies can continue to exist normally in this world.
If you agree, I will hand over the yet-to-be-formed Mayfly Spirit to you."
Mayfly Spirit?
Richard rummaged through his memory for that name.
The Mayfly Spirit is a legendary figure among the Galactic Mayflies. The Galactic Mayflies believe that all deceased Mayflies enter the Supreme Lake, becoming a part of the Mayfly Spirit, blessing the survival of the Galactic Mayflies.
This is also the reason for the Mayflies’ contribution of this ability.
The Contribution of the Mayfly is the blessing and protection from the Mayfly Spirit.
"A Civilization Treasure nurtured by myth and dimensions?" Richard thought in shock.
He never expected the Galactic Mayflies had reached the strength to nurture a Civilization Treasure. If not for the rise of the Wizards, the day the Mayflies devoured all of the Wizard Civilization would be the birth of this Mayfly Spirit.
Judging by the abilities shown by the Mayfly dimensional avatar, this Mayfly Spirit might possess all the dimensional abilities of the Galaxy Mayflies’ Dominators, all the combat skills created by the Galactic Mayflies, and nearly infinite Power of Dimension.
With such a terrifying existence, the Galactic Mayflies would be among the strongest in this World Community, if not invincible.
"I agree," Richard said in a deep voice.
"I swear by the Sea of Souls, as long as I live in this world, the Galactic Mayflies will live normally in this world."
The Mayfly dimensional avatar mimicked the Wizard’s etiquette and slightly bowed to Richard.
"May your path be blessed by the Mayfly Spirit."
After saying this, the lower half of the Mayfly dimensional avatar’s body suddenly expanded, and a Mayfly Egg was discharged from its body.
The moment Richard saw the egg, he felt a sense of threat. But soon, this threat transformed into a sense of kinship.
For the Mayfly dimensional avatar handed the egg to Richard.
"This child possesses all the Dominators’ abilities except for the swarm, but if it is nurtured with enough Power of Dimension, it will surely grow into a terrifying existence in the future.
At that time, it will regard you as its father and mother and become your most capable subordinate."
Richard solemnly accepted the egg, placing it into his own dimension.
The Mayfly dimensional avatar said softly, "Destiny is unpredictable; the world and craftsmanship aim to challenge destiny, but ultimately are defeated by it.
Wizard, go and snatch back those people from that monster.
I have severed the connection between the Mayflies on your side and the dimension, and told them to surrender to the Wizards.
All the Mayflies you can seize will become your strength."
After saying this, the Mayfly dimensional avatar’s body dissipated like falling flowers.
Richard watched as its body disappeared, then looked at his own palm.
Unknown when, the mark left by the Curse Crown had been activated.
He murmured softly, "Crown, your endurance is rather short."
...
Wizard World.
"Damn it, what the hell are these things?"
The Day and Night Guardian looked at the continuously spreading black sludge ahead, attempting to forcibly wrap it with Earth Element and banish it from the Wizard World.
But the sludge seemed to carry its own Space Anchor, and no matter how he used spatial methods, the sludge remained in place and kept expanding.
The Forest Guardian emerged from the Void, looking extremely displeased.
"Day and Night, the same thing has been found in other places. The source of this stuff seems to be some as-yet-undiscovered Ancient Civilization Ruins."
"Ancient Civilization Ruins? The Wizard World still has such things!?" Day and Night Guardian exclaimed in surprise, "I thought these things had been completely unearthed during the Enlightenment Era."
"These ruins should be worthless dangerous ruins, so no Wizards explored them."
The Forest Guardian stared at the sludge, which continued to engulf Earth Element and expand, feeling a wave of irritation.
This was not his emotion but the emotion the World Origin transmitted to him.
The Wizard World detested this thing.
"As expected, this stuff has appeared here as well."
A sudden voice whispered in the guardian’s ear, causing them to turn their heads to see that Richard’s avatar had already crossed the space to stand beside them.
Richard looked at the sludge, and Miracle Fire immediately ignited on his body.
"Go find out where these things are. I’ll handle this."
"Yes, my lord."
"Also, everyone who sees this stuff must be quarantined; this is an order from the Truth Council, and it applies to everyone."
"Yes, Crown Throne."
The guardians disappeared, leaving Richard staring at the sludge before him, casually tossing out a ball of Miracle Fire.
Under the burning of the Miracle Fire, the black sludge that seemed capable of devouring everything quickly shrank, as if it had encountered its nemesis.
Seeing this scene, Richard’s eyes flickered slightly.
"Hmm? It’s not the same stuff as last time. If it’s not... could these sludges be the Civilization Devourer’s contingency?"
Considering the sludge’s origins, Richard was nearly certain that these things were leftover arrangements from the Civilization Devourer before being sealed.
If so, doesn’t that mean...?
Richard’s heart trembled as he immediately crossed the space to the City of Eternal Truth to the archive that held the relics of the Previous Civilizations.
Among the many relics, a small clump of pitch-black liquid, trapped suspended by a Stagnation Force Field, appeared conspicuously.
