CHAPTER 285: CHAPTER 285: UNCLE KENDALL SAVED ME

Tanya Sinclair had just woken up, quickly freshened up, and saw Caden’s figure entering the room as she came out of the bathroom.

"Mom!" Caden sprinted over.

Tanya Sinclair smiled warmly as she embraced him tightly.

"Good morning, sweetheart."

"Mom, are you feeling better today? Does anything still hurt? Is there anywhere you’re uncomfortable?" Caden asked in a flurry of concern.

Tanya felt a warmth in her heart.

"No, Mom’s fine. I’ll have some tests done and get some medication later. I should be able to be discharged by the afternoon."

Caden said happily, "That’s great! Then you can come home tonight, Mom."

Tanya looked at her son, her eyes also full of joy.

She glanced up and noticed Aunt Tawny holding a bouquet of flowers, yellow roses, to be precise, elegantly wrapped, each bloom at the height of its beauty, vivid and compelling.

This wasn’t something Aunt Tawny would buy.

"Aunt Tawny, who sent this?" Tanya asked, and seeing the slight disdain and awkwardness on Aunt Tawny’s face, Tanya had already guessed it.

Indeed—

"It was Mr. Hawthorne. We ran into him downstairs just now..."

Tanya said calmly, "Throw them away for me, please."

"Sure thing." Aunt Tawny immediately tossed them into the trash bin.

Caden looked at the thermos box he brought in, hesitating whether to throw it away.

Tanya naturally noticed her son’s gaze, and with Aunt Tawny carrying breakfast, it was obvious who had sent the food in the thermos box.

"It’s okay, eat it if you want." Tanya said softly, patting Caden’s head.

No matter how much she disliked Vincent, she wouldn’t force her son to reject his father.

And even though Vincent may not be the best father, he wasn’t entirely bad either. At least in Caden’s heart, he mattered.

Caden opened the lid and ate a dumpling.

"Mom, Dad said these are the soup dumplings you used to love. He lined up to buy them. They’re really good."

Tanya wiped her son’s mouth and said lightly, "If you think they’re good, have a few more."

Ironically, these were the dumplings she used to get up early to buy for Vincent all those years. Now, after the divorce, he was the one buying them for her.

Tanya glanced coldly at the yellow roses in the trash, feeling an overwhelming sense of annoyance.

A summer quilt in winter, a fan in winter — belated attentiveness and care were worthless!

"Mom, will you have some?" Caden asked tentatively, offering another dumpling to Tanya.

His mom, who never refused him, was exceptionally firm this time.

"No, I won’t eat them. If you don’t finish them, throw them away."

Caden understood that his dad was completely out of the picture.

Nearby, Aunt Tawny remarked sarcastically, "A heartbreaker pretending to be affectionate. Mr. Hawthorne is quite amusing, living like a performance artist, improvising a drama as he pleases."

After breakfast, while his mom and Aunt Tawny were chatting, Caden climbed up to the bay window to look out, and sure enough, saw his dad’s car still parked outside.

He took out his little phone and sent his dad a message.

Caden: [Dad, mom doesn’t want to see you, you should leave.]

After thinking for a bit, Caden sent another message seriously.

Caden: [Dad, you shouldn’t disturb mom for a while. She needs to stay in a good mood to recover quickly.]

Meanwhile, Aunt Tawny brought over Tanya Sinclair’s laptop and backup phone.

"Ma’am, see if you have use for these."

"They’re very useful, thank you, Aunt Tawny," Tanya said gratefully.

She needed the phone, as all the important data and information from her original phone had been backed up to the cloud, now transferred to the backup device.

Also, the incoming call information from the original phone was accessible on the backup phone as well.

But the backup phone hadn’t been used in a long time and was dead, so Tanya charged it for a while. Once it powered on, several missed calls appeared, all from the same number.

And they were from last night.

Tanya frowned slightly. She had a good memory for all the contacts she had interacted with, but this number... she was sure she hadn’t called it before.

Testing, Tanya dialed back the number.

After waiting for quite some time without anyone answering, just as Tanya was about to hang up, the other party finally picked up.

A soft, gentle voice came through.

"Aunt Sinclair..."

"Abby?" Tanya was taken aback, "What’s wrong, Abby? Auntie’s phone was broken and I missed your call. Are you okay?"

Tanya was very worried.

She had given Abby her number earlier, telling her to call if she needed anything, and to think she had missed the child’s call!

Caden heard Tanya talking to Abby and came over, leaning in to listen.

"Aunt Sinclair, I wasn’t well last night... I came home late and Grandma was very angry. She locked me in a cabinet and wouldn’t let me have dinner. I was hungry and scared and wanted to call you..."

Hearing this, Tanya’s heart ached with rage!

How could anyone do such a thing to a five-year-old child?!

Especially since the person was Abby’s relative!

Caden also clenched his little fists in anger.

What a bad person!

Abby’s family are villains!

Tanya said, "Abby, where are you now? Auntie will come and find you."

"It’s okay, Aunt Sinclair, don’t worry about me. Uncle Kendall came, he let me out. He even took me to eat lots of yummy food and prepared a really pretty little room for me, with a pink bed and pillows, so soft."

Uncle Kendall?

Tanya furrowed her brows slightly, connecting it with what Aunt Tawny mentioned about running into Felix Kendall yesterday.

"Abby, the Uncle Kendall you’re talking about..."

Tanya hadn’t finished her question when Felix Kendall’s gentle, deep voice came over the phone.

"Abby, please give the phone to me. I’ll explain to your Aunt Sinclair."

Tanya’s eyes flickered.

—It really is Felix Kendall!
