CHAPTER 446: CHAPTER 446: HERMIT

Staring at the bowl of hot water before him, Vincent Vance felt an immense turmoil in his heart. There was no doubt that the Dragon Insect power inside May Morgan had indeed been activated. When that red dragon appeared in the sky earlier, it must have been a sign of the Dragon Insect power awakening.

But with such boiling blood coursing through May’s body, would it cause her fatal harm?

Looking at May’s pale, unconscious face, Vincent instinctively picked up his phone again and questioned Jacob Jennings, "Is there any way to remove the Dragon Insect from May’s body?"

Jacob hesitated for a moment before speaking in a low voice to Vincent, "Young Master, I heard from that Hermit that once the Dragon Insect power awakens, the person is... not far from death!"

What?

Vincent was struck by this terrible news, his mind going blank.

May would die?

How could she die? He wouldn’t let her die!

"Jacob, how’s the task I asked you to handle going?"

After calming down slightly, Vincent suddenly gripped his phone and questioned Jacob on the other end of the line.

Jacob had taken care of the matters for Vincent, but with May in her current state, was there any point in searching for Mount Caelus?

"Young Master, I think what you need is to stay calm. With May like this already, further distress would be futile. We might as well..."

"Are you asking me to watch her die with my eyes wide open?"

Heartache clearly written on his face, Vincent held May tightly and decisively ordered Jacob, "Handle it. Follow our original plan, do whatever is necessary. I’ll call for the plane to be prepared right away. We’ll reach Crestwood in no more than four hours. Be ready to meet us."

"Alright..."

Hearing Vincent’s unwavering tone on the phone, Jacob knew there was no room for negotiation. Vincent had sacrificed so much for May, there was no way he would just stand by and watch her die. Even if there was just a slim chance of hope at Mount Caelus, Vincent would go all out to save May’s life.

With that mindset, Jacob decided that rather than persuade him to give up, it would be better to accompany him on this journey. After all, to watch May die helplessly was something he couldn’t bear either.

After discussing with Jacob, Vincent decisively phoned his subordinates, instructing them to prepare his private jet as quickly as possible. He then had a vehicle brought over, personally carrying May aboard the car, heading straight to the airport.

Upon reaching the airfield, Vincent’s private jet was just ready. However, due to the late hour, there was a certain degree of risk and obstacles associated with taking off that the airport staff advised Vincent to carefully consider, suggesting it would be best to set off early the next morning.

Worried that May could die at any moment, Vincent insisted on taking off, and reluctantly, the pilot had to depart at night, heading straight for Crestwood.

Three hours later, at precisely one o’clock at midnight, Vincent disembarked the plane, holding May. As soon as he stepped off the plane, Jacob, who had been waiting at Crestwood Airport for quite a while, hurried over.

Beside him, there was an elder dressed in simple garb. The elder was lean but muscular, with a healthy, ruddy complexion. His eagle-like eyes were sharp and bright, giving him an air of wisdom.

"Young Master, we’ve been waiting for you for a long time!"

As Jacob greeted Vincent, he glanced at the unconscious May in his arms, then quickly turned to the elder and said, "Mr. Drake, please check if May has activated the Dragon Insect power."

Vincent cautiously regarded the elder, not immediately presenting the unconscious May to him.

Seeing Vincent’s hesitation, Jacob promptly explained, "Young Master, this is the Hermit I mentioned earlier. He can help remove the Dragon Insect power from May’s body."

Upon hearing this, the elder replied solemnly to Vincent and Jacob, "Mr. Jennings has overstated it. While I possess some capabilities, I’m not as miraculous as you claim. The Dragon Insect is a Saint among the Spirit Insects, not something a mortal like me can easily dispel. If this lady is indeed afflicted by a Dragon Insect, all I can do is alleviate her symptoms and perhaps extend her life a little."

Hearing this, Vincent’s wary expression relaxed slightly. After the incident with Mr. Landry, he had been skeptical of sudden miraculous figures, remaining cautious at every turn. However, this person’s words and demeanor seemed to fit the Hermit’s description; maybe, just maybe, he could trust him this time.

Vincent subtly nodded at Jacob, indicating he was willing. Noticing this, Jacob approached Mr. Drake and whispered, "Mr. Drake, please don’t be offended. Our Young Master loves our young lady dearly and can’t afford any mishaps."

The elderly gentleman stroked his beard and glanced meaningfully at Vincent and the woman in his arms, addressing Jacob, "It’s fine. Men as deeply affectionate as Young Master Vance are indeed rare in this world."

Having said that, he approached Vincent again, lowered his gaze upon May’s complexion, and hesitantly reached out to touch May’s forehead. Yet, wary of displeasing Vincent, he first sought his approval, "Young Master Vance, may I touch Miss Morgan?"

Vincent hesitated, exchanged a look with Jacob, and then nodded in agreement, "You may, but be careful. She’s very weak right now."

"I understand..."

Mr. Drake nodded and placed his hand gently on May’s forehead, checking her pulse at her neck, before confirming to Vincent, "That’s definitely it. I can now ascertain that Miss Morgan’s Dragon Insect power has indeed been activated."

Vincent clenched his fingers and stubbornly asked, "How do you determine that her Dragon Insect power has been activated?"

Mr. Drake glanced up at Vincent and asked in return, "Is it that Young Master Vance doesn’t trust my abilities, or are you deceiving yourself?"

Vincent’s expression darkened. After a long pause, he quietly asked, "Then, Mr. Drake, is there a better way to alleviate the backlash of the Dragon Insect power within May?"

"Yes!" Mr. Drake smiled faintly, and his bright eyes gleamed especially brightly under the moonlight, "Before you arrived, Mr. Jennings had already informed me about the Dragon Insect. I’ve also personally gathered some herbs in the mountains. If Young Master Vance trusts me, please follow me!"

Having said that, he stepped aside, signaling for Vincent to follow him. Vincent cast another look at Mr. Drake, then glanced down at the feverish May in his arms. Finally, gritting his teeth, he told Jacob, "Jacob, drive us there."

"Yes!" Finally receiving Vincent’s nod, Jacob dared not delay. He quickly brought the car around from the garage, driving with Vincent and company toward a remote mountain village in Crestwood.
