Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower
Chapter 347: Scott And Zelda
CHAPTER 347: CHAPTER 347: SCOTT AND ZELDA
Ivy stared at Jenna and wondered how long even celebrities would remain famous.
But the real question is how quickly the apocalypse will end.
’I haven’t even assembled the research team yet.’
Thinking of future plans now is as good as thinking too far ahead.
With that thought, she decided to maintain a calm relationship with Jenna and simply nodded.
Jenna, on the other hand, stared at Ivy before glancing at Kyle.
Kyle understood what she was planning and quickly shook his head, but Jenna played with him using her eyes. Ivy noticed this little interaction and asked her what happened.
Jenna paused, then looked at Ivy with a stiff smile and said,
"Currently, we can’t go out for hunts. Even though Kyle can hunt and collect crystals, it isn’t enough. So... we’re ready to take on any other odd jobs that might be available."
Hearing those words, Ivy frowned slightly and replied, "There aren’t any odd jobs available at the moment. But you can apply for departmental posts."
The odd job in the base referred to cleaning the base road or maintaining the hygiene around the base.
There was also the job of handing out energy drinks to the people in line outside the base, in case any of them faint.
Jenna’s expression darkened as she remembered the incident from a few days ago.
She said, "The department is full of... some very rude people."
Ivy frowned and asked what she meant.
Jenna hesitated, unsure if she should reveal what she had experienced.
Kyle immediately shook his head, but Jenna felt that since Ivy was the representative of the base, she needed to know what was happening in different departments.
So she looked at Ivy and said,
"Just a day before, I went for an interview at the information department. But when I reached the HR office, the position was already filled. The problem was that the job posting only came out that morning, and by 11 a.m., the position was already taken. It felt suspicious, so I asked around. That’s when I heard someone took a bribe and used connections to place their own person in."
Ivy frowned and asked, "Are you telling the truth? Or are you saying this because you didn’t get the job?"
It is common for people to hold grudges just because they don’t get a job. She had seen many such people.
Jenna immediately shook her head and answered sincerely,
"This is what I heard. Maybe the information isn’t completely accurate... but I’m only telling you because there’s no complaint box. And after your speech at the hospital, I felt I should speak up."
Ivy thought for a moment, then nodded and said she would file a complaint and investigate.
However, she added, "If the news turns out to be false, I’ll make sure you have a hard time getting a job in any department. But if it’s true, I’ll personally help you get interviewed again."
Jenna felt flattered. She was confident in her information... after all, she had heard it from insiders. At least that was how she presented it.
She nodded firmly, and Ivy narrowed her eyes. From Jenna’s expression, she felt Jenna wasn’t lying... at least, she believed what she was saying.
To uncover the truth, Ivy decided to rely on her brother-in-law. She returned home and waited for Ember to arrive. Once Ember came back, Ivy asked about Jay.
Ember sighed and said, "Jay is close to finishing his research assessment. He might be recruited into the research team soon."
Ivy tapped her finger and said, "I need someone to judge something."
Ember immediately suggested Felix’s name, and Ivy considered it.
Her second brother rarely appeared with her, so very few knew their relationship.
He also left early every morning and returned late, saying he wanted to become stronger.
This meant he knew fewer people at the base, making him the most suitable person for a covert investigation. So Ivy decided to meet him.
The next day, when she saw Felix, she stopped him. Felix, Helena, Victor, Amber, and Kael had all insisted that Ivy stay with them in the specially made two-floor house... the second floor was built by an earth user, and now they all lived together. Seeing Felix, Ivy told him her plan. Felix readily agreed.
They waited for the right time. Ivy had already instructed Martha to recruit more people since the department’s information gathering was far below standard.
Martha followed Ivy’s command. Soon, a new job posting was made.
When Felix applied, his interview proceeded smoothly, and he was even selected. Ivy frowned at this... it almost seemed like Jenna had lied.
But when she remembered Jenna’s expression, she paused.
’A single successful quota doesn’t prove there’s no corruption. And if someone knows Felix is connected to me...’ Ivy thought for a long while.
Meanwhile, in the information department... an office with two floors, built by an earth user who created rooms on the ground floor, operations continued.
The ground floor handled tasks like gathering information from the internet, while the second floor served as a general office.
There was also a small cafeteria downstairs and a crude lounge upstairs. It wasn’t comparable to pre-apocalypse offices, but it was decent for now.
In that lounge, two people sat far apart. But anyone paying attention would notice they were sitting directly opposite each other.
Their names were Scott and Zelda. Scott looked at Zelda and mouthed a few words.
Zelda mouthed something back. Both of them clearly had experience in reading lips, raising suspicion as to why these two possessed such a skill.
Just as they heard the sound of footsteps, both of them stopped immediately, and Zelda quickly walked out of the lounge.
It was as if they were making sure they wouldn’t be seen together.
Felix, who was heading toward the lounge, saw Zelda leaving and couldn’t help but whistle.
After all, Zelda had shoulder-length brown hair that was perfectly straight, fair skin, and cherry-like lips.
She was a very beautiful woman, and he gave her a quick check-out look before continuing his walk.
