CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: HE WAS BORN A KING

May didn’t know how to persuade Vincent since he had brought up the matter himself, so she could only go along with it.

Vincent smiled wryly and whispered in her ear, "Don’t worry, your husband has a backup plan. Even if I’m not fully prepared, the money I have is enough for you to splurge for a lifetime."

"That’s true. It’s just that you’re no longer the CEO of the Vance Group, but you’re not bankrupt. Why should I worry?"

With Vincent’s reassurance, the gloom in May’s heart dissipated. Suddenly recalling the diamond ring Vincent had given her, she joyfully jumped off the sofa and ran to the second floor to retrieve it.

"Maxwell said that this diamond ring, some ’Star something,’ started at fifty million. When you bought it, it must have cost you at least eighty million, right? We could sell it one day and live off it for a lifetime."

Vincent reached over, took the diamond ring from her hand, then gently held her hand and carefully placed the ring on her ring finger. "This is a wedding ring. Unless I die, don’t even think about selling it, okay?"

May gazed at the diamond ring in her hand. It sparkled brilliantly in the sunlight. The ring was beautiful, but the love from the person who gave it to her was even more beautiful.

"Be honest with me, how much did you spend on this diamond ring?"

"Not much. Your husband has plenty of money; it doesn’t matter." Vincent’s lips curled slightly as he held May’s fingers up to his lips and kissed them. Then he vowed to her, "May, from now on, you are my wife. As your husband, I have the responsibility to protect you for a lifetime and give you the best in the world. So remember, even if everyone else in the world abandons you, you will always have me."

May’s nose tingled, and her eyes moistened uncontrollably. "You’re so annoying, making me cry twice now."

Seeing her cry again, Vincent quickly grabbed a tissue and gently wiped away the tears from her eyes, then asked with some concern, "Is it too emotional? I won’t say it again."

"No, that’s not it. It’s just that your words were too moving, made me feel touched."

From the moment her father abandoned her until Vincent rescued her, May felt she lost her life once and was saved once more. The one who abandoned her was her own blood relative, Mason Morgan, but the person who picked her up was a man who should have had nothing to do with her, yet now shared such a close bond with her.

And that man, fortunately, became her husband.

With a big hand, Vincent pulled his beloved woman into his arms, in a great mood as he asked, "Where do you want to go for the honeymoon?"

Travel? May truly hadn’t thought about that, besides, wasn’t he strictly forbidding her from going out?

"Where could I go? Aren’t you afraid I’d be kidnapped if I stepped out? Forget it, I’ll just stay at home with you," May said, thinking about her grim future, not able to help but sigh in depression.

As long as Arthur Vance is alive, she likely won’t have peace in this lifetime. But she was perplexed, was Alexander Vance really that important in Arthur’s eyes? Important enough to disregard his own grandson’s happiness?

"Playing with your husband is for the evening surely, but as for the daytime, we ought to plan well to avoid my wife growing bored. How about accompanying me to make a travel plan?"

"Plan what? Can I even go out? What if I get snatched by your grandfather again?" Just thinking of Arthur made May’s head ache as she couldn’t resist complaining, "I just don’t understand, why is your grandfather so good to your second uncle?"

Speaking of Vincent’s second uncle, Alexander Vance, his expression clearly darkened. "When my second uncle was young, he took a bullet for my father and became a vegetable as a result. My grandfather has always especially doted on his youngest son, so he’s deeply concerned about my uncle’s situation. For years, he’s been doing everything to cure him, hoping he’ll wake up. That’s why he might have resorted to such extreme measures."

Saying this, Vincent unconsciously tightened his hold and spoke heavily to May, "If what Grandpa wanted was Melanie’s life, maybe I wouldn’t care, but he’s after you, and I absolutely won’t allow him to do this."

May undoubtedly believed his words. Ever since Vincent had the courage to defy Arthur to save her, she chose to believe everything he said.

"I understand, I know you’re good to me. I’m just afraid of Grandfather. Now that you have no power or influence, if he wants to take me from you, I feel it would be a piece of cake."

"That’s because you don’t know your husband well enough yet. Just wait, I will make him personally ask me to return to the Vance Group."

Vincent let out a cold chuckle, just about to embrace May upstairs when the bodyguard at the door suddenly walked in and said to Vincent, "Master, Second Master is here."

"Invite him in." Upon hearing this, Vincent turned around and pulled May back to sit on the sofa.

May thought the two brothers must be there to discuss business, so she stood up from the sofa, intending to head upstairs. "Should I head back upstairs?"

"No need, it’s not a big deal, just stay and keep me company." Vincent held May by her small waist and pulled her back onto the sofa.

The bodyguard led Logan Vance inside. May noticed his usually gentle face now had a hint of anger.

"Brother, what do you mean by this?" Logan tossed a stack of documents onto the coffee table in front of Vincent and sternly questioned, "Grandfather didn’t say you had to relinquish power. It was you who didn’t want to do it and wanted a break, so I took over. But since you resigned, you shouldn’t interfere with the Vance Clan’s affairs. What did you have Jacob Jennings tell the collaborators of the Vance Group? Why are they all coming to me for cancellations?"

Vincent intentionally cast a glance at the documents Logan threw over, then asked with a smile, "You don’t know why? If you don’t, maybe you should go and ask Grandpa because he might."

Logan glared at Vincent with a terribly poor expression, pressing him further, "Why would I ask Grandpa? I’m looking for you, Vincent. You said you wouldn’t meddle in the Vance Group’s business, so why are you privately teaming up with those collaborators to undermine me?"

"Perhaps you haven’t grasped the nature of domestic cooperators yet. They are destined to consider long-term relationships over short-term gains. I assume you have already reached out to those collaborators before coming to see me? How did it go? They aren’t giving you face?"

Vincent raised an eyebrow, self-assuredly glanced at Logan, and seeing him rendered speechless with irritation, he leisurely peeled an orange from the table, feeding it to May’s small mouth. Seeing this, May awkwardly glared at him, and reached out to take the orange from his hand to eat by herself.
