CHAPTER 73: CHAPTER 73: SOMEONE ACTUALLY TURNED THEMSELVES IN

"Monica, it’s not what you think. I have something important to see him about. Please find some time to visit him at the hospital and tell him I want to see him. If he agrees, give me a call."

Monica Lambert saw that May Morgan was determined, so she hesitated for a moment, then nodded, "Alright, but you should tell Vincent Vance. You two are married now; it’s better to clear things up to avoid misunderstandings in the future, you know?"

"I know, I’ll tell him."

May didn’t plan to tell Vincent. Firstly, he’s too sensitive. Secondly, he’s been especially busy lately. She just needed to meet Adam Owens, quietly go, and quietly return.

After hanging up Monica Lambert’s call, May opened the bedroom door and just caught sight of Vincent Vance and Jacob Jennings emerging from the study.

Jacob Jennings was holding a large stack of documents. It was clear he was busy. Vincent personally escorted him to the door and gave some careful instructions before returning.

"I will be very busy in the next few days, might even go on a business trip. But I’ll assign extra security to watch over Zenith Villa. Remember, don’t go out, okay?"

Vincent came to May’s side, earnestly instructing her.

Upon hearing this, May quickly nodded obediently, pretending to be compliant, looked at him, and agreed, "Don’t worry, I won’t go out unnecessarily."

Vincent smiled with satisfaction, reached out to smooth her hair, and then turned and went back to the study to work.

He was so busy this time that he didn’t even have time to eat dinner.

During dinner, May sat at the dining table waiting for him for a long time, but that closed door never opened.

After a while, when the servant went for the last time to call Vincent down for dinner and failed, they had no choice but to tell May, "Madam, the master asked me to tell you that he is busy with something very important and said you don’t need to wait for him."

May sighed helplessly, picked up her bowl, and started eating. She didn’t know if it was that she had gotten used to eating with Vincent or if she was too worried about his health; she ate only a few bites before losing her appetite and simply put down her chopsticks to go to the kitchen.

"What does the master usually like to eat?" May looked at the neatly arranged ingredients in the kitchen and asked the servant.

The servant quickly replied, "The master doesn’t have anything he especially likes, but perhaps... He’s a little more interested in tangyuan."

"That’s great. I can’t make much else, but I should handle tangyuan," May said excitedly, rolling up her sleeves to cook tangyuan for Vincent.

The servant remembered the joke from last time when she cooked scrambled eggs and tomatoes and kindly advised, "Madam, just leave such rough work to us. Once the tangyuan is ready, you can take it up to the master."

May scratched her head, thinking this seemed somewhat insincere. She thought, "It’s just tangyuan. It’s as simple as boiling it in water. If I can’t even do this, I might as well give up on cooking altogether."

"It’s alright. I’ll do it myself, so the master eats more." May insisted, taking a pot and starting to busy herself in the kitchen.

The servant, watching her bang around the kitchen with pots and pans, couldn’t help but think sarcastically, "It’s Amitabha if the master doesn’t get a stomachache from your tangyuan."

What was thought to be a simple task turned out quite complex. When the pot of tangyuan was done, they were either broken or disintegrated, and when fished out, it looked unappealing.

May looked at the failed product in the bowl embarrassedly, then glanced shyly at the servant and asked, "Does your master like black sesame paste?"

The servant’s mouth twitched, looking at the large bowl of black stuff in May’s hands, and sighed, "Madam, with all due respect, you’re just not cut out for cooking."

Unable to watch any longer, the servant finally pushed May out to wait outside, then cooked another pot of tangyuan and brought it out.

May carried the servant’s well-cooked tangyuan and knocked on Vincent’s door. After about a minute, a tired voice from inside said, "Come in."

May entered with the tangyuan. Seeing her, Vincent got up quickly from his chair, "Why did you come in? Have you eaten?"

"I have. I brought you some tangyuan," May said, picking up a spoon and offering a tangyuan to Vincent, indicating he should eat, "The servant said you like tangyuan, so I had some made for you. Eat a little before you continue working."

Vincent smiled slightly, feeling content as he opened his mouth to eat the one she offered. Just as he was about to speak, his phone suddenly rang.

He grabbed the phone to check it. May glanced at it too, noticing the caller was Director Lawson, and quickly perked up her ears to listen carefully.

However, Vincent’s phone had anti-eavesdropping technology, and all she could hear was Vincent saying "Hmm" a few times; she couldn’t make out a word of what Director Lawson was saying.

Finally, when Vincent hung up, May quickly asked, "How is it? Is there any progress with my grandmother’s case?"

Before Vincent could answer, she hurriedly continued, "Did Director Lawson question my sister? Did she confess?"

Vincent gave May a deep look, then suddenly sighed and shook his head, "No."

"No? Why not?" May’s heart sank suddenly, sensing that it wasn’t as simple as she thought.

"Director Lawson just called me. Someone has already come forward to surrender, a woman, but it’s not your sister. Moreover, the basic characteristics of this person align with the evidence Director Lawson and his team have. She openly confessed to killing your grandmother, saying it was out of greed, accidentally killing her."

"What? How is that possible?"

May’s mind went blank, instinctively feeling something was off. Everything seemed wrong, but she was so confused she couldn’t figure out what was wrong at the moment.

What was the real intent of the woman who suddenly decided to turn herself in, confessing even to murder?

"I feel something’s off too. I’ve asked Director Lawson’s people to verify her hair DNA. There should be results soon."

Vincent sighed lightly before standing up from the chair, gently patting May’s face to comfort her, "Don’t overthink it. You have to believe that there’s a higher power watching over. Those who really harmed your grandmother will eventually be punished."

Despite Vincent’s reassurance, May didn’t feel convinced. She didn’t want to think the worst of people, but in reality, human nature could indeed be more sinister than one could imagine.

"I still need to go to Crestwood and personally interrogate that female criminal. I don’t believe she could do that to my grandmother on her own. Greed? My grandmother was tortured to death, it was so horrible! How can it be just left at that?"
