Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower
Chapter 254: Biased
CHAPTER 254: CHAPTER 254: BIASED
Helena couldn’t believe that the daughter she had acknowledged just a few days before had already gone through so much. Through many scars... so much pain...
’If it weren’t for them... if it weren’t for them... my baby wouldn’t have suffered so much.’
The hatred in her heart surged, while burning emotions pulsing under her skin brought her back to her senses.
Ivy’s sobbing sounded like a knife being plunged into her chest.
She wanted to scream and let Ivy peek into her heart to let her know... the depth of her love and how her youngest daughter was her favorite of all.
Yes, Helena was biased and knew she had influenced her other children, too.
Otherwise, no normal siblings would have held back the complaints bubbling in their minds if they had ever experienced the situation Ivy was recounting.
However... it was this exact biasness that always maintained love between siblings, and no one ever dared to take Ivy’s place.
She wanted to make sure that when her youngest daughter was acknowledged, everyone would pamper her.
But who would have thought... even before they got the chance to pamper her... she had incurred so many scars?
Though she doesn’t remember the lifetime Ivy was recounting... she believed it was true because of Ivy’s unique identity.
Her pleading gaze crashed into Victor’s. She needed him to become the words formed at the tip of her tongue, but they couldn’t be formed due to the agony.
Victor, who had remained silent till now, said softly in his deep voice laced with faint regret, "Because we are family, Ivy."
Ivy blinked while Silas’s gentle, soothing hand caressed her.
"We are family, Ivy. We heal. We fight for each other and not against each other."
Ivy gazed at Victor with moistened eyes, an ugly smile forming at her lips. "But Kael wasn’t the only one who died, Father. Later, Ember became a half zombie protecting me, and Jay died while making the cure..."
"Jay?" Ember was startled when she heard Jay’s name from Ivy’s mouth.
"Hm... Jay... he had followed you and often dropped by our temporary hideout. He was about to propose before you transformed into a half zombie. At least till I turned 26... he pursued you. Later on, when you became a half zombie, he engaged in some kind of project; he never told us what it was... but he assured us that he would only marry you." Ivy gave a guilty smile to Ember.
Ember was shocked to the core.
Was Jay so dedicated to her? Did he love her so much?
Joy and guilt surged in her heart like tidal waves.
Feeling tired, Ivy’s gaze slowly landed on Felix. "After Ember turned into a zombie, you trained me. Not out of anger... but out of fear... fear that I won’t survive once you all leave me. Two years later... You too died, Felix."
She paused; her voice was trembling while she stared at the table with guilt.
"An antidote had been formed for half zombies. You and your mother had gone to the base to get the antidote, but instead of your return... we only got people sent to our hideout, and from them I got to know that you both..."
Wiping away the tears and taking a long pause, Ivy continued, "To protect me, Father hid me far away and died to distract those Talon base people... or maybe... someone else. I never knew till the end whether those people truly belonged to Talon Base... because... I always knew that two groups were chasing me... but I never knew the identity of the second base."
Toward the Ivy sounded a little lost.
Helena’s and Victor’s gazes hardened, and they exchanged a glance, but in the end, they decided to remain silent.
A long silence ensued before suddenly Silas scooped Ivy from her chair and sat in her seat instead. Placing the dumbfounded Ivy on his lap, he hugged her and soothed,
"You aren’t at fault, Ivy. You will never be. Because in every decision, there are always two parties involved; by stating the risk of being near you, you have fulfilled your part, and now whether they stay or leave is up to them. And just so you know... I will never leave you."
Tears welled up in Ivy’s eyes, and she hugged Silas as if he were her last anchor. 4
Silas softly caressed Ivy’s back and whispered,
"My love, don’t cry. I am a morally bankrupt person, and for the tears that escape your eyes, I will make all those criminals cry blood tears tenfold. Trust me, my love, in this life, all those people... will cry from joy when they die. Because death itself will become a luxury to them."
Ivy froze, but her heart, thudding with guilt, started to pound for no reason. Well, apparently... it indeed had a reason... and that was because of a man named Silas.
His warm hug and his obsessive words should have made Ivy scared or worse... but she... she felt secure and safe.
A hot, scalding kiss landed on her ears as he whispered,
"In your previous life, I died early, Ivy. But in this one, I will die alongside you, and our children at the age of 60 will be the ones seeing us off by then."
Thud! Thud!
Heat rushed to Ivy’s cheeks, and by now her tear glands had stopped producing because of the words Silas was saying.
It wasn’t romantic... yet... they kind of felt... safe and secure.
He was painting a future Ivy desperately craved but never imagined building. It was tempting and intoxicating.
"You b*stard! What do you mean? She is my sister! Of course, I will stay!" Felix’s loud voice broke the romantic atmosphere, and the smell of gunpowder started to spread in the air.
"I will stay too." Kael’s calm and steady voice cut through the air.
"Silas, you are being selfish! It’s a family moment! Give my sister back to me!" Ember rushed up from her chair and scooped Ivy away.
