Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower
Chapter 261: Thoughts
CHAPTER 261: CHAPTER 261: THOUGHTS
At her words, everyone fell silent before Ember tried to brush off the matter: "Let’s not dwell on the past."
"Sister, are you seriously going to beat around the bush? Do you not want to get together with Jay?" Ivy’s eyes flashed with a stern glint; the raw intensity in her eyes almost made Ember admit her defeat.
"I am not... I just..." She drawled, "... I just don’t know how to approach him. He will be furious with me for beating up his mother. What if he insults me... I... I will cry. Not to mention I had said to his mother with a lot of arrogance that I am breaking off the engagement and will not marry her son..."
Hearing her words, Ivy heaved a sigh of relief. From Ember’s words, she could discern that Ember still likes Jay; however because of the unfortunate circumstances, she is hesitating.
"Rest assured, he won’t. In my previous life, he relentlessly pursued you and even forsook his family. What makes you so certain he would spurn you now?" Ivy smirked confidently; she had trust in her brother-in-law.
"I don’t know, Ivy... his mother told us how a woman was ready to pay a dowry of 20 kg of meat, 30 kg of fresh vegetables, and 1000 kg of rice... how the heck could I even accumulate so much before his wedding..." Ember pursed her lips and looked as if she would cry.
Ivy patted her sister’s back, and faint anger rose in her heart. Had that witch really dared to ask for so much? And why does her sister even need to pay a dowry?
"Sister, don’t worry. It’s time that you ride my coattail!" Ivy smirked, "Let’s go and kidnap my brother-in-law!"
"But his mother..." Ember pouted, dissatisfied.
"I have a good plan..." Ivy began, a glint flashing in her eyes.
...............
Sutton Family.
"What the heck have you done, Mother? Why can’t I find Ember?" Jay’s furious voice cut through the empty silence.
Brenda was sitting, applying ice pack on her face; a proud smirk played on her lips and she thought in her mind,
’At least that bitch kept her word and vanished completely! The only regret is... I haven’t beaten her up. But that’s alright. In future if I see her, I will use my influence to teach her a good lesson.’
"Forget about her." Brenda’s indifferent voice rang in the suffocating silence, "She wasn’t worthy of you anyway. I have found a rich woman who is interested in you..."
"Mother!" Jay shouted in fury, "Don’t you dare! I will only marry Ember in this life!"
Brenda’s eyes turned cold, and she stared at Jay with confusion.
"Jay, are you opposing your mother for a broke woman like her? Since when have I ever planned bad things for you? I only want to ensure your happiness, and hence..."
"Hence, you are pushing me toward a stranger I don’t love? Have you forgotten? It was Ember who has been supporting me since my high school years..." Jay began, but Brenda cut him off midway.
"It was a scholarship you achieved with your potential! And don’t forget... if that girl supported you from high school, then I was there before! I worked 3 to 4 jobs just to pay off your tuition fees! I attended all of your school meetings! I hired tutors to make sure that you go to a reputable university..." Brenda’s eyes shimmered with tears.
Her entire life, she always dreamt that one day her son would transform into a rich man and lead her to live a good life.
When he started to pursue Ember, she was against it.
That Ember looked like a troublesome daughter-in-law, but when she understood just how much her son loved Ember and how rich Ember was... her heart wavered, and she even welcomed that bitch.
However, after the arrival of the apocalypse, the Nightbane family’s wealth became worthless, and Ember, the only remaining positive aspect of her life, vanished too!
Her son was a research person, and after the arrival of the apocalypse, she felt that he might not get a good job.
Thank God they had hoarded food; hence, they are able to survive till now.
But this situation might not last long; hence, Brenda was desperate to get her son married.
Since that was the case, she thought it would be better if her son found someone useful for her son.
Someone rich and someone who would be able to pamper her son and her...
But her son... he was wasting his potential on that penniless girl!
Is he truly oblivious to the pain she endured? She toiled tirelessly to nurture him, and now she has merely requested one thing, yet he remains unwilling to grant it!
"That was the thing you wanted, Mother!" Jay shouted, tears pooled in his eyes, "I never wanted to be topper! I wanted to become a painter! But you never let me become one! You kept on pushing your expectation on me. Whenever I thought about giving up, you would remind me of the things you are doing for me... the things I never wanted!"
Ophelia, who was listening to her brother’s speech, lowered her head in shame.
She had seen everything, and yet... she remained silent. Because as long as her brother fulfilled all of her mother’s wishes... Brenda never pressured Ophelia.
Now hearing Jay’s words... she felt suffocated and found it hard to breathe.
Brenda’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Jay, are you seriously blaming me for thinking of your own good?"
Jay closed his eyes.
"Yes. But don’t worry, the moment I met Ember and she fell in love with me... I stopped blaming. Now...I just want to be with her. If you want... after I get married to Ember, I will work and give you the 20 kg of meat, 30 kg of vegetables, and 1000 kg of rice. Just let me get married to Ember!"
"In your dreams!" Brenda shouted.
