Chapter 465 299: Invitation of the Gods
Oranck, Steam Cathedral.
Pope Zig III, the old man who usually holds the fate of millions of believers with dignified authority, is currently in a hurry.
His steps are infused with an urgency that belies his status as he makes his way through a secret passage accessible only to the top echelons of the Church, heading deep beneath the Cathedral.
Soon, his path is blocked by a giant bronze door, engraved with intricate patterns and exuding a rich atmosphere of ancient mythology.
The door is cold and heavy, with carvings depicting the ancient legends of Saints descending to the human world during the medieval era.
Flanking the door, like sculptures, stand two figures dressed in judgment armors, surrounded by a holy radiance. They are Sequence 4 Human Saints.
Their eyes scan the surroundings vigilantly and only after confirming the identity of the Pope do they trigger a complex mechanism to gradually open this first barrier.
Behind the bronze door is a deep and long corridor, its walls embedded with steam lamps emitting a soft glow. In this light, one can see clearer murals on the walls.
After passing through the corridor, the second door, the silver door, comes into view.
This door emits a soft and sacred glow, and the reliefs inscribed on it depict a more glorious era, portraying ancient mythology of gods walking harmoniously with humans on the earth.
Guarding both sides of the silver door, the presence is even more terrifying; they are Sequence 3 Human Gods of the present world, nearly fully immersed in shadows, their forms indistinct, yet exuding an overwhelming pressure that makes the souls of ordinary Saints tremble.
Upon seeing the Pope, they nod slightly, and the silver door silently glides open.
Beyond the silver door, the temperature seems to rise abruptly, and the air is filled with even purer, more active Extraordinary energy.
Before Zig III stands the last and most magnificent, sacred golden door.
The golden door flows with a near-liquid radiance, and its carved mythological scenes have become extremely grand and tragic, depicting the primordial epic of the battle of the gods.
Stars falling, earth shattering, ultimately the Seven Great Gods regain their positions upon the ruins, establishing the foundational mythology of the current world order.
Guarding this final door are two Sequence 2 Earth Angels, their figures surrounded by fiery wings, exuding an aura that is divinely inviolable.
They are attendants before the god, beings close to divinity.
The three doors open in sequence before the Pope, symbolizing his penetration through the layers of protection of the Steam Sect's core.
Zig III takes a deep breath, calming his slightly rapid breathing, and steps alone into the final area, the Secret Divine Hall, beyond the golden door.
Contrary to being lavishly adorned, the interior of the hall appears somewhat spacious and ancient.
Only at the center altar burns an unextinguishable fire of faith.
Above the altar, within a halo of soft light, sits quietly cross-legged a young man clad in a simple white robe.
He possesses a handsome face with a gentle demeanor, like a boy next door, seemingly having awaited here for quite some time.
Upon seeing this white-robed youth, all of Zig III's urgency and dignity vanish instantly, replaced by a deep reverence and devotion emanating from the depth of his soul.
Without the slightest hesitation, he tidies his robe and bows deeply to the white-robed youth, performing the most formal papal salute: "Your Highness, Angel King, good day.
Please, what is the matter that has prompted your urgent summons?"
The white-robed youth slowly opens his eyes, within which seems to sediment the river of time, the wisdom and vicissitudes within enough to unsettle any onlooker.
He does not immediately answer, merely using those profound eyes to quietly gaze at the Pope, who wields immense worldly power.
Just with this silent gaze, Zig III's body jerks violently, as if realizing something at that instant, his face showing an intertwining mix of ecstasy and dread.
He hesitates no longer, his knees go soft, and he devoutly kneels down, pressing his forehead against the cold ground, in a voice akin to singing a sacred hymn, he loudly intones: "Welcome, my Lord, God of Steam and Mechanics! Welcome back in advance, Your Eminence!"
During the lengthy slumber of the Seven Great Gods, the Steam Sect is, in name, under the supreme authority of the Pope, yet all core members are well aware that the true ruler of all the Church's Extraordinary power is this Sequence 1 Angel King.
He is not only a powerful entity but a step away from being a True God, the beacon and vessel of the Steam God on earth.
According to the established cycle, when the Steam God awakens from slumber, his true form will remain in the Star Realm, continuing to resist the invasive otherworldly demons beyond description.
And the Angel King will become the sole vessel for my Lord's consciousness to descend into the human world, walking the earth.
The Angel King is indeed the most formidable force in this arcane version, battling many Hidden Evil Gods alongside various Hidden Angels and the Angel King.
As for the Seven Great Gods, they have long transcended worldly bounds.
Normally, it should be about a month before the Steam God fully awakens.
However, the posture of the Angel King at this moment, and the supreme will emanating from those eyes, indicating clearly that the Steam God has already descended a sliver of consciousness into the body of this Angel King in advance.
The significance of this development commands the utmost attention from Zig III.
