CHAPTER 252: CHAPTER 252: PAST LIFE -2

"Then... they found a method to make their precious daughter gain a superpower." Ivy chuckled as if she were laughing at her foolish self. "They lured me to an abandoned factory and dug out my superpower crystal."

"What?" Victor’s ears were ringing, and he exchanged a worried glance with Helena.

"I should have died... I should have. But I survived because Silas used his life force to heal me. He still hasn’t awakened his second superpower, which is healing, but he will pretty soon, because the second power rain will happen in the next 2 months." Ivy’s voice was nonchalant.

"Ivy, you..." Felix began nervously, but Silas calmly stated,

"Ivy has predicted some of the incidents for my family, and all of them became true."

A deafening silence engulfed the entire place.

"Anyways... he died." Ivy laughed, but tears started to pour from her eyes. A familiar heartache spread across her chest, making her feel dizzy.

Silas immediately stood up, walked up to her seat, and wrapped his arms around Ivy. He was trying to silently support her and let her know that he was there.

"I am here. Calm down. Calm down." His soothing voice helped Ivy relax. She inhaled a deep breath and looked at her parents and siblings.

"Even though he healed me... I lost my sight... and my will too. It was his friends who took care of me. They protected me for a long time before they too eventually died in a zombie horde.

"I thought that was the end, but it turned out not to be. I found my best friends, and they protected me. You might think, Why didn’t I die? Right? Because Henry... Silas’s friend said that... I should continue to live... because it was the last gift from Silas to me. I can’t be selfish. So I lived. In between... I kept on feeling... as if I was going to awaken a new power. And during one of the fights, when I was teleported by someone, I did trigger a superpower."

At that point, she paused, her gaze swept past everyone, and she asked with tears clinging to her eyelashes,

"Don’t you feel the atmosphere of the room has dropped? Haven’t you noticed that even with the heat waves slipping inside... the room temperature is comfortable and even slightly cold?"

Her question made the Nightbanes stunned, while Silas’s eyes turned deep.

"Indeed... I thought it was my own illusion, but now that Ivy has pointed out..." Felix murmured while rubbing his hands, as the slight, gentle breeze grazed past him.

"Ivy... you mean... you have awakened an ice superpower?" Ember asked cautiously, her eyes filled with worry.

At that moment, she only felt heartache for her little sister, who had suffered so much.

"No." Ivy shook her head. "I had awakened a rather different kind of superpower. Safe Zone superpower. With it... No zombie can sense my presence, and I can even use my power to create a barrier around others, making sure that their presence is hidden too. Not only that... even the temperature or any kind of natural disaster is ineffective against me, as long as I create a barrier around myself or someone else."

Everyone was speechless.

The revelation was too much to absorb at once. A Safe Zone superpower? Such an ability was unheard of, something that could defy both nature and the infected alike.

Kael’s brows furrowed deeply. "That kind of power... it doesn’t exist in any record," he muttered.

"You’re saying you can make an area completely undetectable to zombies and the environment itself?"

Ivy nodded softly. "Yes. It’s like... an invisible domain. Within it, everything feels peaceful and untouched, almost like time slows down. But..." her voice faltered, "it’s not infinite. I need to level up. For now, I can only protect an area of around 10,000 sq meters."

"Holy shit! 10,000 square meters... that’s a lot!" Felix murmured in disbelief.

It was almost the size of the base they were living in. That meant... if Ivy wanted, she could create a barrier so no one would have to worry about extreme heat.

But Kael thought even further ahead.

"A superpower that can hide its presence... it is something every base will try to have its hands on."

"And it might become even more useful... in case the world is plagued by a natural disaster." Victor continued grimly, his expression darkening as the implications sank in.

"If other survivors find out about this, they’ll stop at nothing to capture or control you, Ivy."

"But that’s what had happened." Ivy smiled, her eyes were filled with sorrow, and she stared at them with a deep gaze. "They captured me. And somehow I ended up in a base called Talon. I was forced to activate my power 24/7... to the point that slowly I started to become skin and bone."

"Did... did they... try to... take out the crystal from your head?" Silas asked as dread started to rise in his heart.

Ivy laughed as if she had heard a joke. "They did. Oh my god... do you know how disappointed they were when they found nothing? Haha! I didn’t have a superpower crystal for my safe zone power at all! They were furious and even cut my stomach, legs, back, and chest to find the crystal."

Helena’s face turned pale, and Victor’s fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white. Even Felix’s usual lightheartedness disappeared, replaced by sheer horror.

"How could they..." Helena’s voice broke. She pressed a trembling hand to her mouth, unable to finish.

"They were desperate," Ivy continued, her tone flat, as though the pain had long since burned itself out. "So they started to experiment and tried to cut off my eyeballs, thinking that the crystals were hidden inside them."

"Stop! Stop! Stop!" Ember broke down sobbing; she couldn’t hear the torture Ivy had gone through.

Her heart ached while nausea started to rise.

’Why... why did my sister go through so much? And why weren’t we there for her?’
