CHAPTER 386: CHAPTER 386: VICTOR GRANT WAKES UP

The big cold storage room now only had May Morgan and Jacob Jennings left. Jacob felt somewhat ashamed while picking up an ice pack beside him, helping May with the cold compress, and gazing at her face writhing in pain, he said sympathetically, ’I’m sorry, if I had known you were in so much agony, I wouldn’t have deceived you to this point...’

Unfortunately, May couldn’t take in any of his apologies. Her whole body was in pain, feeling as if her skin had been peeled off and muscles torn out—a discomfort so severe that it almost deprived her of any senses, leaving only a burning sensation stimulating each of her cells.

It felt like she had been thrown into the hellfire, that kind of pain, etched deep into her bones, unforgettable for a lifetime.

But after the most painful phase, she suddenly felt a refreshing coolness all over her body, her senses gradually recovering.

May grasped Jacob’s hand holding the ice pack tightly, greedily pulling it to her chest. The cold sensation was simply so good, so comforting; she never thought she could feel so comfortable.

Looking at his fingers held tightly by May, Jacob’s heart skipped a beat. He awkwardly tried to pull his fingers back, but the more he tried, the tighter May held them.

’May, it’s me...’ Jacob’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he awkwardly reminded May.

May seemed to hear Jacob’s voice, and only then did she slowly open her eyes to see that she was rubbing his hand against her face, scaring her into sitting up quickly from the hospital bed.

’I-I’m sorry, I thought I was holding a block of ice...’ May hurriedly explained to Jacob.

Jacob looked down at the ice pack in his hand, and smiled complexly: ’I was using the ice pack for you.’

May lowered her head, embarrassed, only to realize she was lying on a hospital bed, and, why was it so cold around her?

’Did something just happen to me?’

May carefully thought about what had happened before. The high temperature temporarily sealed off part of her memory, leaving her unable to recall many things, but at this moment, one name kept circling in her mind.

’I am Matthew Monroe, you will come looking for me sooner or later...’

In her dream, the man dressed in white looked at her with such deep affection, it made May’s heart race.

Matthew Monroe... She had truly heard this name before, and it should have been deeply imprinted in her memory.

’You passed out earlier, your temperature was burning high, and there was no choice. The doctor put you here to cool you down.’

Jacob carefully looked at May, realizing she was out of danger, reached out to test the temperature on her forehead, seeing that it was indeed normal now, he then said to her, ’Since you’re okay now, shall we go outside?’

May, just freed from the flame-like agony, was so greedy for the coolness, this place was filled with chill air, she felt extraordinarily comfortable staying here.

’Can we stay a little longer? I feel quite comfortable here.’ May greedily lay on the bed, not wanting to leave.

Jacob glanced at her, deliberately saying, ’This is a morgue, are you sure you want to stay?’

A morgue?

Damn it...

May turned pale with fright, jumping off the bed in a hurry, cursing the unscrupulous doctors who dared to leave a living person like her in the morgue unattended while pulling Jacob to leave quickly.

Jacob didn’t dare to tell her that at that time her temperature was terrifyingly high, the doctors were also at wits end, fearing she’d get burnt out, thus moved her to the morgue for cooling, and all of this was done with his approval.

After leaving the cold storage, May’s memory somewhat recovered, she suddenly remembered the still unconscious Victor Grant, quickly asking Jacob, ’How is Victor Grant? What happened to him?’

Jacob was busy caring for May, with no time for Victor’s matters: ’I don’t know, maybe he’s still unconscious?’

May knew the hatred between him and Victor, hence stopped inquiring, then turned to rush towards Victor’s ward.

As soon as she reached the doorway, she heard Victor’s angry voice from inside, ’Get the hell out, do you really need to serve me?’

Then came the sound of things being smashed to the floor and the frightened screams of nurses.

Upon hearing, May knew Victor had awoken, how could his temper always be so aggressive, even severely injured he wasn’t being honest?

May hurriedly pushed open the ward door and entered. Victor was about to lose his temper at those nurses again when he suddenly saw May had arrived, his anger immediately dissipated as if nothing had happened.

’You, you didn’t leave?’ Victor asked, surprised, looking at May’s face.

When he opened his eyes not seeing May, he thought she had run away while he was injured, that she didn’t want him anymore, hence bottled up a bellyful of anger and lashed out at the innocent nurses.

May glared at him, first apologizing embarrassingly to the nurses, waiting until the room was tidied up, then walked to Victor, pulling a chair to sit down.

’Did I say I would leave? What’s in your head?’ May rolled her eyes at him, couldn’t resist scolding him.

Seeing May beside him, Victor felt at ease, he smiled embarrassedly, gazing eagerly at her, saying, ’I was being petty, please don’t be mad at me, will you?’

May didn’t plan to genuinely get angry with him, since during the life-and-death moment, he protected her, and if it weren’t for her, maybe he wouldn’t have gotten injured.

’I’m not mad at you, I just went out for a bit.’ May glanced at her right hand, thought it over, and decided not to tell Victor what had just happened.

’By the way, when you were unconscious, I didn’t dare call your parents, afraid they couldn’t take it. Should I call them now?’ May thought Victor was injured, not calling Heather Holt and others seemed unjustifiable, besides, the wedding was set for three days later, he surely couldn’t hide it.

’Don’t call, I’ll call later, I’ll explain to them.’ Victor, afraid the parents might blame May, quickly grabbed May’s hand to signal.

But his movement was large, accidentally pulled at his wound, pain turned his face pale, beads of sweat instantly formed.

May was terrified, quickly got up to help him lie back to rest, ’Don’t move, your wound is so severe, pulling at it would be troublesome!’

Victor lay contentedly on the bed, eagerly watching May, suddenly flashed a mischievous smile: ’May, I want to go to the restroom.’

Hmm?

May glared at him suspiciously, pretended to leave: ’Then I’ll call a nurse for you.’

’No, I don’t want them touching me, can you help me?’ Victor shamelessly held May’s hand, said without bashfulness.

If he weren’t injured, May felt just for saying this, she could slap him dead.
