Zombie Apocalypse: Creation
Chapter 671: Failure or Success?
CHAPTER 671: FAILURE OR SUCCESS?
"Just figure I should be more direct with the audience... Hopefully it works, or else I really have no other options."
"It’s going to work, Governor... You know, a lot of people admire you from that whole speech on TV you just gave?"
Shen Wen replied, confusing Xiaoyun as he couldn’t think of a reason anyone would admire him.
In fact, he thought of the opposite. His mind was starting to feel a little embrassed as he thought back to all the words he used.
"Admire me for what? Who’s admiring me?" Xiaoyun curiously asked.
"All the single and middle-aged women. And all the young men in the town... Even my daughter called me just a few minutes earlier to get an autograph from you."
"Really? It’s not the opposite?"
"Yeah, I’m being dead serious... Here’s a pen and her favorite notebook. Do you mind putting your signature on it?"
As Shen Wen handed him a pink notebook with the name Shen Qi in the front, Xiaoyun thought about it for a second before signing it.
"There... I’m going to go home now unless there’s something else here that needs me to attend to."
"Nope."
---
As Xiaoyun began driving home in his car, the radio surprisingly had words coming out rather than the usual dead silence.
He could immediately recognize the voices, as the same intro music from the Midnight Current started playing.
Soon, it was followed up by Liang Han’s voice and Xiaoyun’s own voice. It was clear that the whole talk show was now being played on the radio.
"He didn’t even tell me he’s going to play this on the radio... Wait a moment, we never gave anyone broadcasting rights for radio."
Just as Xiaoyun was about to take out his phone, it started ringing as Shen Wen’s name popped up.
"Hello?"
"Governor, do you have a radio with you?"
"Yeah, I’m hearing it right now... Shen Wen, you really gave me a surprise, you know that?" Xiaoyun questioned, his voice with a hint of anger.
"Hehe, my workers just happened to get the radio working a few minutes ago. We thought it would be a perfect time to replay it."
"You do know that you’re supposed to ask for radio licensing from the government before you can start your radio broadcasting, right?"
The other side fell into complete silence as if Shen Wen didn’t expect Xiaoyun to bring this up at this very moment.
"Relax. I’m not going to fine you because of it... But make sure you send a proper request form to the Publicity Department that manages media."
"Will do, sir."
As Xiaoyun hung up the phone, he felt an overwhelming embrassment as he listened to his own voice over the radio.
His mind just realized how arrogant he sounded. The word he used on the spot felt so domineeringly naive.
It almost felt like someone doing a high school speech and trying to impress their friends by acting as edgy and cool as possible.
"Oh my fucking god, what the fuck was I thinking when I went on that stage?" Xiaoyun murmured as a feeling of regret brewed inside his mind.
There wasn’t anything wrong with the meaning of the speech itself, but the way it was phrased felt like something out of a Domineering CEO novel.
"Ah fuck! This is too damn embarrassing. Fuck fuck fuck. There’s no way I said this out loud."
Turning off the radio, Xiaoyun quickly grabbed a CD from the glovebox before putting on some music for himself.
---
"Today I saw snow drifting through the cold night.
With the cold, my heart and mind drift off to faraway places.
Trying to catch up in the wind and rain.
In the fog you can’t tell the shadows apart.
Vast sky wide ocean, you and I.
Who would change?"
---
"Honey! Welcome back!"
As Leyan opened the garage door for him, Xiaoyun was a little surprised to see her still awake past midnight.
"You don’t have to wait for me this late into the night," Xiaoyun replied as he exited his car before closing the garage door.
"I’m just too worried to fall asleep... Muah! What took you so long? Did Shen Wen ask you to stay behind or something?"
Seeing her kissing him out of the blue, Xiaoyun felt something was off. But he didn’t question it as they headed towards the living room together.
"Yeah. Just a short question with him... Did you all watch the TV?"
"Of course we did. We watched the whole thing. From beginning to the end... Honey, you look so great in this suit."
"Um, thanks?"
As Xiaoyun awkwardly scratched his head in confusion from the sudden compliment, Leyan suddenly leaned all the way up to his left ear.
"Honey... You know how happy we were when we saw you say that out loud? Everyone was so happy you didn’t shy away from it."
"Really... I felt a little embrassed when I listened to it over the radio." Xiaoyun murmured as the bad memories still haunted him.
"Embrassed? For what?" Leyan questioned, her eyes looking a little confused towards Xiaoyun as she moved back a little.
"It just sounded so... edgy. There’s no other way to put it. It just sounded straight out of some angry youth who has nothing but empty words."
As Xiaoyun said out his reasoning, Leyan suddenly started chuckling a little.
"What are you laughing at? I’m being serious... I didn’t realize how naive I sounded until I actually said it out loud."
"Honey. Did you forget what everyone thinks of you? If you gave a long, boring speech, everyone would find it weird."
"Why?"
"Did you forget to look at yourself in the mirror? Here. Tell me what kind of speech a young person like you should give?"
Looking towards the handheld mirror, Xiaoyun fell into silence. His mind started to realize why Shen Wen said young people would like his speech.
The straightforward, brutal answer was what everyone expected out of him. Not some sophisticated words that an old politician would use in a scandal.
But there’s still one thing he couldn’t get. One audience group that still eluded him with actual, valid reasoning.
"Leyan, did all of you really, really like the speech? What makes you all like the speech?" Xiaoyun curiously asked.
"Who doesn’t love their husband who’s willing ot go on TV and confess their love in front of everyone?"
"What if... Let’s just say you’re a single woman, would you still like it?"
Xiaoyun’s sudden scenario confused Leyan a little, but she didn’t question it as she still gave him an answer.
"I would have liked it... You know how manly you looked when you stood up and stared right into the camera?"
Leyan paused for a second as her hand slowly reached down to his thighs.
"Every woman in the town is jealous... I bet they are more than willing to allow their husband to be polyamorous if they are like you."
"Like me?"
"Yes, like you. All of this could have been avoided if you had just hidden us from the public and kept the relationship in the shadows.
But you chose to bring our relationship to light rather than having us as secret lovers. No woman can resist a man who’s willing to defend them until they die."
"Huh... I see."
As Xiaoyun’s head finally got around the reasoning behind the attraction towards the female audience, he felt something soft touching his crotch.
"Honey... I’m really turned on right now. You don’t mind me taking a little snack with you in this suit, right?"
"Babe, can we just go to sleep? I-I still have work tomorrow, and I’m kind of tired right now."
Despite Xiaoyun trying to push her hands away, it only backfired as she sat directly on top of his lap.
"C’mon. I really want to do it right now... You said you’re going to defend our happiness until the day you die, right?"
"I never even said that——"
Before Xiaoyun could finish arguing back, he took in a cold breath as her hand reached all the way down to his crotch.
"Honey... You’re fully erected already. Just let me have it. It’s going to be a short one, and that’s it."
After a short consideration in his head, Xiaoyun finally gave in as he leaned back onto the sofa.
"Fine, but make it quick."
Just as Xiaoyun closed his eyes, waiting for her to unzip his pants, he suddenly felt a warm pair of hand covering his eyes.
"What the——"
"Shhhh, you don’t want to wake up the kids. They could hear us from their bedroom if we are too loud."
Hearing Yuqi’s voice from behind, Xiaoyun’s mind quickly realized she had been behind the sofa the whole time.
"I thought you went to sleep."
"What makes you think that?"
With Yueyue’s voice coming out next, Xiaoyun let out a sigh inside his head as it had become clear none of them were asleep.
