CHAPTER 59: CHAPTER 59: SHOWDOWN

"I built these relationships, forged these connections. Although the Vance Group is still primarily owned by my grandfather, the entire operation revolves around me. If I say someone is capable, they are; if I say they aren’t, then they aren’t!"

"Don’t be so arrogant. I don’t believe that if I offer them a profit margin one point higher than yours, they won’t work with me."

Logan Vance had been secretly competing with Vincent Vance for control of the Vance Group for years. Now that he finally succeeded, he certainly wasn’t going to hand over his power easily.

Vincent chuckled coldly, placing the last segment of tangerine in May’s hand and provocatively looking at him, "I’ll be watching then. Let’s see how many people will opt for short-sighted gains and work with you, the newly appointed CEO."

Having said that, Vincent lost interest in talking to Logan, stood up, grabbed May’s hand, and started heading upstairs, "Butler, show him out!"

May turned to look at Logan storming in angrily, and storming out again, until she and Vincent were upstairs in the bedroom. She couldn’t help but ask him, "Aren’t you afraid Logan might actually take the Vance Group away?"

"Let him take it then. I’ve exhausted myself for the Vance Family over the years, contributed so much—it’s whatever now."

Vincent lay back on the soft bed and extended his hand towards May. Seeing this, May placed her hand into his palm.

He gently exerted force and pulled her into his arms, holding her close. He suddenly sighed, "In the past, I lived for others. From this moment on, I’m going to live for myself."

May looked at the man beside her, recalling how busy he had been in the past, even reviewing documents while eating. She suddenly felt a sense of relief and encouraged him, "You’re right. We have enough money so why work so hard? Let Logan experience managing work for twenty hours a day; he probably won’t be able to find a wife in the future!"

"Exactly, now you know how pure I used to be. I was too busy to bother looking for a woman."

Upon hearing this, Vincent promptly praised himself.

"Yeah right, others might not have time to find a wife, but you?"

May rolled her eyes with contempt at him.

The Eldest Vance felt particularly wronged. How was he being inappropriate? Teasing his own wife doesn’t mean he’s doing anything improper with other women, does it?

"Since you think I’m so wrong, I won’t bother to clear my name."

Vincent’s face turned serious as he flipped over, pinning the little woman beneath him.

When a new day dawned, May, in good spirits, opened her eyes and turned her head to see the man still sleeping peacefully next to her.

The man she would call her husband from now on.

Since she’d known Vincent, though they’d shared a room, he always got up much earlier, so she rarely had a chance to see him sleeping in the morning.

However, Vincent was retired yesterday, so he could finally indulge in some extra sleep.

Sunlight filtered through the thin curtains, casting dappled light on the large bed and Vincent’s handsome and defined features.

She gazed at his sleeping face in a daze, unable to resist reaching out to touch his prominent nose bridge, then continuing downward to his slightly stubbly chin.

In all honesty, Vincent was undeniably handsome, and the kind of handsome that seemed almost unjustly so.

Looking at this face that was almost drool-worthy, May realized for the first time that she might have the potential to be a "fangirl".

"Drooling at your age? Wipe it off." As soon as Vincent’s eyelids lifted, he saw her foolishly drooling like a silly puppy, unable to resist passing her a tissue to wipe her mouth.

May was stunned for a moment, her face turning red as she quickly buried her head under the covers, "Ugh, you’re the one drooling!"

Vincent smiled and playfully pulled the covers over himself to be face-to-face with May, "Be honest, did you just realize you’ve hit the jackpot?"

A playful fist swung at him, and May grumbled, "Hit the jackpot my foot, clearly I’m the one who lost out, okay?"

"You lost out? How did you lose out?" Vincent asked, pulling May’s slender waist and drawing her into his embrace.

All day long, May and Vincent, apart from going downstairs for lunch, practically spent the entire day in the bedroom. When boredom set in, they lay in bed flipping through travel guides on a laptop, discussing travel plans. May wanted to visit many places, but in the end, she decided to go see her grandmother.

For one, her grandmother was old and living alone in the countryside, and May worried about her health. Secondly, it was about the Jade Pendant—she wanted to ask her grandmother about the Dragon Insect said to reside in the pendant and whether her father’s claims about its ability to cure ailments were true.

If it was just a rumor or if Mason Morgan lied to save Melanie, then letting grandma clarify could ensure Arthur wouldn’t pursue this matter anymore, granting May complete freedom.

Since May had already decided where she wanted to go, Vincent didn’t object and simply smiled, telling her he could arrange anything for their travels.

Once their travel plans were settled, Vincent called Jacob Jennings to come over.

Half an hour later, Jacob arrived. Vincent went alone to the study to talk with him for a long time. Meanwhile, May, feeling bored while waiting outside, went to check out the downstairs kitchen.

Seeing the kitchen staff preparing dinner, she impulsively offered, "Can I help?"

The servant looked up at her with a smile, deliberately asking, "Is the Young Madam planning to cook a dish for the Eldest Master Vance?"
