CHAPTER 295: CHAPTER 295: AMBER COFFIN

Daisy naturally agreed readily, mumbling, "I really want to see what kind of charm he has to catch your eye so quickly!"

Tanya just smiled without saying anything.

Back in college, Daisy had quite the fiery temper; she would argue with anyone and even dared to snipe at the homeroom teacher. Her only kryptonite seemed to be Declan Pierce.

Whenever Declan was around, Daisy would behave like a meek little quail.

Tanya couldn’t quite understand why Daisy was only intimidated by Declan.

But now wasn’t the time to question that; tomorrow when the two of them faced each other, perhaps they’d find out.

Tanya approached the door and swung it open. Sure enough, behind it was the collection of books her grandfather, Horace Sinclair, had amassed over the years.

Tanya scrutinized the books carefully.

Among them were medical texts and many books related to I Ching and the mysterious arts.

When did Grandpa become interested in the occult?

"Daisy, I’ll take care of this shelf, and you handle the ones opposite. Help me sort out the medical books from inside."

"Sure."

The two split the work. Daisy was flipping through the books absentmindedly and didn’t notice a small stone bump underfoot. She stumbled and instinctively grabbed a stone cat sculpture beside the shelf to steady herself. Surprisingly, the seemingly sturdy stone turned out to be incredibly light and shifted with ease!

’Boom——’

Accompanied by a massive tremor, a crack appeared in the floor.

Tanya and Daisy quickly stepped aside, relieved when the crack stopped after expanding just a meter wide and two meters long. Gathering her courage, Tanya walked over and looked down, only to be stunned by what she saw.

Below lay an enormous square amber, and inside it was the preserved body of a young woman, incredibly lifelike.

Tanya took a closer look at the woman’s face and collapsed to the ground in shock.

This woman is...

"Ah!!" Daisy also came over to see and screamed in fright, "W-why is there a dead person in there?!"

Tanya regained her composure, speaking tremulously, "This is my grandmother— Iris Keene."

If it weren’t for the current eerie and serious situation, Daisy would have thought Tanya was joking with her.

"How could this be your grandmother? Tanya, this woman looks at most in her thirties."

Tanya replied slowly, "Thirty-six. My grandmother Iris Keene was thirty-six when she passed away..."

Just that morning, she had looked at a photo of her grandmother; it was unmistakable.

Moreover, the clothes the woman wore were styles popular decades ago.

"Then why... why does your grandmother have no signs of decay?" Daisy found it hard to accept.

Is it reasonable for someone who’s been dead for decades to appear so lifelike?

Tanya took a deep breath. She herself found it unbelievable.

"Daisy, have you ever seen insects in amber? Insects that have been dead for hundreds or thousands of years, preserved inside resin and still intact today. My grandfather used the same method to preserve my grandmother’s body."

With Tanya’s explanation, Daisy relaxed significantly.

"So it’s the power of money and technology! Then there’s no problem." Daisy knew that Tanya’s grandfather’s generation was immensely wealthy; what ordinary people couldn’t achieve didn’t mean the wealthy couldn’t.

But Tanya still had a grave expression.

She hadn’t told Daisy one crucial thing.

That currently, no level of technology could produce an amber coffin capable of preserving a human body whole as a specimen!

Just then, Tanya noticed a faint mist seeping from the walls around the coffin, penetrating the supposedly sealed amber.

She crouched down to observe closely, discovering many tiny pores on the walls, almost imperceptible to the naked eye.

Pressing against her throbbing temples, Tanya remembered her mother mentioning that after her grandmother’s death, her grandpa sold off many assets and relocated with her mother to Aris, where he purchased the land and built the villa.

Moreover, Grandpa had relocated Grandma’s tomb to the rear hill.

Tanya pursed her lips slightly.

If her grandma’s body was here, then the tomb on the hill must be empty... Why would Grandpa visit it so often and for hours on end?

Could it be that there’s another secret within the empty tomb?

Suddenly, Tanya thought of the laboratory her grandpa had at the sanatorium.

Her instincts told her that her grandfather’s obsession with the experiment after falling ill was somehow related to her grandmother’s unchanged body for so many years!

"Tanya? Let’s... let’s seal Grandma back up." Daisy tugged on Tanya’s sleeve, speaking with fear.

Tanya restored the black cat sculpture to its upright position, and the floor closed up accordingly.

Now composed, Tanya comforted the frightened Daisy, "Don’t be afraid. This is my home, and you are my best friend. None of my family, alive or dead, would harm you. Besides, where in this world do ghosts come from?"

Realizing Tanya was right, Daisy bowed thrice to the floor.

"I’m sorry, Grandma, I was impolite just now. Excuse the disturbance on our first meeting!"

After that, the two resumed searching for medical books.

Tanya picked three books on her side and carefully selected through the ones Daisy found, leaving with a total of eight medical books.

Before heading upstairs, she reminded Daisy.

"Daisy, don’t tell anyone about what happened here. There’s still so much I haven’t figured out."

What she knew for certain was that there’s no current technology capable of creating an amber coffin, and judging by the preservation of Grandma’s body, this amber coffin was made decades ago!

How could this have been accomplished??

She couldn’t wrap her head around it.

Could it have something to do with what Grandpa was researching in the sanatorium laboratory?

Was his collaborator the Pierce Family, Declan, or Jasper Monroe... The Monroe Family is a mysterious, ancient clan, and Jasper Monroe has never appeared in public.

That Jasper could have such close relations with Declan, who didn’t hold significant power in the Pierce Family, perhaps hinted at another kind of cooperation between them, a relationship of mutual benefits!

But now was not the time to ponder that.

Daisy solemnly promised Tanya, "Don’t worry, it’s just between you and me."

Upon reaching upstairs, they saw Mia dutifully waiting.

"Ms. Daisy, Ms. Tanya, you’re finally back." Mia, Daisy’s assistant, immediately noted Daisy’s pale complexion, "Ms. Daisy, are you alright? You look so pale."

"I’m fine, maybe there wasn’t enough oxygen down there." Daisy brushed it off.

Tanya concealed the secret room again, restoring the floor tiles to their places.

Wasting no time returning home, Tanya stayed there to browse through the medical books. Mia left to handle some work for Daisy, leaving Daisy behind to assist Tanya.

For lunch, the two of them had some takeout.

Daisy, overcome with drowsiness, took a nap on the sofa, and waking, found Tanya still in the same position she was in before she had fallen asleep, only with different books in her hands.

Quietly, she gave a thumbs-up, then tiptoed around Tanya to the restroom.

As Tanya read and jotted down notes, she composed three prescriptions, but to know their effects and required dosage adjustments, they would need testing on a frail, anemic patient.

Absentmindedly biting the pen cap, an idea suddenly popped into her mind—someone who deserved a thousand cuts!

Narrowing her eyes, a mischievous glint crossed Tanya’s gaze.

Alright, that person will do!

She pulled out her phone to message Declan.

Tanya: [Do you know Zeke Pierce’s private contact? I need it urgently.]

Declan replied instantly: [?]

Declan: [Who stole Tanya Sinclair’s phone? Put it back.]
